My nightmare thanks to Jackson Stops

UPDATE - thank you to the chairman of Jackson Stops for calling me. Unfortunately leaves me even more frustrated. Not willing to reimburse me for to not delivering our contract but an admission that processes will be reviewed going forward…… I employed Jackson Stops to let my home to an honest, trustworthy, professional individual. I am not a career landlord but needs must whilst I worked away and I trusted the experience of the agent and that my verbal instructions that were met with many assurances would be delivered. I went with this business as had great service when they sold my property but the sale unfortunately collapsed so I felt duty bound to give them the business on the lettings side. The organisation seemed professional and has a great reputation in the area. I was explicit in my instructions and this was met with many assurances. The tenant stopped paying rent 2 months into the tenancy and although helpful at first, Jackson Stops have turned their back on my predicament and ‘closed the file’ . The tenant was actively recommended and championed by the agent whilst others were discounted. The agent wrote he ‘expected the references to come back perfectly’ even though at that time they hadn’t been referenced. I now realise huge red flags weren’t picked up on the applications, information that only the agent had. Now I have sight after the fact, I am wondering how this ever got passed an experienced Director of the business. Perhaps due to the preconceived idea the tenant was ‘ a nice young woman ‘ and ‘perfect’ . As they got paid but didn’t achieve what we’d agreed and are wholly responsible for my financial and emotional stress, I reached out to JS to give them an opportunity to do the right thing. I asked for a gesture from them to help with the mounting costs to recover my home and was flabbergasted to a polite but firm refusal. I am now 6 months into this nightmare with only Jackson Stops ( and the non paying tenant) benefitting from the whole horrid situation. I was told by the Director responsible that Jackson Stops have never had a situation like the one I face. Perhaps this has led them to complacency and why the obvious flaws in the applications weren’t picked up. I accept JS used a third party to reference and I was privy to the ‘pass’ document but that was all we had, that and being led by the agents recommendation. Him being the only one who had met the applicant and the only one with sight of all information. In a recent conversation the director admitted he had noticed potentially fraudulent information had been given. Had he shared this knowledge, we wouldn’t have progressed. I go back to my instructions, I required an honest, trustworthy, professional tenant. There is copious information in the public domain on this individual, again that only the agent had access to at that time that suggested the risk was high my instructions and a happy outcome for their client (me) was not going to be achieved. I maintain that JS were duty bound to give me all the information, regardless of the positive reference result. Beware!! Ask questions, don’t be swayed by a ‘pass’ based on the most basic of checks and don’t allow the agents opinion to sway you as even though you expect due diligence and impartiality, this particular agent may not deliver that for you as they certainly didn’t for me.

Can't recommend highly enough

I was looking for a new estate agent April 23 for a property that I lease. After speaking with Will Jordan at the Alderley Edge branch I knew they were the right company for me. Will was friendly, knowledgeable & is always available if & when I need advice. Unlike my previous estate agent where I got passed from pillar to post & to be quite frank they had become very complacent & were not looking after my best interests. I can not recommend Jackson Stops highly enough. So if you are looking for a change I can assure you, you won't be disappointed. Nearly a year later I can still say it was the best thing I've ever done.

Outstanding Service

We left the marketing and renting of our property with Will Jordan at Jackson - Stops, Alderley Edge. Will made the whole process seamless. He was very professional and took over everything for us, but at the same time kept us informed at every stage. Brilliant service from Jackson Stops

I can recommend Jackson Stops knowing the service i have received over decades has been brilliant. The relationship with Anthony Jevons at the Jackson Stops Hale office is built on 30 years of buying and selling property through Anthony and his Jackson Stops colleagues at the Hale and Chester office. The professionalism shown by Jackson Stops has been brilliant on each property sale and purchase, and i wouldn't consider using another estate agent for a UK property. One of the properties that they sold for me near Chester via Stephen Cheshire in Jackson Stops Chester office was sold for £170,000 over the asking price, and the property they sold for my mother in February 2025 in Bowdon sold in just one day after signing up Jackson Stops to sell the property, and there were an additional 4 people due to view it the following day!!!

Jackson Stop has been absolutely brilliant

Jackson Stop has been absolutely fantastic with our move especially as this move was particularly difficult. The patience and professional attitude was very much appreciated. Anthony was always calm when things seemed to be chaotic, and Tracey would continually smile and accompany potential buyers with enthusiasm and understanding.They always showed possible buyers around the property and would return feed back from those viewings. Should l ever move again Jackson Stops would be the first estate agent l would contact for the move. A great experience from start to finish!

We purchased a house earlier this year through Jackson-Stops. Rosanna, who, was our first point of contact was exceptional throughout the whole process, from viewing until the day we completed. She was professional, kind and managed to guide us through a tricky few months and reassure both myself and my husband, with the house sale (which took much longer than anticipated). The icing on the cake was a lovely gift bag on the day we moved in, which was completely unexpected but a really nice touch. Margaret Heath at Jackson-Stops Wimbledon

I would like to commend Margaret Heath, Senior Property Manager, who for 25 years has looked after my flat in Wimbledon which has always been rented out through Jackson-Stops. Over the many years it has always been a pleasure to speak to Margaret who is very helpful and pleasant and has a great deal of experience and knowledge of matters relating to property repairs and maintenance. I rarely get involved with running the flat as Margaret does the job so well and I know the flat is in good hands which is fortunate because I currently live far away. Margaret was instrumental in arranging occasional major works such as a full renovation, redecorations and a boiler installation. Excellent property management

Jackson Stops (and it’s predecessor) has been managing our rental property for 40 years. Margaret Heath has been there almost all that time as our property manager. As we live overseas it is essential that we have reliable, efficient and comprehensive oversight of our property. Margaret has provided excellent service. Brilliant Property Management

Why use anyone else?

We bought our home in Dullingham via Jackson-Stops 5 years ago. They were so professional and a pleasure to work with then, that when we decided to sell it earlier this year we had no hesitation in using them again. From the moment they took our instruction they were first class in keeping us informed, not just from what was going on, but also liaising with our buyers, our solicitors and our purchase in keeping everyone on the same page. Every time we phoned up, no matter who we spoke to, everyone always knew everything about our file. I would, however, like to say a special mention to Samantha, who not only went out of her way to make sure that everything went through as smoothly and stress-free as possible, even on her days off, but the fact that she took time out in looking after us. She was always available if ever we needed help with anything, and nothing was ever too much trouble. Unfortunately though, since we've sold, I do miss our morning update chats on the way to work! Thank you for making it happen.

I could not have managed to purchase my home in Newmarket if it wasn't for Lottie at the Newmarket high street location.
