I used Barnard Marcus a few months ago to sell my house. From the moment that the house was valued I knew that I was going to use them. They arranged an open day and sold the property in one day ! My tenancy ended on 31 August. It has been over 3 months and Barnard Marcus Sutton still hasn’t returned my deposit - £2,190.00 The landlord himself confirmed on 2 September that there were no arrears and instructed them to release the deposit. Instead of doing their job, they dragged me through their “arrears team” and wasted almost a month because of their broken internal systems. I have always paid rent on or before the due date. After endless chasing, even their own arrears team confirmed on 2nd October that there are no arrears. And then? Silence. No replies, no action, nothing. I had to escalate to TDS, who reviewed the case and ruled in my favour, full refund with no deductions. It has now been 11 days after the TDS resolution, and Barnard Marcus Sutton STILL hasn’t transferred the deposit. The landlord wanted to return the deposit from day one, the delays were 100% caused by Barnard Marcus’s incompetent systems and broken customer service. If you value your time, sanity, or basic fairness, stay far away from Barnard Marcus Sutton.

Excellent service. I worked with Elliot and Nic in the Sutton office to sell our property and buy our new house, knowing we had some issues (it wasn't their fault). My father recently sold his property through Barnard Marcus in Sutton, and they were an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to end. In particular, branch manager Elliot Williams and senior negotiator Alex Nelson, who were incredibly helpful and supportive throughout the process. There were some unfortunate delays with my father's onward purchase in the chain, and the guys at Barnard Marcus were always instrumental in reassuring my father's buyer and generally keeping things on track and moving forward. I’ve given 3 stars because I have two separate reviews on the services that I received from Bernard Marcus. Review 1 - mortgage broker Harvey smith - 5 stars!!! I have no clue about mortgages and when I told him this, he made it so easy to understand without being patronising. The whole way through the buying and selling process he kept in touch with me and gave me updates. When I found properties that I wanted to put offers on, he gave me advice on where to start. I really am grateful for his support and would highly recommend!!!! Review 2 - selling process. 3 stars When I first put my property up, a lovely lady called wintanna helped me. She viewed my flat and gave me an evaluation. She was very supportive and gave regular contact. However, once I had accepted an offer, I had no contact from Bernard Marcus at all really. I later found out a lady in new Malden was now dealing with my case, and to be honest, when I eventually got hold of her, I found her pretty rude. She didn’t reply to emails, on the planned day of exchange I heard nothing from her. On completion I heard nothing from her. When I emailed I had no reply. And from someone who has never sold a property before, i had no idea what to expect. I had more contact with the estate agent who I was buying from than I did the people I was paying. At a couple of points I did question what I was paying so much money for. I understand estate agents are very busy, but we do pay a lot of money so I expected a bit more contact! Even a check in email would have gone along way! So no, I wouldn’t recommend. I would probably go with a smaller company who can be a bit more personal!
