We called out three Agents to value our family home for probate, from the outset Richard stood out from the two other Agents with his knowledge and willingness to advise us on the process, over the 3 months he called monthly to check on probate and update on the market, never once did he push us or act “salesy”. When we were ready to market Hawes and Co was the obvious choice, after an open house we sat down with Richard who went through all the offers with us and who was most secure in his opinion, we had regular updates of the sales process all the way to exchange . I would gladly recommend Richard and his team to anybody looking to sell and need advice or hand holding

I purchased my flat with Hawes & Co Surbiton. My contact was Liana who was very professional, helpful and very prompt in replying to my questions. She kept me updated, which made the whole process of purchasing easy. I would highly recommend using Hawes & Co to any potential buyers.

Not transparent if not worse

2 experiences over 12 years, nothing has changed... We bought our house via Hawes & co Wimbledon 12 years ago. Visited the house on the week it was on put on the market. We made an offer during the visit. Agent told us there were 3 more offer and to come back to them with our highest offer the next week (supposedly to be fair to everybody). The next week we put our offer in by adding an extra 20k to the asking price in a supposed "sealed bid" process... except we were then told that if we were to add an extra 10k then it would be ours! We probably should have backed away but we simply stuck to our offer and we ended up winning the bid. The estate agent told us " the seller really liked you". Yeah right! Now, to their credit, the process from that point on to completion was very cordial, helpful professional. We have contacted the estate agent recently to try to visit a property as an investment but we were told visits were difficult to arrange etc. Never contacted again and the property is now sold. Inside job I presume!? I am not sure the seller got the money they deserved. Estate Agents should be regulated!

Do not work with Emil Torrens

Do not work with Emil Torrens, he is not responsive at all and dragged the whole process. This was one of the most stressful experiences I had with an agent. I do not recommend working at him at all, however, other employees in Hawes&Co seem to be nice and helpful.

Defne · 30 August 2024 · Hawes & Co Surbiton (67 Victoria Road)

Agent replied · 24 December 2024

You engaged with Emil on ‘change of sharer’ basis, whereby a tenant in a managed property would be moving out and swapping over with you. When you first engaged with Emil yourself, the landlord and outgoing tenant had already agreed this and approached Hawes & Co with this information/ request, on the 24th July, providing Emil with a proposed move date of 12th August (12 working days). Initially, as part of internal process, Emil must first advise the landlord of the cost and any risk associated with this process, as well as advising landlord and you as the prospective tenant, that there is a process that needs to be followed in which the speed of the process is heavily dependent on a number of items / variables. Emil advised that the tenant would need to be referenced, amongst another number of items that need to be completed prior to move in, by way of industry process and legislative compliance. The landlord did not agree to the charge for this service straight away, which delayed part of the process. There was also a severe delay on reference completion, as the information found during the referencing process, did not reflect the information that was initially provided by Defne and presented to the landlord before starting the process. Another key part of the process is checking the applicants right to rent in the UK, this check (by law) needs to be carried out in person, and although you had planned to start the tenancy on the 12th August, then advised during the process that you were out of the Country, and would not be able to visit our offices to conduct these checks until the 14th August, two days after the proposed move date. This further delayed the process and potential move date, as no further action could be taken on the file until your Right to Rent in the UK was confirmed. Whilst we endeavour to work as efficiently as possible on all files, Emil reiterated a number of times that there is a process, and the speed of this process is dependent on many variables that are out of Emil’s and Hawes & Co’s control. Emil advised you and the landlord that due to this; a move date with such a short lead time will likely not be possible, and this was reiterated at various different stages during the process. Whilst you were initial very frustrated by this news, later during the process, you then called our offices and apologised to Emil for your initial reaction to this news, and explained that you understood. Following move in, you have left his review, which we find not to be representative of the what took place and unfortunately have to refute the idea that Emil did not perform this service to the best of his ability, and acted as he should based on industry process and legislative requirements related to a tenant change over on an active tenancy.

From the first phone call about a property, George responded in a very personable, down to earth, but informative way. Making sure I was looked after all the way through the process and really taking time to listen, carved out Hawes and Co. as a unique company with a real interest in matching the right property to the right client. I recommend their services wholeheartedly.

Just sold our property with Hawes & Co

We just sold our first property with Hawes & Co in Surbiton and they have been fantastic. A big thank you to the whole team, especially Liana who was always keeping us up to date and extremely helpful and professional. Also, have to mention Chloe, Richard and George who have been so kind and helpful every time I have spoken to them. It’s a stressful process but they made it much more pleasant.

Unlike many others who have posted here, we had the most horrific experience with Hawes and Co. We rented a house through this agency, and have had nothing but issues with the flat as well as some of the most atrocious customer service from Katie and Tracy. Both of these people repeatedly and shamelessly lied to us, throughout the application process and tenancy itself. In every interaction we felt fobbed off, as we struggled to get both the agency and the landlord to abide by the terms in our tenancy agreement. We found Katie to be particularly difficult, where she refused or was not capable of listening and responding in a sensible or coherent manner. To those people who are currently renting with this agency, good luck to you. I hope you have a better experience than we did. If you are considering renting with them, honestly, walk on by and go somewhere else. Katie and Tracy will tell you what you want to hear, but never show any interest after that.
