I had a very disappointing experience with a property marketed by John D Wood & Co. Estate Agents (Wandsworth). Initially, Poppy Martin was very helpful and responsive throughout the viewing and application process, which gave us confidence in proceeding. However, after our offer was accepted, we were informed that all payments and tenancy arrangements would be handled directly by the landlord rather than the agency. This was never made clear at the outset. We had already submitted our personal and financial information to the agent, including payslips, bank statements, passports, proof of address, P60s, and our guarantor’s personal and financial details. Despite this, the landlord requested the same documents again, followed by further demands for over a year’s worth of our guarantor’s financial records, including payslips, bank statements, and P60s. We also discovered that deposits were to be paid to a business account managed by a third-party company, which had not been disclosed by the agent. When we requested evidence of their data protection compliance, we were initially provided with an expired certificate and generic documents, which further undermined our confidence. At this stage, we no longer felt comfortable sharing additional financial information. As a result, our £311 holding deposit was retained. We felt pressured into providing excessive personal data under the threat of losing our deposit. Overall, the process lacked transparency, involved repeated requests for financial and personal information, and left us feeling misled. This was a stressful and disappointing experience, and I hope future applicants are given clearer information before committing to the process.

Ellie was absolutely fantastic throughout my home buying journey. When my first property purchase fell through, I was understandably disappointed, but Ellie was incredibly supportive and helped me get straight back on track in finding the right property for me. After a few more weeks of searching, I found a flat and had an offer accepted. What followed was a long and often challenging 11 month process due to lease complications, but I’m delighted to say that I’ll finally be completing next week. Throughout the entire process, Ellie and the team were outstanding. They kept me informed every step of the way, provided regular updates, and were always on hand to answer any questions or concerns. As a first time buyer, having that level of communication, support, and reassurance made a huge difference and helped take a lot of the stress out of what can be a very daunting experience. Family Home of 80+ Years, SOLD by John D Wood & Co After more than 80 years in our family, selling our home was never going to be “just another transaction.” It mattered. A lot. Like many people, I had my misconceptions about estate agents. Those disappeared within minutes of meeting James at John D Wood & Co. Knowledgeable, sharp, professional, articulate, and refreshingly not pushy. I didn’t want to admit it at first, but after that initial visit, I already knew we’d found our agent. To be certain, I invited five other companies to value the property. I was determined to find the very best. The reality? We’d already found them. James made sure of that. From start to finish, the team, James, Ellie and Lilly, were outstanding. Communication was spot on: not overwhelming, not lacking. Every call and email was clear, concise and purposeful. No fluff. Although they were acting on behalf of the seller when I purchased my home, they were consistently professional, pragmatic and constructive throughout the process. Not all estate agents are the same. JDW are in a league of their own.

JD Wood are professional, but they go much further than just that. From the first appraisal they gave us confidence, no 'flannel 'or 'blarney. JDW made arrangements professionally and kept us in touch, always gave us feedback, they did everything you should take for granted, but so often get let down on, it's how they work. The staff we met were 'long-termers', they probably stayed for a reason, and their longevity meant they were really experienced. We were looked after by two offices and we didn't notice until Adrian mentioned he was from Parsons Green office, whilst our house was in Fulham and we'd met people from that local office. That seamlessness was important. I'd telephone for an update, whether Fulham or Parsons Green, if the person I needed wasn't there whoever else answered the phone knew our property, knew the current status, and was completely informed. Once more this is not the norm in our experience. Whilst Adrian had the buyer for us and helped this go through smoothly it is important to know that everyone we spoke to was enormously helpful and it was clearly a team effort. Everything was super professional right through exchange of contracts and leading up to completion, we were extremely happy we had gone with JDW. They're not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for and with the biggest transactions most of us do in our lives you can easily be 'penny wise, pound foolish'. We certainly had value for money. Then...... disaster strikes..... and that's where 'going a step further' than normal stunned me. We're moving, the furniture has gone in the van, and a leak springs downstairs, dripping through the ceiling. It's Thursday, we complete on Monday (legally bound to!) I called with the bad news. A calm and collected response; "Our letting team have people who do maintenance, let's see what we can do". Enter Stephen from the Fulham office (who is head of sales, actually, not lettings, but this is clearly a real 'team business'). He told me "Don't worry, I've got a guy who's going to go round, he's good, I know him, we'll sort it out". Frankly I've heard that sort of thing too many times , I was nervous. How wrong was I. The plumber did what was needed, by Saturday everything was fixed, dried out, and someone was round sanding the area of new plaster on the ceiling. I didn't lift a finger, it was all organised by JDWood. Photos of the work were sent to the new owners who were graciously happy. Now, that's going the extra distance. And we still had two days breathing space. You don't choose an estate agent because they can fix a leak. But it just shows what I mean. Up to that point they'd been the most professional folk I'd dealt with, and a really well organised team that played as a team. But then they created a new league and leapt into it. All completed well, the new owners got in and were happy. A nightmare turned into a nothing (but gratitude). JD Wood made it all happen. They went the extra mile or league or whatever it needed. Not just Adrian and Stephen, but everyone there. You will not be disappointed by JD Wood, you will be delighted. All estate agents are not the same, and JDW are the best.

John D Wood Herne Hill have been absolutely fantastic, and we cannot recommend them highly enough. The entire team, Nick, Sarah and Holleigh are genuinely lovely people who give honest, no-nonsense advice. At every stage, we felt they had our best interests at heart, whether it was helping us sell our flat or find our dream home. We had been trying to sell our flat for a year and a half with another agent. During that time, we lost three buyers, and the advice we kept receiving was simply to reduce our asking price significantly. John D Wood completely changed our experience. Not only did they help us find a home we absolutely adore, but when our sale fell through and our purchase was at risk, they stepped in and quite literally saved it. I was looking for a tenant for my house at 30 Orville Road in Battersea and contacted J D Wood on Battersea Park Road. I dealt with Joshua Mugume and received an excellent service. He is extremely professional and really knows the rental market around Battersea. While the tenant that he found did ultimately not proceed with renting my property, Joshua went out of his way to inform me about progress at all times and continued to search for a suitable tenant for me. As I am only looking for short term or corporate tenants, the market situation for such rentals was not favourable at the beginning of the year but I shall continue to work with Joshua again in the future to secure a tenant. I can highly recommend Joshua’s professional assistance, he is a breath of fresh air and while this may not be relevant, he is one of the best dress estate agents I have worked with in years!

I had a super positive experience with John D Wood Chiswick during a recent, very stressful search for a new flat. Georgia was cheerful and switched on, always on the ball with new properties, following up, sending floor plans and videos, and answering all questions I had on the properties. John D Wood in Beckenham have been amazing from beginning to the end. We have had to sell our family home which has been very hard and they have been so kind, supportive and always in our corner. The first phone call with Lily and then the first meeting with Lauren and Lily was so energetic and positive. They are all super efficient, organised, professional and fun. I must also mention Kirsty who is so organised, kind and supportive.
