I have been dealing with Sheffield City Living for 15 consecutive years! First as a tenant, then as a landlord. I have always found them helpful and professional, can’t think of a major issue over all this time. Special thanks to Jonathan and Paul for their continued support, responsive, trustworthy, and genuinely pleasant to deal with. Their local expertise and personal approach make all the difference. Highly recommended whether you're renting, buying, or letting.

My experience with Sheffield City Living has been great. Jonathan was great when I first went for the viewing, very professional and friendly, making the whole process smooth from the start. Since moving in, Paul has been an amazing property manager. He’s always kind, patient, and quick to help with any issues, making sure everything is handled with the landlord. I truly appreciate their support. Thank you!

My father and I were in desperate need of an apartment as we are relocating, I was first approached with a lax ‘I’m doing you a favour attitude’ when trying to get in contact. They then booked us for a viewing (saying it was mandatory and not saying that others had previously viewed and put in an offer) then cancelled the day before after we had already booked a £74 ticket. Unfathomable is an understatement.

Agent replied · 24 August 2024

Hi Jaime, We receive many enquiries for every property we advertise to rent. We would not be doing our job correctly if we didn't take steps to make sure we selected the most suitable tenant for each property and one of the best ways to do this is to ensure that all parties applying for a property have viewed the property in person. I am sorry if it wasn't explained clearly to you before you booked your train tickets that if an application was accepted prior to your viewing we would need to cancel your appointment. I understand you were offered a viewing of a different apartment that was coming available in the same development but you declined. I do hope you manage to find a suitable property in the near future.

Sheffield City Living, LITERALLY THE WORST RENTAL AGENCY IN SHEFFIELD. I used to rent with them last year and they were nothing but unsupportive. The rental unit I was paying for and residing in had an attempted break in. I was living by myself, and God was I scared! I had no where to go but to live with my friends. Not only did they not help me in my terrible situation, they dismissed my feelings and everything I said about the break-in. Which led to an emotional impact on my mental health and wellbeing. While looking for a tenant to take over my contract, they told me they finally found someone 4 months after the incident. I was asked to remove all my items within 24-48 hours from the property, which I did so within a day. The next morning after I received the email they told me that the person has not signed the contract yet and I am still liable to pay rent (then why did you ask me to remove my items from the property with such short notice?) 2 weeks later, I hired a lawyer and sent a letter from the lawyer’s office. Once that was sent, the next morning they had found a tenant! What a coincidence! Being a woman living by herself, they thought they could take advantage of my situation, but until I hired a lawyer they didn’t find someone to vacate the property (cause frankly for them, they were still getting paid through the monthly payments I was still paying, despite not living there). I am writing this review, in order to help people so that they don’t have to go through what I went through with them. If you can, please opt for another agency. Reply - I know what a knock is and what a break in is, someone tried opening my door aggressively. Again, you weren’t there were you? As I mentioned earlier, your agency didn’t believe me. This is a pathetic effort on your part to downplay what happened. Anyways, I am being honest in my reviews, to ensure the safety of others.

Kareena · 26 February 2024

Agent replied · 24 August 2024

Hi Kareena, Great to hear from you again. As I advised previously someone knocking on your door is not an attempted break in and if you felt it was you should contact the police. I do hope you are happier in your new home.

I've come across several solicitors/estate agents etc in my 4yr experience investing in properties, & I can wholeheartedly confirm that “Sheffield City Living Estate Agents” are up there with one of the worst I have ever had to transact with. They have no interest whatsoever in addressing buyers concerns, but a strong bias towards their client (seller) by purposely withholding information, misleading the buyer to progress with the purchase until the sale has completed, at which point any issues realised would now be at buyer’s expense. On the 18th Nov 2022, I attended a viewing for a property advertised for sale by “Sheffield City Living” and met their staff “Jonathan” who showed me around the property. The property was ideal for what I wanted, my only concern was that several internal doors in the apartment (most importantly the balcony door had locks but no keys present, when I walked into the balcony, I immediately realised there were no barriers between my balcony & the next-door neighbour’s prompting me to ask Jonathan if the keys (most importantly) for the balcony would be provided. His response was positive. (This was the initial viewing prior to an offer being made so I did not require a definite or specific response) On the 12th May 2023, I received a copy of the (“fittings and contents form and the Leasehold information form) from my solicitors in which they stated that if I wish to raise any enquiries about anything contained in these, I should let them know prior to completion. I booked a second viewing & attended on the 14th June 2023 & met Jonathan again however this time, I spent more time viewing the apartment, examining all details to ensure all fittings & contents were provided as stated. Again the main discussion was the close proximity of the 2 balconies, a person in any of the balconies (if they wanted to) can leap over & access the next apartment if the balcony door was unlocked, & it is important for my tenants/guests to feel safe knowing they have the option to lock the balcony door if needed so I specifically asked Jonathan again if the keys for the balcony doors will be provided, & Jonathan replied “Yes” they will be provided. Friday 7 July 2023, I went into the Sheffield City living Office to collect the keys and left with a “fob” and 2 different keys. One key opened the apartment entrance door (no spares) & the second key did not open/lock or belong to any door in the apartment. I contacted Jonathan on Monday 10 July 2023 to let him know the second key did not open/lock any of the doors in the apartment & expected him to say “there was a mix-up, but instead he was going to check with his client (After 9 months of incorporating the property into their selling literature). I had to contact Jonathan again on the 11th July 2023 about the keys as he did not get back to me as promised. At which point I found out there was no key for neither the balcony door nor any of the other locks in the apartment. When I confronted Jonathan about being misled, his response was I quote: “As I said, you would have to go back through the solicitor. The property has completed and we no longer have anything to do with it as our job is over.” The most basic expectation of a “competent” Estate Agent is “honesty & transparency”, but as a result of their deceit, I’ve had to forfeit £132 to have the locks replaced in addition to the large amount already invested in the purchase. I lodged a formal complaint with their internal team to bring to light expenses incurred as a result of being misled by their staff & the key message I extracted from their response was: “Jonathan assures me he would not have made any commitment about which keys would be provided as this is outside of our control.” Was it outside of their control to simply ask the vendor (their client) prior to completion if the keys for the internal locks were provided or not? I will advise any aspiring property investor who finds themselves having to transact with this Estate agent to ensure all communications are documented or pay the price!

Levi · 25 August 2023

Agent replied · 24 August 2024

Hi Levi, I am sorry you are still so unhappy over the missing balcony key. We spent a considerable amount of time investigating your complaint as well as going back and forth with the client trying to obtain additional keys. We did advise you that items such as this - if so important to you - should have been addressed via solicitors prior to completion in the usual manner.

My experience with Sheffield City Living has always been great. Jonathan, Paul & Team always very responsive and quick to handle any requests thrown at them! Extremely professional and friendly, ensuring everything is handled with the landlord smoothly and with clear communication. When a washing machine and oven required swapping out they managed this with a very fast turnaround. Their Portal for raising calls is also very user-friendly. Keep up the good work - Thank you!

I have recently sold a flat using Jonathan's services at Sheffield City Living. Throughout the process of selling, I have felt in experienced and safe hands. Jonathan found a buyer for the property quickly, and helped me to get a good sale price. Unfortunately for reasons out of our control, the sale dragged on for several months (cladding issues...!). Over this time, Jonathan worked tirelessly to chase answers for us regarding the cladding - despite this not being his responsibility. He kept the buyer interested and reassured at all times - as well as calming me down at several points! He was easy to reach on the phone and emails were always quickly responded to. Whilst he was on leave, he left me in contact with his colleague Tracey who was just as reliable and quick to respond - despite only taking over my property for a week. Originally I listed the property with an alternative agency, but found them to be slow, unresponsive and unmotivated to sell the flat. The difference between them and Sheffield City Living was vast. I have no hesitation in recommending using Sheffield City Living. Thank you Jonathan, Tracey and everyone else for your hard work and for getting my property sold.PositiveResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism, Value

I would give 0 stars if it would let me. AVOID SHEFFIELD CITY LIVING LIKE THE PLAGUE. And do not be fooled by the unfair and unenforceable terms in their contracts. Throughout our 12 months with SCL we have been let down time and time again. Our flat had a rodent issue, which we were told was our fault. The email following our maintenance report stated “Rodents are all around us including in apartment block… the way to keep them out of your apartment is not to leave anything such as open foods, food debris etc. and make sure bins are closed and taken to the communal bins on a regular basis…If you wish to instruct a pest control company, please feel free to do so but it will be at your cost.” And was repeated in not quite so nice terms when we phoned them up - stating the flat MUST be dirty if we had a rodent and this was our fault. However on both of the flat inspections they made remarks as to how clean and well kept the flat was? As the end of the fixed term approached we asked if the contract could continue rolling month by month. SCL took over two weeks to come back with us on a decision here, and then asked for an increase of £75 a month. We got back to them after 8 days, giving 20 days notice we would leave at the end of the fixed term. SCL refused to provide us a check out appointment and would not let us leave at the end of the fixed term. We handed the keys in before the expiration date of our contract. They then TOLD us we were now in a periodic contract (what?!?!) and would keep our keys “for safe keeping” - we could go and collect them at any time, as we didn’t give them TWO MONTHS notice to leave the FIXED TERM as stated in the contract. (How could anybody provide two months notice!??! What kind of property will allow you to sign up TWO months before moving in and paying rent????) Anybody who knows anything about law can clearly see that this contract term is in no way enforceable, it is completely unfair (as is the treatment by this letting company). The threatening and manipulative emails kept coming - “this is how it is seen in law” - please, Jonathan, provide us one law that states we must give you two months clear written notice to leave a fixed term contract? I have provided you with numerous laws that state otherwise, yet you haven’t given me one. “if the payment is not received the Landlord will look to pursue you for this which may affect your ability to rent or get finance in the future” good luck with that, and shame on you for these threats. The written correspondence throughout our time with SCL has been very poor, their staff do not understand basic English language and seem to forget where to put commas to ensure their emails can make sense. They lie and manipulate their tenants and I can imagine they have fooled others out of hundreds (if not thousands) of pounds, particularly students as I see they support student living. All I can say is if you are a landlord looking for a letting agent - avoid this one all together. If SCL put our apartment back on the market they would have easily been able fill it within 20 days with it being an ideal location and a nice enough flat (except the rodents, fridge that didn’t work and they wouldn’t fix, and horrendous communication). However they’re choosing to keep this off the market for 50 days for no reason whatsoever other than to attempt to manipulate us into paying another months rent - which we have reiterated time and time again, we will not be doing. And if you are anybody looking for a place to rent in sheffield AVOID SHEFFIELD CITY LIVING LIKE THE PLAGUE.

We dealt with Jonathan. He has been incredible throughout. I rang many agents for advice as we are new to the area. He was honest, candid and gave me fantastic advice about prices and locations. We have used many agents in the past but he was without doubt one of the best agents we have ever dealt with. We lived 200 miles away and he kept us updated throughout the transaction. He’s a real credit and fantastic ambassador for Sheffield City Living. Thanks so much for your assistance Jonathan, well done!PositiveResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism, Value

Bought a home from them. Everything was fine; nothing great, nothing awful. This is because the sales agent seemed to make up stories between all parties involved in the sale in order to get things done quicker (ie, to get commission quicker!), such as the seller is looking to pull out, even though in the grand scheme of things we were waiting on the seller. If it wasn’t for that I’d have given them 4 stars. Didn’t do anything to achieve 5 stars in my eyes.

Heidi · 26 August 2019

Agent replied · 24 August 2024

Hi Heidi, Thanks for your feedback. I am pleased the sale completed satisfactorily. As the agent our role involves acting as the conduit between the buyer and seller. Unfortunately sometimes this means relaying information that one party to the transaction is unhappy with, such as when the vendor threatens to pull out of the sale. I fully appreciate the stresses that this causes but there was a need in this instance to convey the vendor’s serious intentions to withdraw from the sale. Having dealt with this sale personally I can assure you that you were never misled about the vendor’s intentions and we simply don’t work like that. I will take the opportunity to wish you all the best for life in your new home.

Don’t bother cleaning your property when you leave as Sheffield City Living will deceive the deposit adjudicator with false evidence and you will lose the whole thing anyway - no matter what you do. Sheffield city living team are liars, thieves and manipulators. Worst experience ever with a letting agent - and that is saying something! Their team cannot communicate and don’t even have basic written English skills. Not sure who the hiring manager is but they need to get fired! Just avoid them.

Elsie · 17 August 2024

Agent replied · 24 August 2024

Hi Elsie, Thanks for leaving us yet another review. You failed to give notice as per the terms of your tenancy agreement. You asked us not to contact you again. We made a claim against your deposit which you disputed and the adjudicator ruled in our favour. We are not liars or thieves and we do not make up false evidence. It would be far simpler for us to allow you to break your tenancy but our clients are the landlord and we act to protect their interests where there is a breach of the tenancy agreement.
