This has been, by far, the worst experience I have ever had with any estate agent or property management company in my life. From the start, they were constantly calling me nonstop trying to carry out random checks on the house while I was living there and paying rent. It felt intrusive, excessive, and completely unnecessary. The situation became even worse while I was on holiday. They called me to complain that my belongings were still in the property despite the fact that I was a paying tenant and still actively living there. Completely ridiculous. Then I lost the front door key and asked to have a replacement cut. They refused to let me simply cut a new key myself and instead made me wait from Saturday until Monday. During that time, I was locked out and had to sleep on a friend’s sofa for two nights. When Monday finally came, just before they closed, they handed me a replacement key and charged me £114 for a single key that likely cost around £5 to cut. When questioned, they smirked and said the rest was “for their time.” To make matters even worse, when I returned home, the key did not even work. It would not go into the front door lock at all. After already being locked out for days, I tried calling them immediately, but their office was shut and they ignored emails. Utterly incompetent, unprofessional, and unbelievably disrespectful treatment of tenants. I have never experienced service this poor in my life. I would strongly advise others to think very carefully before dealing with Harrington Brown.

I had a very disappointing experience with this agency. My sales appointment was cancelled at the last minute, just two hours before the scheduled meeting, after I had already driven over an hour to prepare the property. The reason given was based on an incorrect accusation about fees from years ago. In reality, the agent had already taken her fees directly from the tenant’s rent/deposit during my first tenancy. When the property was relisted months later and I sourced my own tenant after the agency struggled to find one, she still demanded additional fees, and it appears she has held this against us ever since. Cancelling a pre-arranged sales appointment over something so petty and unrelated to the current sale is extremely unprofessional. I would recommend choosing a more reliable and respectful local agent instead, such as JWW or Sylvester, who actually understand the market and treat clients properly.
