Gilson Gray dealt with the sale of my parents house. Due to their incompetence and lack of correspondence this took months. The sale went through on 2nd March we received nothing till the end of May . My advice would be don't go there you will only end up highly stressed like we didRosemarie Ashwood

Buying first home - Edinburgh

Mortgage broker recommended Gilson Gray to me for help with buying first home. I had read the reviews on here and was quite hesitant about using this law firm but I assumed my mortgage broker knows better than I. The solicitor who was assigned to me, Cheryl Edgar (North Berwick branch) has been nothing short of spectacular. Due to personal circumstances, I needed to arrange date of entry asap and I had my first phone call with Cheryl on 15 March and received keys to the new home on 20 April. She has been a godsend; answered every query (and I’m aware I was quite annoying as I triple checked everything) almost immediately and even responded to emails on a Sunday! Buying a first house is very stressful and I needed my solicitor to really just hold my hand and walk me through this complicated process and I feel that Cheryl was just that. Very professional and efficient, I cannot thank her enough. So if you’re having a bad experience with this firm then try to request Cheryl as your solicitor.

They were acting on behalf of the person buying my property. Due to their incompetence I have lost way over £1,000 and been stressed out of my mind due to this so called professional firm of solicitors. I would never use this useless company on any level. I took the case to the Scottish Legal Complaints Service in Scotland, the firm offered £100 in compensation as an alternative to mediation. I turned it down, as it clearly laughable! They've ignored further correspondence from the SLCC, which to me says everything about their disregard for the system! I would say definitely GO ELSEWHERE, there are other good solicitors out there!

Dad's estate

Gilson Gray dealt with my father's estate. I started with Baillie Shepherd and GG took over soon after my dad went into hospital. We were asked for numerous things, bank details being one. My dad's will stated it was half to me and a 1/4 to each of my daughter's.My dad died in July and everything went downhill. We put his house up for sale and this should have been finalised 7th Jan. We were called into the office to say sale won't be finalised as there were myself and daughters. They needed to give bank details. My buyer paid her money on the 14th and took possession of the keys on the 15th Jan. I was under the impression the money would be in our banks the following week.It wasn't until the 11th Feb we received our money.I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone Lorraine Rae

Dundee firm

Dundee firm. Solicitor service - Quick to make a first appointment, once they have the job they are almost impossible to get a response from, or updates about the process. Service is the opposite of transparent. Property management - as a property owner - thanks to Gilson and Gray, we’ve now had Gilson and Gray buy a property in the block. Since they have been a part of the community it is almost impossible to maintain the property to the standard we are used to in the tenement. In the past all landlords and homeowners were quick to respond to solve any issues together and now since Gilson and Gray is in the block we even struggle to get simple repairs done. What is worse is that we have to run every little thing past them - and they just go ahead and drill through external walls, drill through our sewage pipes, then attempt to fix it which resulted in loose sewage pipes along our building. When we pulled them up on the unauthorised work they simply laughed at us, and eventually after chasing them up for months they found a non wobbly solution. This is more than unprofessional and I wish they had never bought a flat in our block. It used to be easy to maintain our property, but they just do whatever they want - and keep us from carrying out essential work in a timely manner. It is even difficult to get a hold of them and when you do, they speak to you in a condescending manner and are unhelpful.

We worked with Samuel at Gilson Grey. He was helpful, lovely to chat with and provided us with a positive letting experience after having weeks of no luck trying to find a place.

I have enquired about two of their properties for rent - both were immediately available (and still are), one in Oxgangs and the other is near South Gyle. But for two months, I have not managed to book a viewing or make an application based on virtual tour.Horrible service not only for tenants but for landlords too.

Excellent property management experience

We just moved into our new apartment and our property agent was Gilson Gray. I must mention that the entire process was really smooth and was professionally handled by them. Our property manager, Nomsa took care of all the essential stuffs (from documentations to tenancy agreements) , and we were able to move in within 2 weeks. I would really recommend Gilson Gray for everyone else who are looking for new property.

The worst property management…

The worst property management company….They don’t actually manage anything!Property was in perfect condition when given to coulters (now Gilson Gray) to manage 2 years ago. They did not notice light switches removed with wires visible, cracked shower housing and holes in the wall. Nobody noticed and no pictures taken of the damage, we trusted that the property was left in good order. However when my husband visited last week he was stunned. The response from Sam Paulo? Oh here is the details for the tenants, you will have to go after them for the damage….the contact details have our address. They also agreed to collect money for roof repairs which we paid, they now seem to think they paid for the same repairs, yet cannot or will not show an invoice where they have supposedly paid.I wish I could leave a no star review. And the legal team at Gilson Gray have nothing to do with lettings, even though it is the same website. Now having to go through legal channels. Gilson Gray are a complete joke.AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Worst company i have ever dealt with,i have bought and sold 5 houses and this tops the lot by a country mile, a catalogue of errors from my female "Solicitor" in the Edinburgh office and my buyer almost left homeless for the night, i received my money 24 hours after the moving date after threating to launch an investigation as she had left everything too late in the day to get anything sorted and claimed the bank had the account number wrong! she never ever gets back to you and her answer message states she is on holiday until the 8th of Aug even though its 6 weeks later.I wouldn't trust them to sell a bike on Gumtree.Do yourself a favor and choose ANYONE except this shambolic lot. I feel so sorry for anyone who is trusting them to sell their house.

Poor performance - Only want your money

Simply put - this group of “professional” people lack competence. I was assigned a trainee solicitor, who initially seemed knowledgable and helpful, but went off on holiday for 3 weeks in the month prior to my house move. With no one else assigned my case, I was left with unanswered questions and a lacklustre service. Then on her return, what can only be described as chaos ensued trying to get the loose ends tied up with 1 week left until the sale day. The senior solicitor was also then involved, who was equally as unhelpful. On the sale day they happily asked for funds, then after a few hours of waiting, asked for proof these funds had been sent. Then after another hour or so, said they didn’t request the correct amount of funds, and asked for more. Further waiting and excuses that the selling party solicitor was the cause of the delay, when in actual fact, these solicitors had not carried out the conveyancing task in the 10 week timeframe initially agreed when the offer was accepted. Eventually given the news the sale had gone through at 5pm and to go to the sellers solicitors to pick up the keys, to find the office in darkness with no one to be seen. Luckily for me at this point, a member of a different team within the sellers solicitor helped me by making enquiries and locating my keys, allowing my family to not be homeless for the night. Then we moved in and found a large number of costly issues with the house which weren’t disclosed for the sale. I reported these to Gilson Gray well within the allotted time period and both trainee and the legal director were not interested in helping. Now, 4 weeks in, and they are not answering calls or emails to get a resolution. They have taken my money for the conveyancing and are nowhere to be seen for support. Pathetic display from a “multi award winning law firm”. They have let me down and my advice to you is don't use their services to then let you down too.
