I recently rented a property via Haart. Overall it was a mainly positive experience, but it wasn't without some minor issues, although I was provided with help with most of this. There was a hold up with referencing my guarantor, and also ended up paying a different deposit than expected. I probably spoke to everyone, and they were all really polite. I do have to say a big thank you to Rebecca Smith, who was the main person who answered the phone when I called and managed my meltdowns in a very kind manner.

Really terrible service, we chased and chased on our move in day until we finally were able to get hold of someone to give us our keys. Upon arriving into the property, the house was in a very dirty state, I wouldn’t even be able to put my pet there. We were told the house was repainted and cleaned, this was a lie. We were completely mislead. They were very great with communication up until they received the deposit and rent payment, now that things are not what it looks like, all of a sudden the communication is poor!!

I have radically changed my opinion of Larissa Goodchild following my experience with Haart. Before beginning the referencing process, it should have been made absolutely clear that a failed reference could result in the loss of my holding deposit, in my case, one week’s rent, amounting to several hundred pounds. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened. I have worked as an IT contractor for nearly 20 years. I returned to the UK last summer after working in the Netherlands, where I was working as an IT professional. In January, I moved to an outside‑IR35 role. However, the referencing company concluded, based solely on the outside IR35 role, that I had not been working for myself for at least 12 months. Complicating matters further, prior to returning to the UK I had an 18‑month period of unemployment. On the reference form, I stated that I had been contracting for five years, genuinely believing this would not present an issue given my long career history. Larissa later implied that I had been dishonest, and on that basis stated I had no entitlement to the return of my holding deposit. The entire process made me feel as though I was being treated like a dishonest individual rather than a long‑standing professional whose circumstances were misunderstood. As a result of this experience, I will never deal with Haart again.
