My Shared Ownership Journey, A Genuine Experience
I recently moved into a shared ownership home in Cumbria, and I wanted to share my experience because I think it is important that people hear a genuine account based on fact, rather than fiction or assumptions.
Over the last few years, I have experienced serious illness, which has meant that I now need more support from my family. Life circumstances have not always been kind to me, and at my stage in life, buying a property at full market value with a traditional mortgage simply wasn't achievable for me. The monthly costs would have been more than I could realistically afford.
I made the decision to move closer to my family so that I could have the support I need. I contacted Home Group / Persona Homes, where I was put in touch with Julie Lamport for the NorthWest
I have to say that Julie was fantastic throughout the whole process. We had several detailed conversations about my circumstances, what I needed from a property and, most importantly, where I needed to be geographically so that I could remain close to my family and have the support around me.
After those conversations, it became a waiting game to see what suitable properties would become available. It was a long wait, but in the end, it was absolutely worth it.
The move has given me a fresh start, and I genuinely believe that my mental health and overall wellbeing can only improve going forward. Yes, I still have rent to pay on the share I don't own, and I don't own the property outright, but that's my reality. Unfortunately, I am not one of the privileged few who can simply purchase a home outright, and shared ownership has given me an opportunity that otherwise may not have been available to me.
If you are considering getting onto the property ladder but don't think traditional home ownership is achievable, I would genuinely recommend having a conversation with Home Group / Persona Homes. You may be pleasantly surprised at what options could be available to you.
From my own experience, the people I dealt with were polite, supportive and informative throughout the process. For me, that support made a huge difference, and I am genuinely grateful.

I just wanted to take a moment to share some feedback about the service I’ve received from Anna. Buying a home can be an incredibly stressful and overwhelming process, but she has genuinely made it feel smooth, organised, and completely manageable from start to finish.
From day one, Anna has been patient, responsive, and consistently reassuring. No question has ever felt like too much trouble, and she’s always taken the time to explain things clearly, keep me updated, and make sure I felt supported at every step. That level of care really does make all the difference during such a big life event.
A perfect example of this was only yesterday, when I had an issue with the hot water. I messaged Anna expecting it might take a while to sort out, but she handled it immediately. Within an hour, someone was at the property fixing the problem. That kind of responsiveness is rare, and it turned what could have been a major inconvenience into nothing more than a minor hiccup.
Having someone as proactive and reliable as Anna overseeing everything has taken a huge amount of pressure off me throughout the whole process. I’m genuinely grateful for the way she’s managed things, she’s made what could easily have been a stressful time feel straightforward and even enjoyable.
She’s an absolute credit to your company, and I felt it was important to recognise the outstanding service she’s provided.

GoogleThe houses are basic and very poorly put together. Kitchens are extremely poor quality and the designers had no idea of what should be located where. Aftercare service by persona is none existent. Waited a year to get them to fix a door alignment and after 5 months of not being able to use the shower I had to get a contractor out to fix it. It was full of silicone, rubble and plastic spacers from the tiles.

Bad points are your front and rear gardens are filled with any old rocks and boulders then turf is slapped on top making it very uneven 🙈.As previous posters have said Persona Aftercare is a joke! Luckily the site manager ( top bloke ) dealt with 95% of our small issue's. Overall lovely location, lovely people and great neighbours from all over the UK 👍
