I've had varied experiences with letting agents, but I must say that my interaction with the team at Barnard Marcus was extremely efficient, professional and easy. Martin (who was my agent) was absolutely amazing, I was kept in the loop every step of the way, he was extremely professional and knew what he was doing. I cannot overstate the stress and frustration caused by Barnard Marcus (Thornton Heath). Months of chasing money they were holding illegally, coupled with the most unprofessional handling of a rental move you could imagine, has left me deeply disappointed. Despite the occasional positive review, my experience was one of dishonesty and negligence. They told me to collect the keys from the previous tenants at 8 PM, which is not only improper protocol but completely inappropriate. Upon arrival, I discovered that the tenants were still living there. I was assured the property was ready for move-in, yet the tenants were actively packing and moving out. This forced me to take a taxi home past midnight, as the property was clearly uninhabitable, with no professional cleaning or even a basic check-in or check-out conducted. After agreeing with the landlord to get my money refunded, Barnard Marcus falsely claimed I had already moved in, an impossible claim given the previous tenants were still occupying the property. To make matters worse, I discovered rat traps under the kitchen cabinets, and when I spoke with the tenants, they admitted, “there are rats that come at night.” When I confronted the estate agents about this, they dismissed it, saying, “the previous tenants confirmed there are no pests.” This level of dishonesty and disregard for tenant safety is shocking. It’s clear that Barnard Marcus prioritizes money over honesty and customer service. Retrieving my rent and deposit money was an exhausting process that required escalating to the Ombudsman. They even falsely claimed they never received the funds, leading to an extended investigation involving my bank. Only after months of persistence was I finally able to recover what was legally mine. **Final thoughts:** Avoid this agency at all costs. The second something goes wrong, they will not have your back and will do everything possible to retain your money. There are far better, more trustworthy agencies out there. Save yourself the stress and look elsewhere.

I've decided to give this a one-star rating, or even zero if possible. The agent, Sharone Balarajah, was incredibly rude. It's baffling to me how she even became an agent because she clearly lacks the ability to communicate with clients. Despite my attempts to explain, she was continuously shouting and rude, insisting that everything be done immediately because she was going on annual leave. It's unacceptable for Bernard Marcus Estate Agency to have agents like her, who seem to think they can insult clients. It felt like we were dealing with someone who had no regard for professionalism or basic courtesy. This behavior cannot be overlooked. It's imperative that this individual be confronted and sent for training. (FYI : This is Barnard Marcus Thornton Heath Croydon.) We want to remortgage our property

Very pleased with the service from Bernard Marcus. I mainly dealt with Steven, Shariane and Romael. Steven done most of the viewings followed by Shariane and I would highly recommend both of them as they really put the effort in (we had another agent before them and there was a big difference in their approach to selling). The feedback from the viewings was excellent (which you really really need) and forthcoming rather than you having to chase them for it. So it's a big 5 stars from me to Steven, Shariane and Romael for all their help and support in what can be a stressful process.

I recently used Bernard Marcus to rent my flat in Thornton Heath. I have used them multiple times over the last few years and always come back. Ronneil Dormer & Gareth Witter made the process completely stress free. They are so professional. All I had to provide was a set of keys and they did the rest. They liaised with the current tenants for viewings. Credit checked any prospective tenants. They promised to get someone in by the time frame I needed.
