GoogleTerrible agency. When viewing the property, the agent had hardly any clue of the property and was very un helpful with any queries we had. We actually ended up deciding to take the property and while I'm the phone to the agency, I confirmed if we definitely had the property. They told us it was definitely ours and I would be emailed a registration form which we sent back, completed, the same day. I went on to quit my job and start planning the move to Portsmouth. After a couple of days I had heard nothing but it being a weekend I thought I would hear something Monday. By Tuesday I hadn't heard anything so I rung New Era just to be told that they had given our property to someone else who was ready to move in. I asked for more explanation and to speak with Justine who was the agent that we had been dealing with. I was told she was out and she would get in contact with us. I sent her several emails and had no contact back what so ever. A real let down as I was all ready to move in to what would have been a nice flat for me and my girlfriend. Glad I haven't had to deal with this agency now if this is the way they deal with their customers.

GoogleWe rented a house through New Era for three years (initially on a 6 month tenancy, thereafter rolling onto a statutory periodic tenancy).
In person we found the individuals we dealt with (David & Sherrie) very friendly, approachable and helpful.
The house was generally dirty and uncared for when we moved in (although I would tend to place the blame for this on an absentee landlord who clearly wasn’t willing to properly invest in maintaining the property): we even found that the boiler was full of mouse droppings when a repairman visited to undertake some work on it a couple of weeks after we moved in.
Moving out was not a pain free experience: they placed a spurious claim for an extra £75 in check out fees on our deposit (the tenancy agreement stipulated £100 which we paid without issue). We disputed this (highlighting the relevant paragraphs in our contract), and the DPS Dispute Resolution Service found in our favour. The process took seven months due to the tardiness of New Era in replying to our response to their claim. It is hard to escape the suspicion that this may have been deliberate, and that part of how they operate is to assume that former tenants will give up, forget or miss deadlines if they drag the process out long enough.
In summary, whilst friendly (& clearly employing at least a couple of decent people) I would be wary of dealing with them as there appears to be avariciousness underlying the business. If you do have to rent a property through them make sure you document the process fully, take photos when you move in and out (the inventory document we received was clearly a recycled one from a tenancy or two prior that bore little resemblance to reality in some areas like the garden) and ensure you keep all communications and documentation associated with the property stored safely until your tenancy is finished and deposit return secured.

GoogleThis is to help anyone (especially students) who is thinking of renting a house with this agency. (READ THEIR CONTRACT THOROUGHLY BEFORE SIGNING)
They were friendly at first but at times condescending especially regarding where our backgrounds were. In their contract are really silly statements such as not providing kitchen appliances (even though t states the house is fully furnished). They also don't provide locks for students which is essential for majority of students. There are many unnecessary fees and are very secretive. Please be aware of new era agency.

GoogleI rented from New Era a couple of years ago as a student. They were consistently patronizing both via telephone and in the office, and left myself and two other housemates with no functioning boiler for nearly a week in winter. I wish I'd had the confidence to pursue it further, but as a young student I lacked confidence, and I feel they took advantage of myself and my fellow tenants in this respect.
They carried out quarterly inspections - which while I think is excessive, I of course understand have to be done - however these were also harsh, making us feel our house was 'dirty'. We lived in our house for two years - it certainly wasn't spotless, but it was by no means dirty, and when they'd spoken to us like children on the phone and left us without heating in the middle of winter, we certainly weren't inclined to clean the house top to bottom for an inspection months before we'd actually be vacating the property.
We were not treated with respect while with New Era and, having recently used another agency in the area that couldn't do enough for us, I feel now is the time to review New Era and advise others to avoid them. Renting does not have to be a difficult experience, there are other agencies that are far better.

GooglePlease do not use this company. They are very nice initially but this soon changes. Never had so many problems with a housing agency,
After 3 months the staff that I have spoke to became very rude and would not co-operate with any work required with the property. Any work (including heating issues) took at least 3 days to arrange.
The agent involved in my rented property has been patronizing, shouted down the phone at me and threatened I could be evicted. They will do anything to avoid fixing issues with a property they manage.
There are much better agencies/ landlords in Portsmouth. I really hope people read these reviews before using New Era Agency, please consider this before renting from them, no matter how 'nice' the property and staff may initially appear.

GoogleDisgusting service! Extremely rude! The way I have been treated has really upset me. I am a single mum & I run my own successful company. When I mentioned my son, In the some what rude examination of eligablity, I was laughed at. Without firstly collecting the information of my income. As if I couldn't possibly be able to afford the £700 a month rental.
SO TO ASSUME I AM A UNEMPLOYED/SINGLE MOTHER/WITH NO MONEY. Is one offensive & 2 no further from the truth. Terrible customer service, terrible attitude & I expect an apology from the representative.

GoogleDisgraceful agency, when we moved into the house it was well below standard and when we moved out they took our deposits when the house was in much better condition as we left. Would recommend steering way clear.

Ah.. this is Mr report a property as damp after not reporting a radiator leak. Mr we have fly problems after filling the house with empty beer cans, wine bottles, food stuff. And I thank you for your review. Please if you read this and are interested, come to the office and view the photos of how we provided this house, the redecoration all the way through the ground floor then, see the photos of what they gave it back including broken furniture etc. Then, ask is this a fair review.
Seriously, did you think we wouldn't have noticed?

Thank you for not listening to advice and ignoring the majority of the instructions on what to do to get your deposit back. Correct. if you need a house. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Google1 month after moving out I am still awaiting my deposit - all attempts to contact the agent managing our property have been ignored

As we are in dispute with you regarding the Condition you returned the property to us, it's down to the deposit protection arbitration panel to review our photos and report to determine if it is excusable to place festering waste on the street, insense sticks jammed into window gaskets burning the double glazing, limscale, dirt, grease, broken furniture etc. When they have reviewed this evidence and read the emails recently sent to us claiming "It was like it when we got there" then upon their decision, deposit monies will be returned. I hope this proves helpful.

Whilst I notice the similarity in the colour of our office Sign, We have no relation to the company M'Colls.
Also, after research, I note this shop in the picture is in Milton. We are in Southsea.
I don't understand this review.

Covering the extractor fan contributing to the bathroom to go black with mould.
Pleas note if reading this, the new tenants are enjoying the property plus its worthwhile noting that your deposit was paid to the landlord via the protection service which we have NO control over.
