TrustpilotJust the worst.
Simply the worst estate / letting agents I ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The lethal combination of extortionate fees, disrespectful staff and horrendous service. Having rented property with different agencies over the years, Martin & Co, Central Manchester are easily the worst I've come across by a country mile - and that really is saying something. Please save your money, effort and precious time by AVOIDING them at all cost.

TrustpilotAs a landlord this has to be the worst…
As a landlord this has to be the worst company I've ever had to deal with.I've had the phone put down on me muliple times, contracts alterations not taken notice of, dealt with rude staff. The builders they employ: Think long hard and carefully before you let them loose on your house ; they're more than prepared to overcharge and not guarantee their work and quote text from a book!! Then there's the issue of deposits not being returned on time even with 6 months notice!! Do yourself a favour and find a different lettings agent. I'm really surprised these people are still business!

TrustpilotMartin & Co - Non Neutral Letting Agency I have ever come across
As a tenant who has resided with Martin and Co for the past 1 year and 8 months, I regret to provide negative feedback regarding my move-out experience. Unfortunately, I found the team to be heavily biased in favor of the landlord, leading to a delay of approximately one month in receiving confirmation of my move-out date. The staff's apparent lack of impartiality was evident in their communication, which emphasized rules and regulations for tenants without addressing concerns or delays reported by the tenant against the landlord.Despite returning the property in the same condition as received and having it professionally cleaned, I was charged £150 for something I did not accept. Although I paid to avoid further complications, I am disappointed that Martin and Co appeared to be wholly one-sided.In my opinion, a letting agency's success relies on their ability to act as a neutral party between tenants and landlords. Unfortunately, Martin and Co's lack of impartiality has left me with a negative impression, and I have already informed my acquaintances of my experience to avoid such an outcome in the future.

TrustpilotExcellent service and happy to help.
First-time renter and Martin & Co made the experience pleasant and stress-free. They were always helpful and answered all the questions I had (no matter how stupid). I want to say a special thanks to Zak Taylor and John in the Huddersfield branch for helping me to much.

TrustpilotI had a view booked for 2pm in…
I had a view booked for 2pm in Birmingham city centre, I don’t live in Birmingham city centre.office rung at 1pm to confirm I was coming to the property view, I said I was.I was 4to5 mins late and there was no one there anymore. Called the office, they said that I have to wait for the next view, I asked when, and on the phone they said next 5 mins. I waited 16 mins to then the agent comes out and tells me that’s it, I can not see the house. He did say in the end when I explain how wrong this was. “Let me see when is the next view.” I was by the entrance, you just had to let me in and spend 5 mins showing the place. Absurd how commercial we are treated when we trying to find a place to call home for a few years to come.

TrustpilotDisgusting company (Ashford branch)…
Disgusting company (Ashford branch) they will do evening to hold on your deposit. All other neighbours (tenants with Martin & co) had the same experience. Some left their homes in a even better condition than rented initially but they still had the deposit holded for ridiculous and unreal reasons. Avoid by all means if you want to keep your deposit.

TrustpilotGreed, taking advantage, un-reliable!
I’m very disappointed and somewhat not so surprised... I made sure to return the apartment in the manner I received it to the best of my ability. There’s no point of me complaining here and throwing an tantrum because you’re business does not care what I have to say. You’re charging me £105 for cleaning and perhaps think this the best for Martin and Co but fail to realise that you’re damaging relations with future tenants. The fridge freezer crack I can slide as I may have missed this but the bed and bath light clean for £85 is absurd. That’s a ridiculous charge for such a job. But you know you can get away with it because you have the upper hand taking money from my initial deposit. As for the utility providers and forwarding address, what was the point of me filling in the form when handing over the keys? You already have the information in your records. Why are you again asking me for this information. I understand this sounds unreasonable of me to have a go at Martin and Co but I’ve very let down with how things have been handled. I hope the £85 ridiculous and greedy charge for light clean is worth it. If it was £30 I wouldn’t even mention in, I guess you want the property to be of the highest quality for next tenants but £85 tells me you think its okay to take advantage of ex-tenants. I really hope lessons are learnt here, I’m sure reputation or relations of Martin & Co is valued, clearly its not.

TrustpilotUnhelpful, might as well have done the job myself
Dealt with the Gloucester branch to buy a property.I know they are not representing me, as I'm not paying them, however you would think it would be in their interest to help my side too.Little to no chasing done. My property is currently at 26 weeks and I still do not have a completion date!Every time I've complained I get told "we are doing everything we can" and then an email would be sent.I am a first time buyer with no idea about property purchase/selling and little to no help was forthcoming until I asked for it.I will never use this estate agent again.

TrustpilotThanks Gina and Nic
I have been living in a house managed by Martin and Co for almost a year. Once we ran out of hot water in winters due to some issues with boiler. Gina ensured that the issue is resolved quickly. I find the Martin and Co team (Both Gina and Nic) very professional and efficient.

TrustpilotNo hot water since moving in over a month ago
Moved in on 26 December and hot water wasn’t working, reported to Martin & Co saltaire that same week, now on 26th January still no further forward, 3 separate plumber visits and they are still unable to sort out the problem, meanwhile I am having to pay to heat up a full tank of water every day which I am not getting access to due to the faults. Emailed Martin and Co about this to see if they can offer me any help as I am struggling to afford my electric bill due to this and have paid them over 2k in total to move in including rent and deposits however responded that the previous tenant never reported any issues and they are being prompt with their repair response. Still no hot water and in the coldest months of the year. Martin and Co clearly do not care about the tenants I wish I never moved here

TrustpilotHorrid experience in Uckfield branch
Horrid experience in Uckfield branch! I viewed a flat above the office and I was greeted by a women. I've lived on my own since 19 so I have quite a solid experience with how a viewing must go. I was questioned by my age only being 21, and upon taking photos and measurements of the flat I asked for the washing machine cupboard measurements as I have my own furtniture. I was told somethng along the lines of 'lets see if you get the place first'. I had to walk myself through the flat as the estate agent stood there just following me. I then luckily got the appartment which I was grateful for. On my moving day I was handed a bunch of coloured keys and when I asked which is the main door key, a gent told me that he had no idea and they were handed to him like that. I was told to try each one out as they didnt know themselves. Wow! The appartment was directly above their office and no one offered to help me until I had to call them to say I needed help getting into my flat. I must say their maintenance team was great, no issues with the flat. I was told the landlord was selling the property and I had nothing to worry about as my tenancy would not be affected. I was then given notice to move out in my first 6 months due the property being sold to a private buyer. I had holidays booked, and asked Martin & Co kindly if I could extend the contract and move out when I came back from holiday (a few days after contract ended) otherwise I would have to move out one month early, and pay rent for a place I wouldnt even be living. I was immediatly told no. My new Estate Agents even questioned why they were not allowing this? I then rushed to find a new appartment and went out of my way every single viewing to make sure the place was clean. I even gave them my keys to enter the flat on a few occasions. They once left the corridoor light on, the next time they failed to even lock my front door, and the third time they admitted to forgetting to lock the door because one of their colegues 'couldnt lock it'. By far the worst experience I have gone through with an Estate Agent.

TrustpilotDreadful company
Dreadful company - avoid! Viewed a house via Rotherham branch and was shown round by the current owner at the very last appointment on the Wednesday. Martin and Co were shut by this time. Rang the office the next day to ask if it would go to best and finals and was told to have an offer in by 1700. Due to my work, it was 1600 before I could get back to them with my offer but still before the 1700 deadline. I was told that they had already accepted an offer from somebody in the morning and dismissed my point when I said that I'd been told before 1700. Once I told them of my offer, it turned out to be higher than the current offer and they suddenly change their minds about sticking with their first option, but the buyer decided to go with what had already been agreed as a gentleman's agreement. Totally missed about by this shambles of a company and will never look at properties on this company's portfolio.

TrustpilotSlow service
Staff were pleasant but it takes absolutely ages to get a response to any queries.I often got fobbed off when calling or e-mailing the agency. When I went to the check in meeting the lady was smoking outside the flat, which I consider to be unprofessional. Further to this, i had no information given to me about the moving out process until I resorted to contacting the manager.

TrustpilotShow customers more respect
My experience with Martin & Co 13-15 Worcester Street, Gloucester GL1 3AJ was disappointing, to say the least. I have worked in the service industry for 35 years, and I can say with good authority that I have never experienced such an unprofessional company as Martin & Co. With a 72% 1-star rating this company continues to provide poor service, at the expense might I add to my fellow customers. This is a message to the managers and staff at all the Martin & Co branches mentioned on the Trust Pilot website. Your conduct is rather unsporting and causes a great deal of stress to us customers. Please treat us with a little more respect. Should you heed this suggestion, you may see a decline in the amount negative comments you are getting. While you all at Martin & Co digest this message, would you be kind enough to give me a refund of my deposit? I think in my case that would be an honorable and decent thing to do.It would also be helpful if you would be good enough to respond to the email I sent you in December. From Ian in Gloucester

Trying to register with Folkestone Branch, spoken to Rachel with the intend of looking for a property to rent, she was totally unhelpfull on the phone and definitely rude: I have never been spoken like this before, and definetly not from a custmore advicer. She was not interested in take any business for the company. Totally an awful experience. Please avoid them.

TrustpilotAvoid this agency at all costs
Avoid this agency at all costs. Yeovil Branch. Scam you out of the majority of your deposit return. They ignore all the Landlords failings when you move into the property with a list of faults and deduct pretty much all your deposit on handback with faults (such as mould) that you cannot prevent because of the condition of the room. Appalling treatment and completely unprofessional staff. They just wash their hands of you.
