My husband and I put our house on the market with Richard Watkins in Radcliffe on Trent and were tied into a 14-week sole agency agreement. After 12 weeks, with no progress, we asked for our property to be removed from the market. During that time, we received no offers, very little communication, and virtually no feedback from viewings. We were never approached to discuss changing the marketing strategy, reviewing the photographs or advert, or considering any other ideas to help generate more interest. It felt as though our sale had simply been left to drift until WE had to ask what was going on and what changes could be made. Ultimately, we decided to change agents and within less than 48 hours of our property going back on the market, we had received and accepted an offer, a stark contrast!!! One of the viewers who had originally viewed our property through Richard Watkins even returned to view with our new agent. We were told that they said they had only ever received one attempted phone call asking for feedback after their original viewing, which was very disappointing to hear as Richard Watkins ensured us their approach was to ring viewers three times to gain feedback. We understand that no estate agent can guarantee a sale, and the property market can be unpredictable. However, what we do expect is regular communication, honest feedback, and a proactive approach. Sadly, that wasn’t our experience. The delays ultimately meant we missed out on purchasing what we believed would have been our forever home, making the experience even more upsetting. Before leaving this review, I contacted Richard Watkins directly to share our experience in the hope that the feedback would help improve their service. My email was honest and constructive, but unfortunately I never received a reply. Since then, I’ve spoken to other people in the village and some have shared similar experiences with the Radcliffe branch. While I can only speak for our own experience, it was disappointing to hear. It’s such a shame because Radcliffe on Trent is a close-knit community, and we genuinely felt let down. Selling your home is deeply personal, it’s not just another business transaction. We expected communication, guidance and a proactive approach throughout the process, but unfortunately that wasn’t what we received. I haven’t written this review to criticise for the sake of it or to damage anyone’s reputation. I’ve written it in the hope that honest feedback leads to positive change, so future clients receive the level of communication, guidance and support that we felt was missing. Based on our experience, I would encourage anyone considering Richard Watkins to think carefully before instructing them. If you do choose them, be prepared to chase regularly for updates rather than expecting proactive communication.

I agreed to purchase a property marketed by Richard Watkinson and was explicitly informed at the time of my offer that there was no onward chain with the sellers purchase, with an expected completion date of end of February 2026. I was also told that the sellers’ onward purchase was already built, ready to move into, and that they were even buying furniture for it, further reinforcing that there would be no delays. Based on this, I proceeded in good faith, spending over £1,000 on expedited searches and surveys to meet the proposed timeline, and making personal arrangements accordingly. However, after several months, I was informed that there was in fact a chain involved. From that point on, I was given a series of inconsistent and changing completion dates (June, then May, then August), with no clear or reliable communication. On 1st May 2026, I was finally told that the chain had collapsed entirely and the property was no longer in a position to be sold. As a direct result of relying on the information provided, I have incurred significant financial costs and have now been left without accommodation and effectively homeless. This situation suggests that Richard Watkinson either failed to properly establish the chain status at the outset or communicated inaccurate information throughout the process. I would strongly advise others to steer well clear of these agents as they are clearly incapable of providing a service which should be standard by an established estate agent

That Alistair Smith is fantastic. He is looking after my mother in law’s sale. He talks to her, he explains to her. He listens to her! Everything happens immediately and really well. Emailed him with a query at 21.45 last night. A full reply with an attachment at 21.48!!! And his staff are so can do, do do. The person to use if you actually want to sell.
