GoogleI was a tenant in a rental property managed by Scriven & Co for just over 4 years. Communication with them was always prompt and professional, but also friendly. Any issues that arose with the property were always addressed quickly. Thank you Katie and the rest of the team.

GoogleRented with them for over a year and they are the best agency I have had the pleasure to rent from. Flat was in perfect condition when moving in and got my deposit back at the end. Even helped me install a washing machine. They're a no hassle and no nonsence agency who you can trult trust and feel at easy that you will be taken care for.
Special shoutout to Charlotte and Katie. Thanks for taking care of me!!

GoogleEmmie-Jai and all of Scriven & Co have been wonderful - 24 hours from seeing the property online, we’ve viewed the property, and put down our holding deposit! Emmie has been incredibly supportive and kept in touch with us throughout the process. I can’t recommend her and Scriven & Co enough!!!

GoogleThinking of renting with these? *AVOID*
Damp and serious mould which affected my asthma in 3 rooms (all upstairs) to be told it was lifestyle choice, utter nonsense. Like most households I occasionally aired my clothes downstairs on an airer but majority of the time I used my tumble dryer as I preferred that. I always had all windows on the latch too, so property was ventilated. I should have took this to the council but was mentally drained with it all.
I also had a bee infestation & when I reported to Scriven the staff member Jon Dunbar laughed and said ‘they are only bees’
Not only is this very rude and unprofessional but my Mom is allergic to bees so it was putting her health at risk as couldn’t have windows or doors open. Jon visited the property and placed lots of bee killer powder where they were which is illegal.
Another issue no oven for 3 weeks!!! An element had gone & the contractor they used (Chapmans) apparently couldn’t get the part! Now I do hold Scriven & Co accountable for that as why didn’t they use logic as business do & look at another alternative? No one can be without an oven for 3 weeks, I incurred financial losses & my rent wasn’t deducted due to this.
A part in the shower thermostat went & would only run boiling hot water S&C instructed a contractor but 2 months later I had a huge leak and guess what? The contractor hadn’t installed it properly!
I can confirm I only lived in this property for 14 months! I appreciate all properties face challenges but for me I am really offended by the lack of care from S&C. I have found every time an accuse has been made and they have followed protocol HOWEVER I haven’t had a sincere sorry for the unnecessary stress & inconvenience it has caused!
The one day I had enough so I visited the agency as soon as the doors opened to be greeted by a young girl at the first desk! She wasn’t on the office phone she was texting on her mobile with her head down. I then had to say quite loud excuse me can I speak to Katie. She didn’t apologise which I thought was very unfitting but I put it down to just another lack of professionalism which I was used to!
Now, considering all the issues I have had you would think the end of tenancy would be smooth?
That has caused more stress!
The blinds which the property had were very cheap & old and I went to a professional blind place as a couple broke. The owner advised me straight away that I would not be able to get those blinds as they were about 10 years old & didn’t meet safety regulations. The landlords advised me they weren’t that old & told me where they purchased them from, which I visited. The lady was very helpful & the first question I asked her was ‘how old she thought the blinds were’ she said 10 years! She also said they were seriously brittle & badly damaged. Not one of the regulations below were met by S&C
Landlord's Responsibility:
Safety Standards:
Cord Safety:
Maintenance and Repair: - landlords are responsible for this
I received a snotty email from Katie Johnson, which ignored all about the safety regulations & was more bothered about implying that one of my cats destroyed the blinds when sitting on the window sill.
Now, say if they had I paid an extra £50.00 PCM for my cats to sleep there so if there was any damage made by them, surely that’s why the extra charges are made?
They also wanted to take £50 from my deposit because a bush wasn’t cut in the back garden! Considering all the issues & health risks me & my son faced & they had the audacity to request that?
I did have to really fight for this and I had to reiterate all the problems!
Now this is a family run business & I would be embarrassed if it was being ran like this! Customer care & exceptional customer experience is so important to me but clearly not to S&C. Scriven & Co you failed massively and your core values aren’t how you conduct business!
I can imagine a reply will be sent to me but all this is factual and the truth and for anyone reading this do not give them any business they aren’t worthy of it!

GoogleWell, what can I say!. My experience with Scrivens & Co has been long. All the way through the process; Ella and the team have been there, holding my hand and pointing me in the right direction. Sellling
(getting offers) on my home was the easy bit. Getting the buyers over the finish line was the hard bit.
Then it takes a professional and experienced team to navigate the joys of the property market. Scrivens &
Co did that, they kept me upto date and steered me in the right direction. I will miss the Friday updates from Ellla.
I will never move home again. However; if I know any person out there, mad enough to do it. I will not hesitate to recommend Scrivens & Co.

GoogleWe asked Scrivens to sell my late Father's and Moms house. Mom has gone into a nursing home, so it was all very emotional. George and Ebony were so kind.
Ebony was always just a call or email away. As we do not live near Moms, Scrivens organised all viewings. They kept us updated with the progress. The only bump in the road was with the buyer but Ebony did above and beyond to make sure the sale went ahead.
There's always cheaper Estate Agents, but with our experience Scrivens we're professional, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Would we recommend Scivens? 100%

GoogleBrilliant estate agents and very smooth professional service from the start. George was very helpful with his friendliness, valuation, experience, advice, and photography, and was entirely non-pressuring. The quote was very reasonable and was paid on completion of sale. Ella took care of our solicitor and buyer liaison and was supportive, courteous and professional - we even received a Merry Christmas call on their last office day! Ella was ultimately responsible for stopping our buyer from pulling out during chain-related delays, which we are very grateful for. Our sincere thanks for selling our house in as stress-free a way as was possible, and a genuine recommendation from us to anyone to use Scriven's!

GoogleI’ve used Scriven and Co for many years and have always found them to be nothing but professional, fair, and extremely helpful. They are one of the best companies I’ve ever dealt with in property.
It’s clear from Pav’s review that he is simply upset because he wasn’t successful in buying a house and has chosen to throw his dummy out of the pram by making completely unfounded accusations. To suggest racism where there is none is not only untrue, but also deeply unhelpful as it undermines and trivialises the very real and serious instances where racism sadly does occur.
In my experience, Scriven and Co have always acted with the highest level of integrity and professionalism, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking to buy, sell, rent, or manage property.

GoogleAt the start, George was amazing and the reason we went with Scrivens. We were buying a property marketed by them as well as selling our own through them. We even started recommending them to family and friends.
As soon as prices were agreed, it's almost as if things stopped and if it wasn't for my wife chasing all concerned on an almost daily basis, we would have not gone through with the sales on account of the imminent closure of the stamp duty holiday. It felt to us that as long as the purchase was done, it didn't matter when contracts were exchanged but to us, because of the stamp duty, it would matter... massively and the chain would have fell apart as a result.
There's been no follow-up either for feedback, to see how everything is etc
As I said at the start, George is the reason for the 3, otherwise it would have easily been a 1 or a 2.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. A week or so has now passed since you left your review. During this time I have contacted your wife via email and have left a number of voicemails on her mobile without response. I’m sorry to hear you were disappointed with part of our service particularly as you were happy at the start.
I have checked all of our records, including file notes, telephone recordings and emails between parties involved in your transaction. I consider my staff acted accordingly in order to progress your sale but understand the stress you experienced and empathise with you. It was reported that June saw the all-time highest number of completed home sales as buyers like yourselves rushed to complete before the stamp duty deadline.
Your sale and onward purchase were formally agreed in March, there were four parties involved in your chain, a first time buyer at the bottom and a party moving into temporary accommodation at the top. I appreciate that the stamp duty deadline was crucial to you and far more important to you than it may have been to other parties in the chain. Completion took place 13 weeks (some 90 days) later in the middle of June, prior to the stamp duty deadline. At present average property transactions have been taking between 90-115 days from the point of a sale being agreed to completion.
As you say, your wife was chasing us on an almost daily basis from the beginning of June. She explained the importance of a completion date for your children and removal companies. We were awaiting updates from one day to the next and unfortunately there was little to pass on each time. Solicitors were very overstretched with the amount of impending completions and had to prioritise. Your wife was liaising with your solicitor direct, who like us was struggling to get updates from the solicitor below who worked part time. Your wife was also liaising with your purchaser direct as she had exchanged telephone numbers. Once all parties were believed to be ready to exchange we were advised that the first time buyer at the bottom of the chain required documents to be translated, this was out of our control.
I would welcome the opportunity to talk to you in person about this, should you wish to do so. If so, please call on 0121 506 6954. Should you not, I would like to wish you and your family the very best in your new home.
Kind regards,
George Scriven

GoogleI rarely give bad reviews but I can honestly say this company are not worth the time or effort. If you want to buy a house, there are plenty of decent agencies around. With this company, you simply sit redialling. You end up chasing and calling and following up more than anything else
You do not get one person to support you or help, you are simply passed around from pillar to post. It was only when I voiced my disappointment that I was given a senior member of staff to deal with. But even he could not deliver. They seem quite incompetent and as a result we lost out in several ways.
I would not recommend
Avoid at all costs. Only given 1 star as you have to.

Agent replied · 11 June 2024
Dear Kymi,
We were indeed surprised to read your review and before replying, we have spent time reviewing our systems and records.
After investigation it appears your review is as a result of an unsuccessful offer you made to purchase a property.
As previously relayed to you, you did not make the highest offer to purchase. Also, whilst in communication with our offices you disclosed information relating to your situation that we were obliged to relay to our client. Under our terms of business [with the client] we have an obligation to act in their interests and report such information to them. This information and the fact that your offer was not the highest were the reasons in which your offer was not accepted.
In the interests of being transparent the information that we relayed to our client was that you had “recently pulled out of another purchase” but “had not yet advised your buyer”.
You also advised that you “had offered on another property” and therefore you required “a quick decision” as you didn’t want to lose both properties.
In addition, you threatened to withdraw your offer if you didn’t get an answer (within your required timescale), and commented that you didn’t think the property was worth the asking price for a couple of reasons, with one reason being the size of the garden.
In total there were 22 telephone conversations between both parties within 6 days, all of which have been reviewed and we confirm as follows: -
You made your initial offer on Friday 21st February
On Monday 24th February you increased your offer and later that afternoon made your best and final offer.
On Tuesday 25th February we advised that our client required more time to discuss the offers with his wife.
On Wednesday 26th February we advised you of our client’s decision to decline your offer.
As part of procedures we are required to undertake due diligence on all offers so that our clients can make an informed decision. This includes checking chain details which is a process that can take time.
After reviewing our systems, we consider that you were kept informed throughout the process and that the time from when your offer was received to declined was appropriate and reasonable. Particularly as the property was only made available (on the market) a week prior to your offer and a sufficient amount of time must be allowed for all interested parties to view the property.
During our communications you commented that you had a limited window of time to contact our offices each day due to the nature of your job. It can also be difficult to contact clients, due to their work commitments. Although we endeavour to answer every telephone call first time, if members of the team are with customers or clients in reception, or even taking their lunch break, our phone system does have a voicemail facility for such circumstances. Likewise if the individual member of staff dealing with the property is out of the office at the time, a message will be taken and passed onto the individual to return a call when they are able.
During one lunch hour you contacted our offices making three calls, immediately after one another, and failed to leave a voicemail on each occasion before eventually speaking to a member of the Saturday staff. When you spoke to this representative you were advised that the person dealing with this particular property was out of the offices but we would get them to contact you on Monday (Monday 24th February).
Once again, we are sorry that you were not successful with your recent offer to purchase a property and trust this reply clarifies matters.
Where the same review appears twice we show it once. We leave out reviews that name another agent or another of the brand's offices.
