I had a great experience with Martin & Co Sunderland. The team, especially Sara and Tracey, managed the purchasing process smoothly and kept me updated throughout, often chasing delays to speed things up. Despite a lengthy and challenging purchase, their fantastic communication and excellent customer care made all the difference. From the initial valuation to exchanging keys, they remained professional and supportive. Even during the sale of my previous home under difficult circumstances, they were respectful and considerate. Overall, I would highly recommend their services for their dedication and professionalism. Four stars!

Lived in a property ‘managed’ by Martin and Co for 9 months now, had a broken boiler the day we moved in reported it the next day after the boiler only got fixed in March so we were 6 months without a working boiler with no working hot water or heating over the winter months too, there was an electrical fault what was noticed by the electric company which led to us having a £1,300 electric bill which then Martin and Co refused to sort. Still not sorted after 9/10 months into the property, I’ve asked to speak to the owners of the branch Juli & Cris for 9 month still never heard from them yet! None of them have a clue or know any laws behind the business! STAY AWAY FROM THEM THE STRESS AND ANXIETY THIS HAS PUT ME THROUGH THE LAST 9 MONTH IS UNBELIEVABLE! and then to top it off this is the mes we’ve been left with ...

Used Martin and Co to sell my flat based on the fact they had sold my neighbours not long before. Dealt with Lisa Ridley who is very good; professional and good with her comms throughout. Overall the sale went well, the only slight issue was an important element which was not known by the Estate Agent which could have been a show stopper although fortunately wasn't. Overall a good experience thanks.

This organisation in my opinion is nothing short of a sham. Throughout the life of the agreement didn’t uphold their own tenancy - left us without a working toilet/bathroom for almost a week with sewerage filling the yard, took an age to respond, just one example. Their ‘emergency’ number is never switched on - good luck with that. Then at the end they try and withhold a deposit without giving a reason why. Try to ask and the staff ignore your calls and your emails, are unprofessional, rude, deceitful and don’t uphold even a low level of standards. The company director Juli doesn’t even know the law surrounding her own business. It’s laughable really. Signed up to the property ombudsman but refuse to allow you to complain, and do not provide you with a response as mandated by TPOS... Why even advertise this on your shop window? The staff have also rated this page 5* to try and boost their google reviews, that’s false. Just read some of the actual detail. Avoid this company like the plague. God awful, likely be taking legal action against the landlord if their ignorance continues.

We had a horrendous time with these people. I have no idea how they sleep at night. We were due to move into a property & had everything ready to go. They insisted we paid our deposit & first months rent so the move in could go ahead. They left the inspection of the property until the day before we were due to move in. When we went to measure for our wardrobes whilst they inspected. The house was in a state of disrepair & needed a lot done to it to be anywhere near ready for new tenants! I have more than 100 photos of the property. We were left in the lurch with new furniture waiting to be delivered, friends & family storing our belongings. Our phone calls were rarely responded to as were our emails. We wanted to know when we could expect to move in as did the shops holding our furniture & the other people being inconvenienced by Martin & Co. Then I get a phone call from Juli the franchise owner blaming us for the delay!! I still can not believe that she would dare to say that considering we had waited with virtually no updates. Adele an employee asked us to move in & hire a machine to clean the carpets ourselves & have my Dad refit a door that had fallen off. Not to mention the rising damp that they hadn’t made us aware of, the leak in the living room & the problem with the chimney not being safe. Cutting a long & horrific story short. We didn’t move in as the stress was horrific as was the state of the property. We waited months to get our deposit back & we never have received the months rent that they took from us as well as admin fees. We were newly married with huge expenses due to my husband being from America. This branch of Martin & Co & specifically its owners, caused us no end of stress & hardship. I most definitely wouldn’t recommend them & we will be taking this matter further. Shameful behaviour. I couldn’t & wouldn’t do what they did to us, to anyone!

Really impressed. I used them to sell a property in Sunderland that most estate agencies dismissed, and wanted to list it, not even to conventional buyers, but as an auction at less than half what I had in mind! Martin & Co are well placed however. They are located in a virtual nest with a few other agencies in town, so together they pool in more foot traffic as people looking at houses can walk from a competitor then to them. In addition to that they go old school, with professional photos and a floor plan and build in all needed information. They also use local knowledge so can determine the true value and potential to both make a strong case for sales, and give an accurate insight into the value they expect for the place. Plus with their online advertising they proved other agencies wrong with regular viewing enquiries to see the place. My place got sold 3 times!! After the 2nd time there was a break in, and squatters came and trashed the place badly. Sara helped me get someone round fast, same afternoon to re-secure the place to avoid a further break in! And a window repair was organised. On top of that, I thought that at this stage after last buyer cancelled it was a tough situation. I believed in the property but it was had for me to manage remotely, and unless someone is on hand then it is exposed now to further vandalism so any buyer could just flex a negotiating muscle. I didn't want to drop my price further but I was struggling to manage. I believe in sales though that the right person will pay the right money, because what you offer will be of value but only to the person who wants that exact thing. This agency proved it. Sara justified the value to a buyer who saw the potential, I lost a few of thousand off my ideal price but that was small based on the months I would take to organise and manage and source and get built back to its previous state, cost aside for builders! So in summary, they are professional with good links to local trades for emergencies, and have a strong local knowledge so they can give a real insight and sell well rather than other agencies out there who just want to sell cheap as they are unable to justify value.

Worst letting agency I’ve ever dealt with. Never deals with issues, communication is non existent and all you get is “we’ll contact you back”, but they never do. Reported losing my key and I have never received a replacement one in 10 months (thank God for the lovely neighbours who allowed me to copy theirs). Moved out of the property 3 months ago and I have still not received my deposit back. Now they’re claiming £330 for 2 keys lost by Royal Mail that I’ve sent to them.

I have dealt with both the lettings and sales departments at Martin & Co. I was very happy with the sales side and found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. I would recommend them highly. However, I would not recommend the lettings department as I found their invoices to be confusing, money was kept back on occasion and I had to call them for an explanation. Calls were often not returned and it took me weeks to get some money back that I was owed. They seemed to be more interested in keeping the tenant happy rather than the customer who was paying them.

Sara was amazing from Martin & co , from the viewing of the property, right through all the different stages of purchasing our lovely new home, she was in contact with us all the time . We found her so helpful and even when we had problems and having a good moan she helped us through and guided us in a very professional manner, nothing was too much trouble for her . Sara was the person who was in contact with us , but we also met Chris a few times at the property when we need to view it again , he was also very helpful and professional every time we had any questions . We would highly recommend Martin & co Sunderland , all the staff we dealt with were very professional and polite and helpful.

Recently rented a property via Martin & Co and I couldn't fault them. The Sunderland team have been amazing. We moved out of a property and moved into a property under management of Martin & Co, the situation could have easily became rather confusing and difficult however the staff particularly Sarah and Regan were amazing. Very professional and friendly, Sarah went out of her way to accommodate us and ensure we knew what was going on. We were kept up to date on all stages and moved into our new home within a week of our first viewing. I would highly recommend using Martin & Co, they are most definitely the best estate agent we have ever used.
