Absolutely useless estate agency

Absolutely useless estate agency. Have had 4 separate flat viewings cancelled at short notice (most of them on the day of the viewing) with no explanation whatsoever. For the one viewing that they didn't cancel the flat was an absolute tip, previous tenants had left it in a horrible state (not DJ Alexander's fault, granted) but they hadn't even bothered to clean it before holding viewings. The place stank of smoke, empty bottles everywhere and a large burn mark on the bedroom wall. When I commented on the state of the flat and asked about having the burn mark painted before moving in the agent told me "not to be too picky" and not to make too many demands as someone else would take it. They are a bunch of jokers who provide a terrible service and only get away with it because of how desperate the housing crisis in Edinburgh is. I would say avoid at all costs, but given the market I know many people simply won't have the choice

Although it took a while to secure a flat in a difficult market, the team at DJ Alexander were extremely helpful in a time that was becoming increasingly stressful. We were very impressed by the professionalism and speed at which Natalie operated, and her colleague Paul was a pleasure to deal with when viewing and eventually securing our property. It my take a while, but if you are persistent DJ Alexander will be sure to put you in a beautiful flat in a prime location. Very pleased!

Guilia Ceccarelli - What an agent!

What an agent! The renting market in Edinburgh has been bananas over the past few months my housemate and I have been looking until we came across Giulia Ceccarelli. I was unsuccessful on an application to a property but instead of just forgetting about me, she did everything afterwards to help us secure a property and did it with genuine compassion. Needless to say, she helped us find a property that ticked all our boxes and without her help I'm sure we would still be without a home - so thank you!

A Criminally Unprofessional Letting Agent

I had an abysmal experience with DJ Alexander. I rented a property via them for three years as a student. During this time there were countless issues at the property, absolutely none of which were attended to in good time, or by the timeframe given on our contract. As an example, our kitchen flooded due to a DJA-contracted plumber improperly installing a dishwasher. We notified them of the issue immediately, and it was not attended to for over a week. This was an issue that has likely caused structural damage to the house, yet DJA did nothing about it. As another, even more extreme example, a suspended kitchen cupboard collapsed due to improper fitment (proven by an independent joiner's review), and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to my personal property, and harmed me. DJA are responsible for upkeep of the property, and yet refused to take any responsibility. I ended up successfully suing the landlord, and DJA were continually opaque about facilitating communication between myself and this landlord.There were genuinely countless more examples of this over our three year tenancy.My experience with DJ Alexander was, in short, criminally unprofessional. Do not use this letting agent.

Shoutout to Paul

We had arranged to move into a flat with DJ Alexander but due to an unforeseen issue with the bathroom the flat was no longer available to move into when we needed it. Paul Hyett-Czompo was incredibly helpful in trying to resolve the situation and was able to find us a suitable alternative flat for which I was able to view on the same day. He helped us progress our application very quickly and within two days we had agree everything with the landlord and signed the lease.

They don't appear to want to rent any of the properties they're advertising. We've looked at 8 different properties. The only way to book a viewing is online. Each time you have to filled in 3 pages of information to find out that there is almost no availability to book a viewing. Usually a single 15min window some time in the next 3 weeks. For quite a few of them is no availability, even though the property is apparently available now. If you ring them up they are utterly unhelpful and rudely tell you to use the website. I don't know why anyone would chose to place their property with an agent which makes it incredibly hard to view any of the properties they are advertising.

Stonehouse is a very professional and thorough letting agency, and I felt it necessary to review them as I had 2 bad experiences with disinterested and unhelpful agencies in Aberdeen before connecting with Stonehouse. While unfortunately, at the very last moment, I decided not to proceed with my application as I delayed my decision on moving, I must say that my experience with Stonehouse was excellent. My wonderful advisor, Gill, was an absolutely lovely lady who helped me through every step of the way. As an expat moving to Scotland with a very short time period before commencing work, she really helped me a lot in terms of the speed and efficiency at which my application was processed, and the kindness she showed me, assisting me every step of the way (and I truly mean every step, I'm sure my copious amount of stressed emails were fun to deal with!). As my decision to move has been delayed for a while, I know I will definitely be back in contact with Gill (and the other very helpful lady who works in the office, Holly, and their very friendly viewing agent, Maureen!) at a later date to get the ball rolling again on an apartment. It was quite laggy so I suspect it made an api call to a server then waited for a response for every possible user input instead of handling logic via a headless form like most people would.

Bravo Giulia and Chloe

House hunting and Moving can be very stressful especially when you’re juggling work storage facilities and transport. Both Giulia and Chloe went out their way and operated way above and beyond what any other agents would normally be willing to do, to ensure my move in went perfectly. I found them both very helpful especially when they contacted the apartment owner to secure me an earlier move in date so it coincided with my days off work and also saved me a very lot of money which I would have had to pay the storage company as they insisted that any extra day storage would only be allowed if I paid for a month ( nearly 250 ).When viewing properties I found other agents were more robotic and very quick to tell me what they can’t do, Chloe and Giulia were the opposite, no robot answers to questions such as “ computer says no” and more human “ let’s see how we can make this work”. Property leasing company with NO out of hours number and a list of obsolete 'emergency' contractors to contact. Absolutely awful customer support for the tenants who are their bread and butter! I have an electrical fault and have absolutely no way to contact them. Never happened with the local company they just bought. All customer service vanished overnight If your a landlord - stay clear
