Will Nash

Will Nash handled the mortgage for our new property in Sutton and was, as always, excellent! Will handled the admin, liasion with the lenders, paperwork and various chasing and running around with urgency and enthusiasm and never let us down, despite a very tough deadline to achieve. Will also handled the other more messy bits that a lot of people don't appreciate - liaising with estate agents, sending emails and making calls etc , all of which he doesn't have to do, but in terms of going the extra mile that's what makes his service that much better than anyone else! We have used Will many times before and he has always been professional, courteous, flexible and offered great advice. An obvious expert in his field I know I can trust Will, and we have always and will continue to go to Will when we are purchasing or re-mortgaging property.

Will Nash

Will Nash helped to arrange my initial mortgage when I was selling with Douglas Allen four years ago. The service he provided was so good that I have returned to him two further times to assist me with remortgaging. Will inspires a very high level of confidence in me that he knows all of the products that are available on the market and can also break down interest rates vs. fees paid so that overall I am getting the best deal. Will always appears very knowledgeable about market trends and I find his advice as to how to consider how interest rates and property prices will change in the future to be very valuable. Will always makes me feel like a valued and remembered customer and takes the time to make sure that I have understood all the aspects of the deal. I fully intend to return to Will the next time I need to remortgage.

Will Nash

We were very grateful for having Will Nash as our mortgage adviser. He handled the documentation incredibly well. He also did more than he even had to do! He went to the limits for us. He helped us choose the right property, even though there were some bumps in this journey, Will Nash helped us through it and it all resulted in a very satisfying outcome! I can't express how much we need to thank him. He deserves to be praised constantly!! We finally have the house we've been dreaming of, this dream was achieved by Will Nash. His decisions really changed our lives! Thank you, Will! Kind regards, Simona&Chris

Will Nash

I have been working with Will Nash since 2010 where he has helped me acquire a mortgage for my first property. I found Will's knowledge in these matters to be second to none, so much so that I have close friends of mine to Will where he has helped them acquire mortgages also. Moreover Will has become my defacto go to person for all matters regarding mortgages. I recently acquired another mortgage through Will Nash's advice and secured a re-mortgage for my father also. Will has a clear and unrivalled knowledge in my opinion and I hope to work with him in the future as well as keep on recommending Will to friends and family who may require a mortgage.

Effective, fast and easy to deal with

Very, honest, open and professional. I went in with a goal and they helped me form the strategy to fulfill on it. At a difficult time to sell we managed to market and sell the house in a relatively short time. It was an up and down process but in the end we had 3 acceptable offers. They were also very human and approachable and easy to deal with. I would recommend them, certainly the Barkingside branch, unreservedly.

A quick note to thank the South Chingford Team at Douglas Allen for their proactive approach to selling our property. We got there in the end!

I used Douglas Allen to buy my first flat and it was no easy ride. The process took over ten months because of various complications with the chain - but Sarah and the Walthamstow team were incredibly helpful throughout. I really felt like Sarah had my best interests at heart and I really appreciate the time and effort she made to make it all happen. I picked up my keys a couple of days ago and think she was almost as happy as I was!

Very bad Experiance do your homework much better around

Very bad experience I did put a review up before actually completion of a sale and have now removed it as now I know I should of waited until everything is done before putting up a review as they will ask before completion. Sale no longer possible through these agents the Chingford branch have really let me down don't believe what they say as they are unwilling to honour verbal contracts and expected me to exchange with an open completion date as buyer could not get there funds on the date to exchange and complete plus the reduction I was offered on fees by glen was now void as the managing director did not approve but legally that is not allowed none or less I choose to not exchange as I was disgusted by the way I was being treated I had to deal with 6 different members of staff over 2 weeks trying to resolve. Have a look around there are much cheaper agents around and better services.

Excellent customer service

A little while ago, we bought our dream property through Douglas Allen, Woodford office. We think that the main reason the review is a 5 star, is because of Gregory Moore, who treats you like his one and only client. Your concerns are his concerns, and he works incredibly hard and has a lot of experience to make things go smoothly and the way that you want. Full of S***! Do NOT Use

Got told that the property was valued at £400k and that the agent had over 300 buyers ready to offer. I was told that the property would have an offer within 2 weeks. I was sceptical but signed a 2 week contract. They arranged a single open house and 17 out of 23 bookings visited. I received no communication other than the fact they wanted to arrange another open house. When I asked for the feedback I was given access to the information that said i had been given feedback already?!?! I chased further but received nothing. I offered to extend my contract if they reduced the fee since their original bravado had not materialised. Instead of discussing the options they stopped talking to me!

JJ · 8 November 2015

Agent replied · 28 October 2024

Dear JJ Thank you for feedback and we are sorry that you feel this way. Pricing property is never an exact science however I understand that an asking price of £400,000 was mutually agreed to test the level of interest. We also agreed to an unusually short sole agency period to give you more flexibility after trying out this price. The open house event was arranged for just four days into marketing and we are pleased to see that so many viewings were booked at such short notice and that this resulted in multiple offers for your consideration. It is an unfortunate fact that some viewers do not attend despite a confirmed viewing and we share your disappointment over this. We are sorry if our online account noted feedback relayed to you if this was not the case. Our staff are passionate and committed to selling property and we are sorry that they were unable to demonstrate this to you on this occasion or to continue marketing for you due to the fee requested. We would like to wish you luck with your future marketing and thank you again for your valuable feedback. Customer Relations - Douglas Allen

10/10 Douglas Allen Barkingside

Worried about selling before I found a property I was convinced by Kailesh to at the very least have a valuation by Douglas Allen. I agreed however was still worried, the branch manager Daniel, showed me how bettering my position would help with my property search. We agreed to a marketing strategy that would last 3weeks and I rested all my hopes in their hands. During these 3 weeks Kailesh constantly kept me up to date with new properties and although I have not found the perfect home yet, I have received an offer on my property 30,000 over the asking price. This allowed me to go back to a previous property that I had loved and was able to secure it. If it wasn't for Kailesh and Daniel I may still be struggling in my old home an all round 10/10 service.

Better late then never.

As a first time buyer I wasn't sure what to expect when purchasing my flat. What I would say is patience is a virtue, I was told it could take up to 3 months for the entire process to go through. In actual fact it took a total of 6 months so double the time I was told at the start. Safe to say I got little anxious as each month passed and I had no clear idea of if when we will exchange. Through all of this I had a great Estate agent who was always available and happy to help. I always got a response from them even if it was not right away and it was always reassuring. I am happy with the service provided and would recommend to any first time buyer.

Not to be believed

When I was with another agent, they called me many times to switch agents. They said that they have many clients looking for a house in my area. They said they can sell my house in 2 weeks. They talked about open house. They were too long in getting the property on the net. The open house was a flop. 1 person out of 5 turned up. No open house after that. My previous agent told me this would happen. I gave them a chance. Wrong choice I think but if they can't sell my house soon I will drop them.

Very glad that I chose Douglas Allen

I would like to give a sincere personal thanks to all the guys at the Epping office for all their hard work in achieving a successful sale. After waiting 9 months from my decision to sell, I decided to approach Douglas Allen as I was impressed by their local proactive marketing. I met with Marc, Senior Branch Manager, and after much discussion, felt that he was not only on the same page as me, but listened, and gave his honest opinion on how to go forward on marketing the property. We agreed that the property, which to be honest, needed much improvement, would be placed on the market at a significantly higher price than other similar properties in the immediate vicinity. Although I did not receive any offers that I would accept in the first 3 months, the persistence of Jonjo, Alison and Charlotte ensured that I achieved the best selling price. This was all done for me in my absence, as I had already moved from England, and, as Alison joked, she spent more time in my house than in hers ! I must mention Tanya, who is responsible on behalf of Douglas Allen for ensuring the final completion, who enabled the final challenging completion with stress less ease. Well done to all at Epping, and I wish you all, well deserved, success in the future.

Very few agents go to the expense of employing people specifically to look after the transaction once a sale is agreed and, as you have found out yourself, they are invaluable in securing as smooth a move as possible.Thank you very much for putting your faith in Douglas Allen, we are delighted to have obliged with such a positive result.Kind regards,Jon Holden - Managing Director, Douglas Allen

Douglas Allen - East Ham.

My home was on the market with another estate agent for many months, who over promised and under delivered. I took my home off the market and eventually approached Douglas Allen. From the very first conversation with the manager Maureen, I noticed how professional their approach was. With the added complication of japanese knotweed I was not convinced they would market my property effectively and secure a sale. Maureen met with me at home and very quickly I felt confident that I was making the right choice in using Douglas Allen. Charlotte Cook conducted the viewings and was excellent and very professional as she marketed my home. Both Maureen and Charlotte had great integrity and and kept me informed at every stage. They found a buyer for my home within 3 months and made a potentially stressful process proceed smoothly. I can't thank them enough and I would not hesitate to recommend this branch.

2nd review - Stephen Ford

What on earth is this guy talking about? My property is not ex local council, so goes to show just how little these estate agents knew when trying to market the house. Having 92 viewings, yet only a handful of offers, shows they are just an epic waste of time. How many of those viewing had mortgages in principle? And how many were with DA's all singing and dancing practice of "we sell and purchase houses but we'd also like you to talk to our cowboy mortgage broker"? The trick of the asking price was although I wanted a minimum value, in order to get people negotiating, DA recommeded a 25k less sum as "offers over" so we could have people to negotiate with. An adiotic ploy. I had no issue with the exclusivity period. But why on earth would a seller sell with an agent that is not on the same page when it comes to the valuation of the property, and was a plonker and called up the other valuers, demonstrating remarkable lack of professionalism? "You then obtained several updated valuations from other agents who all suggested a higher price, however they were agents who had no recent experience of selling properties in the immediate area and were probably not aware of the full extent to which the market had already been tested by us. They would also have been competing for your business in a buoyant market and this can lead to over ambitious estimates" l shall let you guys know once the house is sold by a different agent, so that the valuers whom you wish to cast aspersions of and seem to have an ego against, are proved correct regarding the value of my home, so you and the public will understand that making such a patronising and demonstratively false claim is unacceptable. UPDATE: I sold my house for £60,000 more than anticipated with Douglas Allen - actual figures, DG got £437k and told me I was being greedy for asking for more and £425 was fair (September 2015). I managed to get, within a week of instructing new estate agents, two offers. Closed at and sold last month with £495k. All subsequent offers received at £475k plus. Dont use these guys if you're a landlord.

Ashfaque · 7 October 2015

Agent replied · 28 October 2024

Dear Mr Khan,We are sorry to read your review and have looked into your comments. Exclusivity agreements are normal practice within estate agency and it is sensible for both parties to agree a fixed sole agency period at the time of taking instructions. Sellers need to be confident that their agent has had sufficient time to fully market the property, arrange all possible viewings, encourage offers and negotiate with those offers in order to obtain the best possible price. Because agents bear all marketing costs upfront with no guarantee of earning commission unless and until contracts exchange, it is fair to expect a reasonable timeframe in which to achieve this. In your case a period of 12 weeks was agreed when you came onto the market and you signed an agreement confirming your acceptance of this sole agency time period. The asking price of your property was agreed after you had taken advice from another agent and following our visit. You agreed to our suggested price based on a review we conducted together of the prices being achieved in the local area for properties of the same type and condition as yours. There were specific factors we had to take into consideration such as the close proximity of the railway line, the price fluctuation dependent on which side of the railway the property was located and the fact that it was ex local authority. Douglas Allen conducted extensive marketing, arranged 92 viewings (some did not attend as can happen) and received a total of 8 offers from 5 different interested parties. The offers received were both below and above your asking price with the highest being £17,500 above your asking price. This confirms that the market was fully tested and we are confident that the highest price possible was achieved at that time. You accepted the highest offer and the sale was proceeding well with your buyer having a survey carried out promptly. You then requested a price increase which the buyer was not prepared to agree to, therefore the sale regrettably fell through. You then obtained several updated valuations from other agents who all suggested a higher price, however they were agents who had no recent experience of selling properties in the immediate area and were probably not aware of the full extent to which the market had already been tested by us. They would also have been competing for your business in a buoyant market and this can lead to over ambitious estimates. It was of course your prerogative to seek alternative advice and indeed to instruct another agent(s), however we were still within the pre-agreed sole agency period at this time and Mr Ford felt that there was no justification for an early release. We therefore offered to increase your asking price in order to commence a fresh marketing campaign to try to achieve a higher sale price for you. We understand that you chose not to do this and continued to request an early release.Mr Ford used his personal email address when he was out of the office in order to ensure that he was still available to answer your queries and try to help you. In conclusion, we are sorry that you have been dissatisfied with Mr Ford, however it does appear that Douglas Allen did everything possible to try to obtain the best price for your property. We hope that you will go on to sell your home in time and that your move will be a happy and successful one. Customer Relations - Douglas Allen

bad experience wickford office

We felt we have been lied to and given the wrong expectations of what the agent initially informed us they could achieve. The market is not as strong as it has been over the past few months and we realised that but we were given the impression that they had numerous clients looking which we dont believe is the case. We have bought and sold over 16 properties in past years and are familiar with changes in the market but never been lied to. We agree with other posts for this branch which all show a negative rating Surely you have to take notice.

Agent replied · 28 October 2024

Dear Mr & Mrs WoodThank you kindly for your feedback. We are sorry to read your comments and would like to clarify the position. When our manager Stuart conducted his appraisal of your property, several factors were taken into consideration when recommending an asking price, including the sale prices recently achieved for similar properties in the area. We understand that Stuart’s suggested marketing price was in line with other quotes you had received but that you wanted to try for a higher price which Stuart agreed to do.We were aware that you had just found a property you wanted to buy and therefore ensured that active marketing commenced immediately. In under a week we had booked 6 viewings for the first Saturday and whilst the feedback was encouraging, it can take a little longer for offers to come in when the asking price is higher than recommended. Unfortunately the sellers of the property you wanted to buy received another offer and you decided to withdraw from the market. We appreciate your disappointment and are sorry that you decided not to continue marketing as a result. We cannot however agree that you were misled by our staff who were simply following your instructions regarding the price. The property market in Essex has continued to be very buoyant in recent months with many of our properties achieving the asking price or more. Please be assured that we are as keen to sell the properties we market as the owners are and pride ourselves on our ability to achieve the best possible price in the shortest possible timeframe. After such a short time on the market, it is far too soon to reach the conclusion that your asking price was unachievable. We do hope that we can assist you with your move in the near future and would encourage you to contact Stuart again when you are ready. Thank you. Customer Relations - Douglas Allen

East Ham Branch

Absolutely terrible service at every stage! Never once returned a call, refused to let us contact the seller, either patronising or extremely rude service (no in between!). On several occasions they very obviously lied to our faces. For example informing us that it is not usual or necessary to have a proper survey done and the a bank's valuation is good enough to assure you there are no problems. They also refused to let us go with our own mortgage (which was already agreed in principle) as their mortgage adviser basically said we had to go with him (not illegal but not far off from what I understand). Certainly wouldn't recommend! These people refer to themselves as 'mediators' but all they achieved was to rub both parties up the wrong way with their gross incompetence.

Really bad service, to make it worse staff are rude and abrupt. Asking for an sale update from a Sales progresser 'do you and your wife not communicate' If I wasn't so far down the line I would get rid of them. After Sales Service

Having moved the sale of my mothers house to D Allen from another local agent, I was impressed with the level of contact and enthusiasm. More importantly was the input of Natasha Mercieca Sales Progressor who took over the account post sale. Her level of diligence, ability to communicate clearly and at times when she said she would, was a welcome factor in what became a protracted situation due to issues with the buyer. Her work undoubtedly assisted in achieving exchange, and I highly commend her.

Dear Graham,Your recognition of Natasha is duly noted, I am glad to say you are not alone! We are one of the very few estate agents who go to the expense of having our own team of Sales Progressors, as you have found they are worth their weight in gold.Thank you very much for your comments and your custom.Regards,Jon Holden - Managing Director, Douglas Allen

We were told that if we were not to use their in-house conveyancer our offer would not be recommended to the seller. We informed the estate agent that we already had a conveyancer but he was adamant that we had to use the in-house conveyancer to stand a chance. We felt extremely pressurised and as we did not want to lose the house we agreed. In the end we lost to another 'best offer' bidder. Now the headache of claiming back our conveyancer down payment begins. In the conveyancer's small print we noticed that Douglas Allen would receive a marketing payment of £545 plus VAT for a successful completion. We will definitely be speaking to trading standards. In our top three for worst estate agents.

Dear Faisal When you submitted your offer, it was recommended that you consider using one of our conveyancing panel to assist you as the relationship that we have with these firms aids communication during the conveyancing process, often helping to expedite the transaction. It is of course your prerogative to decline our recommendation and instruct a conveyancer of your choice and this has no effect on how we deal with your offer. I can confirm that your offer was submitted to the seller for their consideration in the usual manner however they chose to proceed with a higher offer from another potential purchaser. The referral fee paid to Douglas Allen upon successful completion of a sale is openly disclosed to all customers in line with our commitment to operating an honest and transparent business. Our conveyancing panel operate on a no sale no fee basis, therefore any money paid to them will be refunded promptly, with the exception of any disbursements already incurred on your behalf. Should you require any assistance with this refund, please contact our Customer Relations team on 01702 540802. We are sorry that you have been disappointed on this occasion however our Barkingside office remain keen to identify a suitable property for you to purchase.
