TrustpilotAwful, greedy company
Luckily I am not a tenant but my experience with this association was horrific. They masquerade as a charity that looks after their tenants, which going from the reviews and from what I have heard about them is not true. I owned an ex council property that had been sold with a clause in the deeds that stated permission had to be granted to extend or build anything in the garden. I obtained planning for a single dwelling, to build and move into not to sell on, and they charged me £33k for the privilege, plus a valuation fee and solicitors fees, which in total came to £36k. Yes I expected to pay something, but that is astronomical, even my solicitor could not believe what they charged. The whole process was dragged out and very stressful and their staff were uncaring. Please don’t think that I am comparing this to the horror that some tenants have been through, I’m not, but it just goes to show how greedy they are, and if they have charged me that, just one case, where is the money going, because it doesn’t appear to be spent on looking after their tenants, which was the justification for their ‘ransom’ fee!Updated 15.11.22. I emailed as requested, had a standard ‘your email has been received and we aim to reply within 2 days’. That was on 2nd November and I’ve not received a reply.ANOTHER UPDATE 6.12.22. STILL NO REPLY FROM ASTER!

TrustpilotSarah Richards RESALE & STAIRCASING NEGOTIATOR
Sarah Richards is a true asset to Aster Group, words simply can not describe how much so!Her hard work, efficiency, attention to detail, client care, just to list a few qualities, shine like the brightest of stars in Sarah. We have been in Shared Ownership with Aster since 2017, starting our journey in a beautiful flat, recently climbing the ladder to a stunning house. Our most recent move has been the most stressful, overwhelming, challenging, mentally & physically draining experience of our lives. This was due to an extremely bad decision in choosing solicitors for our purchase.Furthermore Sarah was really there for us every single step of the way, Sarah went above and beyond to be there for us throughout the entire process. We would particularly like to mention that we had Sarah’s full support throughout the entire process of exchange / completion day on 15/09/22. Without Sarah this day would not have run smoothly, we were at great risk of being homeless, again due to bad decision making choosing solicitors.Sarah saved the day making a true miracle happen, we moved in to our new house successfully on exchange / completion day as planned. Thank you so very much for supporting a family with 2 very young children, Sarah, we will be forever grateful for everything you have done and continue to do. You are simply the best, we love Aster Group! From,The Adams Family

TrustpilotLIARS. Do not trust a word they say
We have been waiting OVER 8 MONTHS now to move into a shared ownership property in Badsho Lea, Farnham. We have had to pay massive amounts of money for storage, airbnbs etc and we haven’t got an address now to put down for jobs so basically a whole year of our lives have been completely wasted. We get the occasional email every month or so and it’s a new excuse every time. They try and use complex language to disguise their own wrongdoings so we don’t understand what they are talking about. It was meant to be JANUARY 2022 that we were moving in. Then it got delayed to MAY, then JULY, then AUGUST and now he’s saying “best case scenario late September”. That got me thinking - what September is he talking about? September 2022? 2023? 2080? Who knows, all I know is that we have been constantly lied to and manipulated and almost a whole year of our lives have been completely wasted and of course they won’t do anything about the situation in terms of helping us (offering us a temporary property until it’s actually ready to move into). Me and my family are all hard workers and law abiding citizens and we don’t deserve to be treated like the way they are treating us (scum of the earth). Personally, I would stay WELL CLEAR of this suspicious housing association. Absolutely disgusting

Hello Mr Poet, I'm so sorry to hear that there have been delays with getting you into your new home, this is the last thing we want for any of our customers. I can see that our sales team has already explained the situation in detail, and as you are aware, these are issues with the council and are completely beyond our control. If we’d known these problems would arise then of course we could not have launched the houses for sale when we did. We launched three months prior to when the houses were due to be ready and the houses were finished in this timescale; we’re just unable to complete any sales due to the councils refusing to sign off on the planning issues. I'm so sorry if you think that we are using complex language to disguise any wrongdoings - I can assure you this isn't the case and we are just trying to give you as much information as possible as to why there are delays so that you're fully aware of the situation. I will pass your comments onto our sales team. Many thanks, Alex

TrustpilotFind shared ownership elsewhere
A year has passed since I bought my shared ownership property through Aster and I would not want for anybody to go through what I did. I bought my home off plan and could not view it until months after I had given my nonrefundable deposit. Upon viewing, I dared point out some errors in the building work and was greeted by 'then I suggest you don't go forward with the purchase' from the Aster representative, which waw fine for her to say after I had already parted with money. After that, I faced poor communication, an incorrect completion date and a housing association that will not tackle antisocial tenants within the estate. It's diabolical and if possible, I would implore others to find a shared ownership through another association.

Me and my partner have had nothing but issues since moving in over a year ago and Aster has done nothing about any of the issues we have had. Our housing offer Ed and his boss Vanessa have done nothing but lie through their teeth, gaslight us and convince us to believe they would help with issues when they had no intentions of actually doing anything.

TrustpilotTotally incompetent .
Totally incompetent . Never reply to enquiries. Promise repairs that are never done. We've had a leaking roof for over 30 years, a wood burner ( our only source of heat) that we have been told 3 times is unsafe to use and would be sorted immediately. That was 4 years ago, still the same. Our energy efficiency rating is F, a level that houses are no longer allowed to be rented at. I could go on, as could most of my Aster housed neighbours!

TrustpilotRepairs either not done years later or a shoddy job done instead!
There is a list simply too long to write about all the ways Aster have let me down. Countless repairs that are still not done 3 years later ranging from door handles that have fallen off presenting a massive fire and safety risk to big cracks in the walls, not helping me with my disability and requests made, a nail sticking out of a door frame that cut my son's foot open when we first moved in, unsuitable vinyl flooring on a base that should not be on causing uneven wear and tear and becoming lose and unstuck, countless people coming over "to fix things" and then not actually fixing them or doing such a bad job that it's broken again within a week. Paying £1000 for what? I'm so fed up with it now and have been in tears with frustration.

TrustpilotThe sales team at Aster were fantastic
The sales team at Aster were fantastic. We only dealt with a couple of members of the team, but most notably Sarah Richards was amazing from start to finish. She was always there to help us with any questions at all. She was very honest and open with us. There were times when our mortgage advisor was not very helpful and made many mistakes and there was Sarah ready to pick up the pieces for us. The seller was proving difficult even on the last hurdle and yet again there was Sarah helping us out and making suggestions. Even after we'd moved in, she was still emailing to make sure we were okay.

TrustpilotAs useful as a concrete parachute
My boyfriends gas has not worked for roughly 2 months now, we have both separately rang up Aster countless times to arrange someone to come and repair it, it has repeatedly been pushed back by Aster. An emergency repair was scheduled today by my boyfriend, who is currently at work expecting this to be fixed so he can, after 2 months, have a hot shower in his own home, not too much to ask wouldn’t you say? I was here when Aster turned up, in pretty high spirits thinking this will be resolved and my boyfriend can come home to a warm flat to relax in (basic human necessities I think we can all agree). Upon arrival the man quickly points out we are due a gas service check, & that the gas meter is capped (things Aster have already been made aware of) & therefore ‘he doesn’t have time’ to resolve both of these things today & has rescheduled once again another repair for Monday. Let me get this straight, you don’t have time to carry out a job that you’re being paid to carry out? You were called out on behalf of the company to fix this particular issue, you are driving an Aster van, wearing an Aster shirt, representing the company, but ‘don’t have time’ to provide any legitimate service for the company you are ‘working’ for. What are you doing all day then? Turning up on people’s doorsteps to stand there with your Aster badge on and look pretty? If you want to talk about not having enough time…myself and my boyfriend don't have enough time to continuously chase you guys up to fix something you have been made aware of for a long while now, for you to insist on pushing back further. It would be interesting to see how that man would feel if he didn’t have access to a warm shower, the ability to wash his own clothes or dishes in his own home for over 2 months. Not to mention it’s now November, pretty damn cold outside. I don’t expect any worthwhile response from Aster in writing this, just making anyone that is curious aware that these people are just about as useful as a concrete parachute.

TrustpilotSold a dream, live in a nightmare
Been in a shared ownership property for 3 years, with issues since day one with a nuisance neighbour, loud all night parties, walls shaking, drug taking and dealing, threatening behaviour to name just a few. Raised it over a year ago with aster as it became unliveable, to be told it’s not asters problem and call the police if I’m in danger - should have seen this as the first sign of a poor company. Called the police several times about the drug dealing issue to be told aster have a duty of care to help me, so I tried again to complain several months later. Finally was referred to the ‘anti social behaviour team’ following a raid on the neighbouring property, only then did they start to take my complaint in any seriousness. They were supposed to support me as my family and I were threatened and intimidated by this neighbour and this team were to make sure I’m safe in my home, I was promised additional locks if I needed them, told the neighbour had breached the lease and they can get them out - essentially promised everything would be ok. Well that was a massive joke! Aster basically gave the neighbour all the info they needed to make my life more of a hell than it had been previously, but do it without the loud all night parties so it looks like they aren’t a nuisance and they will close the case and wait for any further instances of anti social behaviour, but also it is dependant on the length of time since the first instance may mean they can’t even use the evidence, even though this directly contradicts what I was told at the start of the process. Aster still get their money and the neighbour gets to continue living there without worry so everyone except the person affected seems to win. Aster have no regard for what has happened previously and although after several months of chasing them for updates and threatening further complaints from me, being completely forgotten about for weeks whilst the case officer wasn’t available (6 weeks of ‘annual leave’ - which was clearly code for he’s not here and nobody is covering the workload) they finally followed up with the police to confirm exactly what I already told them. From this point on I got a call every two weeks to ‘check in on things’... well of course everything was getting better, they handed the neighbour all the info they needed to not get caught and give them an idea of where it came from, but put a disclaimer on every call to say ‘aster can’t guarantee the neighbour won’t be able to tell where the info has come from’ to cover their backs. But clearly their way of saying it will be obvious so good luck keeping your family safe. Now, after 6 months of me waiting for an update, they can’t confirm what steps have been taken, but have assured ‘steps were taken’ and will look to close the case as the neighbour is now not being as loud and my family and I haven’t been threatened with violence in a few months so they think all is ok. This has left me with no choice but to sell my property because I would rather not live next door to a drug dealer, which you do not expect when they tell you before purchasing the property that the neighbours are quiet and you won’t be able to hear anything between houses. The aster team member called me and distressed me during my labour, when I had actively said I was in labour early in the call. They clearly do not care about anything more than money. The property itself is lovely and big, but the situation lets it down. Alongside these issues the development is still not finished, roads are horrendous and regularly ruin the tyres on your car. Happily increase the maintenance costs regularly though. No end in sight for the finishing touches either. You’re certainly sold a dream, and you end up living in a pure nightmare with very few ways to get out without losing money. I would never deal with aster again, I haven’t sold the property yet, but I am certainly expecting that to be just as bad of a process as everything else has been. If I were you, I wouldn’t buy through them, find another company, and if you have no choice, certainly check out your neighbourhood thoroughly before signing anything.

TrustpilotUtterly inept customer service
About three weeks ago I received an email from Aster Group about a property visit which was clearly intended for someone else with a similar name (I've never had any dealings with Aster). This other person must have supplied an incorrect email address, or Aster themselves had got it wrong.I immediately contacted Aster via their website to let them know that their customer wouldn't have got their email, and provided their name and the job number quoted. They replied apologetically and said they'd address the issue.Since then, I've had four more emails misaddressed in exactly the same way, including two regarding appointment dates scheduled for the next day and the same day. Despite two further emails and a phone call from me explaining the situation, the emails are still coming. Utterly hopeless. I've done my best, and from now on I'm binning anything they send me.In response to Aster's response, 5/11/2024: -'We would like to investigate this further and resolve this promptly.' Well, you had your chances. I first notified you via your website on 18th October, the day the first email arrived, providing all the necessary details, which you acknowledged via email on the same day. I used that email to reply, letting you know that I'd received the second misdirected email when it arrived, on 29th October, and you again acknowledged receiving it on the same day. When the third one arrived yesterday, I phoned your Customer Support just after 3 pm in a final effort to let you know that your customer wasn't getting your messages because they were coming to me instead.'Can you please contact us by completing our enquiry form on our website or calling us on 0333 400 8222.' That'd be a 'No' - I've already done both things, providing all the necessary details (customer's name and your job reference number) each time.'We can then pass this to our relevant team and ask they contact you.' For the love of God, WHY?! Don't you think you've already contacted me enough?! I don't NEED you to contact me; I'm not your customer, and there is nothing you can do for me other than STOP sending me this other person's emails!
