Dundee firm

Dundee firm. Solicitor service - Quick to make a first appointment, once they have the job they are almost impossible to get a response from, or updates about the process. Service is the opposite of transparent. Property management - as a property owner - thanks to Gilson and Gray, we’ve now had Gilson and Gray buy a property in the block. Since they have been a part of the community it is almost impossible to maintain the property to the standard we are used to in the tenement. In the past all landlords and homeowners were quick to respond to solve any issues together and now since Gilson and Gray is in the block we even struggle to get simple repairs done. What is worse is that we have to run every little thing past them - and they just go ahead and drill through external walls, drill through our sewage pipes, then attempt to fix it which resulted in loose sewage pipes along our building. When we pulled them up on the unauthorised work they simply laughed at us, and eventually after chasing them up for months they found a non wobbly solution. This is more than unprofessional and I wish they had never bought a flat in our block. It used to be easy to maintain our property, but they just do whatever they want - and keep us from carrying out essential work in a timely manner. It is even difficult to get a hold of them and when you do, they speak to you in a condescending manner and are unhelpful.

Samuel at Gilson Grey is wonderful!

We worked with Samuel at Gilson Grey. He was helpful, lovely to chat with and provided us with a positive letting experience after having weeks of no luck trying to find a place.

Avoid at all costs

Please do not use if you want to have a easy and quick process. The conveyancers are non responsive, phone calls are not answered, messages are not returned and email so unanswered. Use someone else! Even if they are slightly more expensive as by the time Gilson Grey get there act together the extra money spent on a better form would be worth it.

Anyone but...

I can't add anything new to the concerns itemised in the other one star reviews as my experience completely echoed those. All I will say is that, if you have the choice between Gilson Gray Solicitors (Lincoln) and We Rip Your Eyes Out and Feed Your Soul To The Devil Solicitors (Hell), then the latter would be a safer and more productive bet.

Worst company i have ever dealt with,i…

Worst company i have ever dealt with,i have bought and sold 5 houses and this tops the lot by a country mile, a catalogue of errors from my female "Solicitor" in the Edinburgh office and my buyer almost left homeless for the night, i received my money 24 hours after the moving date after threating to launch an investigation as she had left everything too late in the day to get anything sorted and claimed the bank had the account number wrong! she never ever gets back to you and her answer message states she is on holiday until the 8th of Aug even though its 6 weeks later.I wouldn't trust them to sell a bike on Gumtree.Do yourself a favor and choose ANYONE except this shambolic lot. I feel so sorry for anyone who is trusting them to sell their house.

Have never dealt with this company

Have never dealt with this company, yet this morning I receive an email from them saying’ thank you for your payment of £50.00 ‘. matter reference 14497/10. The amount will be deducted from your bank in 3-5 days. FOR WHAT? Is this a big scam? Have never heard of this company till now, and I certainly have not given my bank details over. Explain GILSON GRAY.

Poor performance - Only want your money

Simply put - this group of “professional” people lack competence. I was assigned a trainee solicitor, who initially seemed knowledgable and helpful, but went off on holiday for 3 weeks in the month prior to my house move. With no one else assigned my case, I was left with unanswered questions and a lacklustre service. Then on her return, what can only be described as chaos ensued trying to get the loose ends tied up with 1 week left until the sale day. The senior solicitor was also then involved, who was equally as unhelpful. On the sale day they happily asked for funds, then after a few hours of waiting, asked for proof these funds had been sent. Then after another hour or so, said they didn’t request the correct amount of funds, and asked for more. Further waiting and excuses that the selling party solicitor was the cause of the delay, when in actual fact, these solicitors had not carried out the conveyancing task in the 10 week timeframe initially agreed when the offer was accepted. Eventually given the news the sale had gone through at 5pm and to go to the sellers solicitors to pick up the keys, to find the office in darkness with no one to be seen. Luckily for me at this point, a member of a different team within the sellers solicitor helped me by making enquiries and locating my keys, allowing my family to not be homeless for the night. Then we moved in and found a large number of costly issues with the house which weren’t disclosed for the sale. I reported these to Gilson Gray well within the allotted time period and both trainee and the legal director were not interested in helping. Now, 4 weeks in, and they are not answering calls or emails to get a resolution. They have taken my money for the conveyancing and are nowhere to be seen for support. Pathetic display from a “multi award winning law firm”. They have let me down and my advice to you is don't use their services to then let you down too.

Dundee Office are excellent

I used Gilson Gray Dundee Office and found the solicitors and admin staff to be very helpful and attentive. I am happy with how the process was explained to me - it has been awhile since I last sold an bought a property. They took good care to ensure the property I was buying was all sound. Although I was buying and selling during the summer holiday period - and this involved some changes in staff because of holidays - the transition was seamless and I was very happy with the experience. I had been a bit worried because I had read these reviews after I had signed up but my experience with the Dundee office has all been positive and there were no hidden costs. I am delighted with my property and believe the skills of the team helped me successfully purchase at a good price.

Property purchase

Property purchased in October absolute shambles of a firm to deal with try to bill me an extra 3k as they assumed I owned property I was in before purchase. If I hadn't noticed they were still going to take the money!! Not interested solicitor was horrendous and didn't get things done I ended up doing most of it myself. Also when I got the keys to the property they were major things missing kitchen units , doors curtain poles, bathroom cabinets which I had paid for with purchase and the response they gave me a can't get hold of the sellers solicitor?? Not good enough stay well clear a total con of a company.

House purchase

Bought a house last October and I now realise going cheaper isn't always best . Could never get in contact with staff about any matter regarding purchase of property, attempted to con me of and extra 3000 pound and when a asked why this was ? Response from solicitor was "these things just happen". If I hadn't noticed they were quite happy to take the money from my back account absolutely no morals what so ever. Moved into the property and items were removed actual kitchen units bedroom doors and bathroom cabinet so I phoned and sent pictures and the response again was "nothing we can really do just one of them things" . Would never recommend and have told people to stay well clear as there nice to start but once payment is agreed they are not interested in the slightest shocking company!!!

A shockingly bad firm. Stay well away.

Gilson Gray is by some margin the most incompetent, dishonest and ill-mannered legal firm I have ever had the misfortune to come across. Incompetent: the firm was unable to grasp simple terms of engagement that should have been clear to a pre-pubescent child. Their task was to complete some papers in relation to a loan. Somehow Gilson Gray was unable to understand that there was no property purchase requiring their input and repeatedly sent documents, including draft engagement terms, quoting conveyancing and loan documentation.Dishonest: Gilson Gray quoted around £950 for the combined conveyancing and loan work. When they finally grasped there was no conveyancing to do they reduced the fee by only around £100 and, when questioned, jokingly responded by describing fees as a “movable feast”.Having charged me the majority of the original quote for the minority of the work, Gilson Gray then deducted their fee from the transaction proceeds without us having first signed engagement terms. Not only did Gilson Gray overcharge me for the work done, they then overcharged me by a further £100 and only owned up to that once I had complained to the solicitors regulator. Ill-mannered: As others have experienced, Gilson Gray repeatedly ignored correspondence. It says all you need to know about the firm when even the so-called client service /complaints partner doesn’t bother to respond to client service requests and complaints. A shockingly bad firm. Stay well away.

First time buying a property, first property I pulled out of due issues with the property and completed 2 days ago! I categorically could not have done this without Alice, she has been amazing from start to finish, communicating with me and also a phone call not just an email.Really appreciate everything you’ve done and will never thank you enough!

Good experience both times

I’ve used Gilson Gray’s services twice now, for both buying and selling (once in 2015 and again in March 2021).Both times there have been unexpected bumps in the road during the process but GG went above and beyond to help smooth it all out.Leslie and Callum in particular were very good. I’ve given 4* instead of 5 as at the beginning the person who was dealing with us went AWOL with no response to emails or phone calls and no explanation from anyone about what was happening or who would be taking over. I had to keep phoning the offices and was on the verge of going elsewhere. But once someone else took over it was Ok and overall my dealings with GG have been positive.

Avoid like the plague.

Avoid like the plague. Was recommended as part of the estate agents package. Before documentation was signed they were lovely.Once signed I was literally bounced between 3 lawyers as each previous had "left the company".Eventually I was dealing with a paralegal who I honestly felt like they were the customer and I was providing them with the service (as an oppose to the opposite).I constantly had to chase and attain updates and it was stressful and should be the last thing you're stressing about when moving house. In the end I had problems with the house which should have been covered/fought for compensation by the legal team, they kept bouncing me to different departments and then told me the basic fee would be £600 if I decide to go ahead and fight.Avoid at all costs. No idea how companies such as this are still in business.

Do not use

These solicitors are appalling do not go anywhere near them. They don't know what a phone is as they don't answer them! I couldn't believe how many times I asked about completion date despite the rest of the chain being ready. Its like banging your head against a brick wall. Don't put yourself through the stress!!
