We found a maisonette in east grinstead through Mayhews. There were problems from the get go. The advert for the property was not accurate/ we put an offer in and it for accepted (on the basis of the advert).
Mayhews completed no due diligence checks on the owner and she wasn’t even on the title deeds! When we had issues Mayhews replied bluntly and Matt Allen seemed to of always been “in a bad mood”. After pulling out after the survey - as there was subsidence on the whole garden, and the people before us pulled out too- no one offered an apology or anything- we had then wasted a lot of money which could of been avoided if they were just honest.
The owner also advertised the property as “share of freehold” which we discovered was a lie when our solicitor had done the checks. Again the estate agent should have really known what they are selling and not to false advertise. Just worry for people
Going forward as the £1000 we lost for the checks and survey is a lot of money to people buying their first home- or any home. Which quite clearly didn’t matter to them.

We are very sorry you felt the experience received was less than expected, we take great pride in the service we offer and as you can see from our other reviews the vast majority are 5 stars and found the experience a good one. We go to great lengths when bringing a property to market, on this particular property the process was followed when asking our vendor to complete a property information questionnaire, this includes asking whether the property was share of freehold and the vendor stated it was. It appears our vendor made a mistake and we apologise on their behalf as we have now investigated the matter. You will recall the price was negotiated lower to take this into account which you agreed to. Our vendor did apologise as she had only owned the property for a short time and was a little confused, this was also the reason she was not on the land registry as owning the property, she does own the property as per our checks. Your survey did not mention subsidence it referred to a fence that appeared to have moved. It was at this point you withdrew from the sale. This was not brought to our clients attention when she purchased the property 12 months prior. Our client has now completed the fence work as she indicated she would. The previous buyers withdrew not because of any subsidence it was due to time scales. The property has now resold and is due to complete shortly with none of the issues you raised in your review. We are upset that you are not happy but felt we should point out the facts of this sale. We wish you all the best and hope you have now found your ideal home.

Mel helped us so much with our property search and we viewed so many beautiful properties thanks to her. Mel also put us on to the best independent mortgage advisor which has been a huge help and part of our journey the whole way. The team are so so helpful, kind, caring & considerate as sometimes we’ve had to bring our children to viewings or had to do a late afternoon / weekend appointments. What I mean by that is as the sale took longer they were encouraging, they revisited previous offers, and were very proactive in liasing with other organisations to get to completion. GoogleUnfortunately Tom has moved on and since everything has gone down hill. Really poor service, the worst experiences we’ve had with an agent. They constantly get things wrong, one gives you one story and then another says something totally different, to another part of the chain, all 3 parties involved haven’t a good word to say about them.
We gave up in the end and moved to another agent(MM). This was after they lost us our first buyer due to their incompetence. I would not recommend these, very unpleasant and definitely unprofessional, beware.
