If you are a landlord, my personal opinion: AVOID

One immediate point. It's no good Foxtons replying on Trust pilot asking for 'more information so they can follow up'. I have sent them endless information - as I imagine every other frustrated customer has. Please be wary of all the positive reviews. I have my doubts as to their authenticity. This company are charming on onboarding. I have been a landlord with them for three and a half years, so I have broad experience - not just experience of the initial process as many of these reviews are. At the start, they love your 'lovely property'. They are persistent and responsive, very sweet. Nothing is too much trouble. Similarly they schmooze (and pressurise) tenants. They are very good at this. You will notice many reviews mentioning specific people and branches - that's because they ask for them. Once you're onboarded, if you have any difficulties at all, they disappear. Emails take weeks to reply to - consistently. Even emails labelled as 'complaint' are not responded to within their own policy - it took them months to get back to me about a very serious and misleading piece of information I was given that incorrectly interpreted the contract which they drew up. This nearly led to serious consequences with my tenant. If you take them on as property managers, they will take weeks to send you quotes for works to be done. The quotes, once they do arrive, will be about 50% more expensive than if you arranged the works yourself. You will already be paying extra for 'management' but there is no eye on keeping costs good value for landlords. Their quotes are so prohibitively expensive that I ended up arranging things myself and cancelling their management service - it was unusably slow and expensive. They placed unwarranted holds on tenancy deductions which meant that both myself and the tenant experienced significant stress and delay. The inventory service was absolutely rubbish - missed so much detail (even missing that a whole piece of furniture was missing!). The inventory is so important and they messed it up. They even arranged for the inventory clerk to arrive before the tenant had moved out. They really don't know what they are doing - or they are too big and impersonal to get it right. Now that the tenancy has ended I've been whacked with yet another fee that I didn't agree to. I've made repeated enquiries about this, again with no response. I'm busy now building a case to refer to the Property Ombudsman. I'm busy and really could do without this extra work. I've given Foxtons many, many thousands of pounds and I have no idea what for. I have no idea where the positive reviews have come from. I'm never using them again, and I am very glad to be free of them. I've been letting my property for 20 years and honestly - it was less hassle and SO MUCH cheaper doing it myself via OpenRent. That's where I'm returning to.

I have recently sold my flat through Foxtons Auctions and the whole process has been streamlined and professional. The were transparent and open about discussions and feedback from the outset. I received a telephone call almost daily giving me an update on the viewings of the previous day and the feedback provided by interested parties. The online platform is easy to use and you can keep up to date with feedback and potential viewings. The service I received was not corporate in fashion; it felt bespoke, and I often joked with the team that it very much felt the whole of Foxtons was working solely for my flat. I thank the whole team, but a special thank you to Anne, Antony, Bronwyn, Kieran and Mohsen. There are many estate agents across the Marylebone and Mayfair area; if it is a personal and bespoke service you require, then I strongly recommend Foxtons.

As the owner of a flat

As the owner of a flat, I struggled for months to find tenants. I tried renting it myself but mostly scammers or people who waste my time only, then worked with several agencies - including one that promised a quick result but instead damaged my flat and pressured me constantly with calls and messages, day and night. DON'T USE! As a landlord I highly recommend other tenants and landlords do NOT use Foxtons. They are providivg tenants and extremely poor service and giving landlords a bad name. Foxtons wrongly extended our tenancy end date then withheld our deposit on non payment of rent grounds. Even after acknowledging their 'error' it took 2 months for them to correct it. The money was only returned after a letter before action for a small claims court was sent. Other customers are advised to exercise extreme caution with how deposits are safeguarded.

I was spoken to quite rudely on the phone with agents pushing for an earlier viewing or just scheduling a viewing without asking for availabilities. I have told agents multiple times to stop calling me but this was not heard. I even removed my information from the portal and noted that I am no longer looking for a property. I still receive 3-4 calls a day whilst informing them that I do not want to rent through them.
