GoogleBoyd Legal were extremely professional in guiding me through every stage whilst taking out an equity release. The team were there whenever I had a query throughout the entire process. GoogleThis review relates to my dealings with Diana Boyd, Director of Boyd Legal. Ignorant, unprofessional, unpleasant to deal with as they don't want to reply to questions. Had to contact the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission to deal with my complaint. Diana Boyd should be ashamed to call herself a professional. Briefly, my experience in dealing with Boyd Legal is that they are poor at communicating with their client. Having complained to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, they have found that 'There is evidence of a breach of Article 3 of the Service Standards relating to communication.' The SLCC recommended that my complaint 'amounted to an inadequate professional service' and recommended Boyd Legal pay me £750 compensation. Due to the nature of SLCC complaints (not enforceable by SLCC at the investigative stage) Boyd Legal have declined to pay the compensation (surprise, surprise - would turkeys vote for Christmas?). My SLCC complaint will now escalate to be decided by a Determination Committee whose decision is final and binding, unless Boyd Legal want to appeal to the Court of Session. I'll write a detailed review in due course - probably a lot sooner than the 18+ months it's taken to get my complaint looked at. In that time, I've not had a single response or apology from Diana or her representatives. Sums up the attitude of Boyd Legal perfectly. My advice, if you find you must use this company above all others, is don't be afraid to complain about substandard service to Boyd Legal, and if you get zero response, as I did, complain to the SLCC. It's a pretty pointless exercise so far, but the main thing is having your voice heard, because Boyd Legal, Diana, 'Princess of Silence' in particular, have zero interest in complaints about their shoddy service. Save yourself hassle and grief - hire a different solicitor, you've plenty of others to choose. **Update - Boyd Legal agreed to the £750 compensation rather than face the Determination Committee. Arrogant and ignorant fools could have resolved this 18 months ago. End result is I got what I wanted but was made to jump through hoops to get here. Received bad service from Boyd? Complain and persist, these guys hope if they draw it out long enough you'll give up. Don't - it's not a free service they provide, make them pay when they screw up.

GoogleLike Jonathon and Claire below I had a most disastrous experience with Boyd Legal, in particular, Diana Boyd, and would advise that you avoid them like the plague. I gave one of their solicitors a set of title deeds to study and was told that I could collect them within the week. When, more than a week later I went into their offices one lunch time to retrieve them I was told that I would have to put "my request" in writing. I immediately expressed my surprise and displeasure and was told shortly afterwards by Peter Boyd that they could not find them but not to worry as he would speak with the solicitor involved and call me back that afternoon and in any event they would simply, if necessary, order a duplicate set of title deeds. Of course, no such phone call was received. After approximately two weeks and an exchange of several e-mails with Peter Boyd in which I clarified that I did not actually own the property concerned (it makes no difference, anybody can, as I did, buy any set of title deeds), the matter was eventually handed to Diana Boyd. She then seemed to me to try to deflect responsibility for the matter, she then seemed to me to suggest that the matter was of little if any relevance as I was not the owner of the property referred to in the title deeds I had bought from Registers of Scotland and did nothing about the matter, did not order a set of title deeds. Eventually I too had to make an official complaint to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, another less than impressive organisation which takes months to do anything and which seems to revel in making things more difficult than they need to be and creating a (paper) mountain out of a mole hill. However, eventually and after more than eight months after having first taken the matter to Boyd Legal, I was advised by the SLCC that they had offered the paltry sum of £50 to drop my complaint and that I should accept this as it exceeded the cost of the deeds and that there was no guarantee that they, the SLCC, would investigate my complaint further. This seemed, and still seems, like blackmail in my opinion, but perhaps I should not have been surprised given that they, the SLCC, are financed by the lawyers they investigate! There is therefore, no recourse to the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman. All in all a most unsatisfactory experience and as I say, I would avoid Boyd Legal like the plague.

GoogleQuite efficient but let down by not having the copies of documents that we handed over at the meeting and we needed to send them again. Not really a problem but what if I didn't have a scanner etc. ? People I spoke to were a pleasure to deal with and I liked the way they handled things efficiently by email. Been a while since I dealt with solicitors but perhaps they all do that now?
