⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I honestly can’t thank the team at JW Wood enough for the service I received. I initially contacted Barbara Smith after seeing a property advertised and, despite the very short notice, she managed to arrange a viewing for me within an hour of the property going live, with the viewing taking place that same afternoon. Martyn Hunter met us at the property and was brilliant. I decided to put an offer in and, incredibly, within another couple of hours the offer had been accepted by the vendor. Elizabeth Taylor then took care of all the paperwork and documentation, and by the following day I had everything sent through to my inbox. The whole process was unbelievably quick and straightforward, and everyone I dealt with was friendly, helpful and extremely efficient. You really don’t expect things to move that quickly when buying a property! A massive thank you to Barbara, Martyn, Elizabeth and the whole team at JW Wood. You made the whole experience so easy and stress-free, and I really appreciate the effort you all put in. Outstanding service from start to finish. ⭐☆☆☆☆ My experience with JW Woods Estate Agents has been extremely disappointing. I raised serious concerns about the property, including damage that was already present before I moved in, issues with the electricity and gas accounts being in debt, and ongoing problems with an inconsiderate and disruptive neighbour. I provided evidence, including photographs showing the condition of the property before I moved in, but I felt my concerns were not properly listened to or taken seriously. The response I received from the estate agents was extremely disappointing and left me feeling that my situation had not been handled with the professionalism, fairness, and care I expected. I was also concerned that my communications did not receive a response until I followed up, and I was left with the impression that my concerns were not being treated seriously. During my tenancy, I experienced behaviour from the landlord that I found deeply upsetting, including comments that I felt mocked my disabilities, my religious practices, and my use of phrases such as “wallahi”. I found this disrespectful and distressing. I also want to add that this estate agent appears to have a staff member who has made deeply offensive comments on LinkedIn about an Egyptian man and his Muslim beliefs. I am also concerned about the staff member’s association with a company director who has allegedly made repeated racist comments about Islam. I believe this behaviour raises serious questions about the standards and values of the people representing this business, and I hope the matter is properly investigated. A tenant should feel safe, respected, and supported in their own home. Unfortunately, my experience left me feeling intimidated, dismissed, and without confidence that my concerns were being handled appropriately. Based on my experience, I would not recommend JW Woods Estate Agents.

The journey so far... Contacted JW Wood Estate Agents Bishop Auckland, regarding selling our home, after a stale period of time on rightmove with another estate agent. Martyn came to see us and from the moment he walked into our home he made us feel confident that our home was great and that a new marketing strategy was needed. He came took fresh photos spending time in each room, making sure that each shot showcased our home Then he arranged for Barbara to visit to familiarise the team with the value of our home. Barbara was so kind and reassuring and has such a warm personality. Then although not met Amanda in person she has calmed our nerves as she negotiated a sale our home , and her personality also shines and she has a lovely sense of humour, as she made us feel human regarding the emotions we have been feeling! Elizabeth has also kept the support network going able to answer any questions we have. We have gone to Sold STC and Im sure that the support we need will remain on the other end of the telephone. The team are now supporting us to purchase our new forever home Would highly recommend all at JW Wood Bishop Auckland

Following my original review

Following my original review, I provided additional evidence including Uber earnings records and bank statements to support the income declared on my application. The tenancy ultimately did not proceed because the landlord required a successful Goodlord referencing outcome. However, after reviewing the evidence, JWW agreed to refund the holding deposit in full. The process was frustrating at times, particularly due to delays and conflicting communication regarding the holding deposit. However, I appreciate that the matter was eventually reviewed by management and resolved, and the refund has now been received. Thank you to Ashley Mitchell for taking the time to review the case and bring it to a conclusion.

Absolutely terrible experience with JW Wood in Bishop Auckland. Communication was poor from start to finish calls and emails were either ignored or took days to get a response. The staff seemed disorganized and uninterested in actually helping, which made an already stressful process even worse. There were multiple mistakes made along the way that should have been easily avoidable, and instead of taking responsibility, they just passed blame around. It felt like once they had my business, they didn’t care about providing any level of service. I would not recommend them to anyone looking for a professional, reliable estate agent. There are far better options out there.

JWW are an exceptional estate agency. They are super professional and so helpful. From the moment I met Martin who carried out the valuation I knew we were in safe hands. The communication with everyone in the Bishop Auckland office has always been top notch. A special vote of appreciation must go to Barbara who truly understands the importance a house has in people’s lives, particularly in our case, having been there for 34 years it has many special memories. As a property developer, I recently invited Martyn Hunter from JW Wood to value one of my properties and, given the company’s reputation and presence in the area, I was expecting a much stronger proposition. Unfortunately, I came away disappointed. The valuation provided was around £20,000 higher than three other local agents who had independently valued the same property. What concerned me more was the suggestion that if the property hadn’t sold within around 6, 8 weeks, the price could then be reduced. For me, that raised questions over the initial pricing strategy. I was looking for an accurate, evidence-led valuation designed to achieve the best result within a sensible timeframe not an ambitious figure at the outset followed by a reduction several weeks later. I was also surprised by the commercial terms. I was advised there would be upfront costs for the EPC and photography, alongside a lengthy contractual tie-in. That simply wasn’t as competitive or flexible as I had expected, particularly compared with some of the alternatives available locally. I can only comment on my own experience, but overall I expected considerably more. The combination of the significantly higher valuation, the suggestion of reducing after 6, 8 weeks, upfront marketing-related costs and the length of the agreement meant I didn’t feel confident proceeding. I ultimately chose another agent whose valuation and proposed marketing strategy felt more realistic and commercially aligned with what I was looking for.

Organisation is a mess.

I applied for a letted property I specifically stated on the online form that I couldn’t attend on Friday for viewing before 12:30pm due to work. 5 days prior to the viewing I received an appointment to attend at 10:30….I phoned a few hours later to rearrange an appointment they stated 1pm and I agreed. I received an email a few hours later to say the colleague couldn’t make so they will push it back to 2pm instead. Okay no problem. The next day I received another email stated their colleague couldn’t make it for 2pm so they would push it back to 3pm. The day of my appointment arrives I knock on the door nobody is there so I phoned the office to be told my appointment was 2:30!! I never received any correspondence stating that time! Eventually Megan turned up. She was professional and friendly and apologetic, but their organisation is a joke I will think twice before applying for JW Wood.
