Very disappointing and stressful experience with Mart & Co. When we moved into the flat, it looked like it had been recently renewed, but in reality the flat was very old and had many underlying problems. Several walls had clear water damage and a lot of mould, which made the living conditions very uncomfortable and unhealthy. When we reported the mould problem, we were repeatedly told that it was our responsibility and not the landlord’s issue. This was very frustrating because the mould was clearly related to the condition of the flat. There was also an ongoing electricity problem in the flat. When someone was sent to check it, he told us that this was an old problem with the property and that it might never be properly fixed. Despite this, we had to live with the issue and struggled for 8 months. My husband always tried to cooperate and followed everything the agency asked us to do. However, whenever there was a problem, we were blamed for it. Even when the issue was clearly related to the property itself, we were told it was our fault. When we tried to explain, they would say we should have reported it earlier. At the end of the tenancy, instead of acknowledging the issues in the property, they started pointing out very small things and blaming us for them. This made the whole experience even more frustrating. I have never written a review before, but this experience was extremely stressful and disappointing. I strongly advise others to be very careful before renting through Mart & Co.

We used Martin & Co to sell our home and the process was smooth from start to finish. Claire came out to carry out a valuation and explained the process clearly and outlined any costs upfront. Claire was extremely professional and friendly and got the ball rolling quickly. Once the house was listed, we were handed over to Gill to manage the transaction and I can't say thanks enough. Gill stayed in touch constantly to let us know of any updates or queries and again, although sometimes I can imagine under pressure, acted very professionally, effectively and without any issues. Using Martin and Co to sell our home, as first time sellers, took a huge amount of stress off our shoulders and I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you so much for all of your help in getting us moved as smoothly and efficiently as you possibly could.

If you’re thinking of renting from Martin and Co please don’t! Customer service is terrible especially Sue who needs Customer Service Training she is so rude and comes over in a verbally aggressive way. Emma was the exception to the rule very helpful. We had to fight tooth and nail to get our deposit back after 5 1/2 weeks after putting in a formal complaint, the house was left in a cleaner tidier way than when we moved in it was filthy, it was professionally cleaned when we moved out yet Martin and Co’s EXTERNAL end of tenancy contractors went in as if it was a Forensic Crime-scene zooming in on minuscule grouting that was wear and tear and other ridiculous details in an attempt to knock money off our deposit, we were not allowed to meet them at check out which it states in our contract we should have been allowed to. They informed us of date and time of 6 monthly house inspections instead of ringing to arrange them then, they get rude on the phone when having to rearrange due to work commitments. They never follow up on repairs that have never been done they just don’t care. We have rented from two Estate Agents before Martin and Co and got our deposits back within a week. Our Landlord is now selling the property and is selling it with another Estate Agent says it really.

Up until the end of our tenancy, our experience with Martin&Co was positive and problem-free. Communication was good and there were no issues raised during the tenancy. Unfortunately, the situation changed completely once we moved out. After returning all keys at the end of the tenancy, we were falsely accused of re-entering the property and trespassing, no evidence was provided to support this serious allegation. Despite this, we were told the locks had been changed and that the cost would be charged to us. This is particularly concerning given that: • The property was under the exclusive control of the agent/landlord after keys were returned • The agent contacted me on 3 January asking where back door keys were (left in property), confirming agent access after the tenancy ended • The landlord and agent accessed the property prior to the check-out inspection which was conducted by a third party • We hold dated cleaner photographs and a final video showing the condition of the property at move-out To accuse former tenants of trespass without proof is unacceptable and extremely distressing. This could and should have been handled professionally. I would strongly advise anyone renting through Martin&Co to document everything carefully and be prepared to challenge claims made at the end of a tenancy.
