We recently purchased a house through William H Brown in Rainham which turned out to be one of the most complicated purchases I think Britain may have seen on the domestic market. We had some frankly ridiculous hurdles to get over to see the purchase through but alongside our great solicitors & sales agent the team at the Rainham branch working on our purchase were fantastic. They were happy to provide repeat viewings up front and when things started getting complicated kept us in the loop. Marc in particular was an unexpected asset to our experience & most likely a crucial element of why this purchase eventually got over the line. Despite the long & drawn out process Marc was always chasing up our outstanding enquiries for us & going above & beyond to help keep us sane & on track. We put the property up for sale in July 2022 and finally completed the sale last week as our first buyer pulled out. Lorraine was very helpful with securing a number of viewings of the property and Marc the manager gave us sound advice. The only issue was it seemed to take a while for the property to go in the market and the first valuation was a bit high although we were unlucky with the housing market stalling due to interest rates going up.

From the initial valuation Marc Mcilveney presented himself as very professional with a good working knowledge of the local and wider housing market. He gave us good information and advice on the expected value and time span to sell etc . This sale was not easy and quite protracted which was no fault of Marc. It was from our side that all of the problems arose. Marc was very understanding and empathetic to our personal issues doing everything possible to find work arounds and solutions to help us move forward. It’s nasty and unethical to pressure buyers into using an in-house broker, especially when the buyer already has a mortgage offer in place and simply prefers to use their own. It’s clearly just another commission-driven scheme. This happened to me a few months ago. I offered £15k over the asking price, yet my offer was still rejected. I strongly suspect it wasn’t even presented to the seller. The agent delayed responses despite my follow-ups, and it felt like they were just stalling until someone willing to use their in-house broker came along. I’ve since spoken to a few other agents, and all of them confirmed, it’s all about chasing commission from every angle. Based on that experience, I now make it a point to ask upfront about their stance before arranging any viewings. It helps avoid unnecessary stress and ensures a smoother transaction later. I’m not at all surprised reading some of the similar reviews here. Thankfully, I ended up purchasing through a different agent, and the process was straightforward and stress-free
