My overall experience at MAF Ecco Site was largely a mixed bag, the accommodation communal Hallways was always left clean and tidy and smelt good so that is a huge positive. The Security man was lovely and represented MAF in a very good way, he was always free to help, on the contrary you will not be receiving this same level of interaction from the lettings staff... Let me expand, i had recently moved out the Ecco site, and by accident and to fault of my own, i had a parcel delivered to Ecco by mistake, and Evri showed picture proof that it had been delivered. I spoke to security he helped the best he could, but then i spoke to MAF lettings department over the phone and explained that someone has stolen my package at Ecco and they did not care, they said speak to your courier I accept that it is not their liability for stolen parcels but they have 'CCTV' in every corner of the building and refused to even consider looking at it. Shows a sever lack of humanitarian care. If you need to contact lettings expect blunt and monotone feedback or answers to your concerns or queries, they just don't want to know, felt like pulling teeth getting them to assist through out the year. Like i said the accommodation was a good standard just don't expect to be cared about.
Hi Ryan We are sorry to see you have felt the need to leave this negative review. Although you are entitled to your opinion of MAF properties i thought it only fair to also explain things from our perspective. Tenants/ex-tenants are responsible for their own deliveries of parcels and the changing of their current address. This is not something we are able to assist with. Couriers often leave many parcels in the lobby and CCTV can not see who's name is on the parcel from such a distance so even if we obtained this nobody would be able to tell whom the parcel belonged to so nothing would be able to be gained from this. We have experienced this on many occasions and this is why there are many signs in the entrance written by South Yorkshire Police themselves asking couriers not to leave parcels in the lobby and why tenants are advised to use click and collect options or lock boxes in the area. An email will have been sent to you at the start of the tenancy regarding this. If you did not choose this option or change your home address after not living in the property for 4 months it can not be our responsibility to do this for you. As advised to you if you contact the courier who left the parcel in an unsecured location and the parcel has gone missing then they would be liable for this and you will be able to get a replacement for the parcel from the supplier. Perhaps even get this delivered to your current home address. MAF properties have always done their best to assist tenants throughout their tenancy and we do feel that giving such a low star review due to a missing parcel is in somewhat poor taste as this has nothing to do with the MAF team and their committed service to their tenants. Regards MAF

Brillaint letting agents, one of the best in Sheffield. Extremely friendly quick and very quick to sort any issues out. We rented a property with them for around three years and they were fantastic, property was fab and the MAF team were always happy to help. Thank you!
Hi Ella thanks for your review, it's very much appreciated, you guys are welcome back anytime! Regards Dan @ MAF

I love the interior for the most part . Had issues with mould in washing machine at the start even though we were told the flat was cleaned. Had issues with security guard whistling at us . And they advertise free wifi which sounds great but little did we know the wifi connection is at most times terrible . So our tv rarely has a connection . You can pay for an upgrade with the wifi but it seems like it’s a forced pay as the wifi was bad in the first place . The blinds don’t give the greates privacy and there’s no blinds in the kitchen I do understand why (prevent mould) but it’s not great for privacy . The delivery system isn’t great here as you can’t buzz your couriers in through both doors just the first one (which kind of makes the whole buzzing people in pointless as you will still have to come down and let them in ). If there was a full time receptionist that could let them in that would solve the situation and keep your deliveries safe. Most staff have been friendly especially the maintenance guy . The price and location is good for money as well . Limited parking for residents and quite extortionate in my opinion . Also think ahead when moving in as they don’t allow moving vans temporarily in the parking lot which created loads of issues for me as moving guys need to be a certain distance to the building . So moving is really inconvenient as again there’s not guaranteed parking around / near the building
Hi Charlotte I’m sorry you felt the need to leave this review rather than addressing any of these issues directly with us to enable them to be resolved. The apartment was fully cleaned prior to the start of your tenancy, I cannot find any mention of any issues with the washer dryer from you or your flatmates and it is marked down as clean on your moving in inventory. The free internet service that is provided within the building includes wifi and ethernet ports in every room, again I cannot find any mention of any problems with this from you or your flatmates. As per your moving in paperwork the ISP provides direct tenant support at Ecco and will resolve any issues. Also there is not the option to pay to upgrade the free internet with the service that is provided by the landlord so I think there must be some confusion with this. With regard to deliveries you do need to go down to the lobby to collect your parcels, this is for the security of all tenants to avoid numerous non residents being allowed into the building unaccompanied and ensure that any parcel gets to the intended recipient. As per the email sent to you at the start of your tenancy if you know you are not going to be in to receive a delivery we recommend using a local drop box to ensure you receive your items. All bedrooms have blackout blinds in, your group chose an apartment with full height corner windows to the living area, these do not have blinds both for the reason you mention and because they are a design feature of the building. The glass is tinted but had this been an issue when you were choosing your apartment we could have accommodated you in one with greater privacy. With regard to the parking at Ecco, this is secure allocated parking in a fully enclosed courtyard with an ANPR operated gate, CCTV and overnight security. The cost of this is significantly discounted for tenants at less than £2.50 per day which we believe provides excellent value for money as other open carparks in the area charge significantly more whilst providing less. Your parking agreement has not yet started, if you are unhappy with this, we will refund your initial payment in full and offer the space to the next tenant on the waiting list. With regard to the security guard, this individual has worked at Ecco for more than 4 years without any issues from more than 900 tenants over that time. Having spoken to him regarding your comment, he strongly denies ever “whistling” at you or any other tenants. The only possible explanation we have found during our investigation, is that you heard the audible alarm from the security system to alert the guard to someone approaching the bike stores which can sound like a whistle. MAF Properties have been operating as student landlords in Sheffield for almost 30 years, are registered with The University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield City Council SNUG Scheme and pride ourselves on having excellent working relationships with all our tenants and hope you enjoy the rest of your tenancy at Ecco.

From Start to Finish the team at MAF have answered every question and aided in any requests with the flat the quickest I've seen. The property was well managed, fairly priced and a great experience overall. Sadly my time in Sheffield's come to an end but if I was to do it again I would choose MAF. Big thanks

My daughter has signed up with Maf properties for her second year at their Ecclesall Gate complex 2015-2016. She lives with three of her friends who have resigned too. I have to say i have never seen student accommodation like this its seriously looks like a celebrity home with the granite worktops in the kitchen and cool chic interior design. The properties are spacious and modern with built in facilities to accommodate all student needs. Location is very good as its close to the University. Very professional service and ask for dan he was brilliant.
Thanks for the review, and personal mention Dan @ MAF

MAF properties have been extremely supportive throughout our experience with them. They quickly helped us with anything we needed including sorting out replacement tenants when required.
Hi Crystal, thanks for your review, hopefully we can help you again in the future.

Rented with MAF for three years in two different properties - both were great and I never had any issues with them, or the staff, who were always helpful and friendly. Anytime something needed repairing it was done quickly by an equally friendly maintenance man. Had deposits returned both times and they were very accommodating of the shift between flats, allowing us to extend our tenancy so we could move things over without excess travel. Would recommend :)
Hi Tabitha thanks very much for the review, much appreciated. You've been great tenants and we'll be happy to have you with us again if you're back in Sheffield. Regards Dan @ MAF

Recently moved into the Ecco property and it is more than worth the amount you’re paying for it. It’s by far the most modern property you can stay in in Sheffield and I’d highly reccomend it to anyone who’s considering. The two main staff members I communicated with, Dan and Frankie were incredibly helpful through the sign up and moving in procedure!
Hi Max, thanks very much for your review, always good to hear!

Since moving into Ecco apartments we have been nothing but impressed! The location is ideal-close to shops and the University of Sheffield and in a very safe area. The apartment itself is up to date with a high quality finish and equipped with modern furnishings. Overall I would wholeheartedly recommend Ecco apartments to both professionals and students!
Hi Douglas, thanks for coming back to us for another year and your review. Dan@MAF

EDIT: Reviewing on behalf of a partner who lived with MAF. These are great people to live with if you want to hate every minute of your time attempting to interact with their customer service, and having entirely would be illegal to enforce clauses in tenancy agreements. Not being allowed to have overnight guests without written consent was a personal favourite (violation of the UK right to quiet enjoyment), especially coupled with the final clause stating that anything found to be unlawful in their contract is basically void. I.e.: they know about their shady contract and refuse to do anything about it. Would recommend everyone look to people actually competent for their uni accommodation. :)
Hi Miles thank you for the additional information, if any of our tenants actually has an issue please ask them to contact us directly so that we can resolve it. MAF Properties have been providing accommodation to students in Sheffield for over 35 years, we are registered Landlords with both The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University and have been for many years. We also subscribe to the SNUG scheme run by Sheffield City Council, as members all our documentation is checked and approved by them. As per our previous response you are not and never have been a tenant of ours and I can't find you've ever had any direct contact with our company. Again if one of our tenants actually has any issue we would ask them to contact us so that we can resolve it.

Update- reply back to MAF- we wrote on the inventory about the clumps of hair on the floor in the bedroom, and white stains on the floor. As well as the bath, I emailed and was told it would be sorted- it was never sorted. As well as this I’ve remembered waking up one morning to a painter opening the flat, and I hadn’t received an email prior to tell me someone was going to enter the flat at 10am. The whole thing was one sided on both parties, I wasn’t in contact with my house mate and anything you discussed to them wasn’t relayed back to me. Also I would like to know how we left the flat in an unclean condition? The only thing that could have been seen as unclean was the carpets because the hoover has absolutely no power to it and hardly works. Only lived here a month. MAF didn’t tell me there was a £50 charge for the tenancy takeover which was frustrating. Also when I first moved in it definitely hadn’t been deep cleaned and was clumps of hair on the carpet. The bath plug didn’t work and I emailed, but still wasn’t fixed by the time I left. Very disappointing I was paying for a flat where I couldn’t even use the bath. I also requested a dining room table which also never came. Would be less hassle and cleaner to live elsewhere
Hi Jodie, I'm sorry you felt the need to leave this review, it's particularly disappointing given the amount of time and effort put in to help you and your housemate when you decided that you would no longer be living together. Whilst these difficulties do happen it is rather unusual for this to be within an hour of you collecting your keys. We have worked extremely hard to ensure the replacement tenants were able to move in quickly to help release you from your tenancy, including changing all the paperwork, that had already been prepared and issued, to alter the agreed dates to accommodate your needs. The property was cleaned prior to you moving in and you signed your cleaning confirmation on 29 June to confirm this and that you were happy with the condition of the property. Unfortunately, you didn’t leave the property is the same condition when you returned your keys. You did request a dining table, this was an additional item, that we agreed to look into but as you chose not to continue your tenancy there was no time for this to be sourced. I can find no report of any issue with the bath in the apartment. The charge for the changes to your tenancy is stated on page 1 of your tenancy agreement and was discussed with your housemate on one of their visits to our office. Whilst we appreciate your disappointment that your tenancy at Devonshire Point didn't continue as you originally planned it is extremely unfair to imply this was due to any fault with the property as it was entirely due to your and your housemates personal circumstances.

I have used MAF throughout living in Sheffield as a student and would highly recommend, especially if you are looking for more luxury accommodation, without breaking the bank. Great properties, modern and well-equipped and a really friendly team that are always on hand to help. Thanks to Dan & Harriet :)

DO NOT EVER SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THESE PEOPLE THEY TAKE YOUR MONEY! Lived at the student flats with my 5 other friends during my second year and had the worst experience. Within the first month of living there we experienced an attempted break in and we’re all a bunch of girls and you can imagine how scared we was, we got no form of support whatsoever from our “landlords”. We received the pin to the back doors two weeks before leaving the site and went days without heating or warm water. The wifi doesn’t even work we used our neighbours wifi for the last couple months and we are university students, WIFI is mandatory in a student home. They have no urgency to fix any issues, they are currently trying to charge us 1.3k for barely anything at all. One of our tenants left the site in early October and her room was untouched but they are trying to take her deposit too?? Worst landlords ever, they’ve only returned us 160£ of our deposit when we gave them a total of 1500. Understandable if we punched holes and wrecked and broke everything in the property but that is not the case at all. Would not recommend they will never be seeing me again.
Hi Khairiyah I'm sorry that you've felt the need to leave this review, whilst we appreciate that you are not happy about not receiving your full deposit back, given the condition that the property was left in and the number of items that we have waived charges for in order to reach agreement with the group, we feel that we have been more than fair. As you are aware the house was left in an appalling condition with a large amount of rubbish left behind and no attempt to return the property to the condition that it was given to you in, in terms of cleaning. Despite this the charges relating to cleaning the property were waived in attempt to reach agreement with the group. With regard to damages you did in fact leave a hole in the wall in bedroom 5 plus two burnt carpets, two stained carpets and a mattress with a hole in it. In addition to the cleaning charges that were waived, we also waived the charges relating to the broken blinds, missing mattress protectors and the discharged fire extinguisher. No charge has been made for the late checkout and return of keys for the house despite contractors having to wait more than 4 hours to access the house, which we have paid for. With regard to the free internet service in the property, as per the terms of your tenancy this is provided as a free service by the landlord, this was upgraded for all tenants at the development in April 2021, unfortunately the new router that was supplied for your property by the new ISP was faulty when it arrived, a new one was requested from the ISP and installed as soon as it arrived, as a temporary measure you were connected to the signal from another property. With regard to the heating and hot water at the property I can see that you reported a few issues throughout your tenancy and looking at the maintenance records, these were all resolved either the same day or next working day. MAF Properties have been operating as student landlords in Sheffield for almost 30 years, are registered with The University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield City Council SNUG Scheme and pride ourselves on having excellent working relationships with all our tenants.

I lived in a property owned by MAF for my final year of Undergraduate studies and liked it so much that I decided to stay with them again for another year for my Postgraduate studies. I now live in their newest development (Ecco apartments) in a two bedroom flat and the quality is impressive. The new flats are well furbished, spacious and despite being on the 6th floor, the flat itself stays relatively cool during the hot summer days. The building itself has an excellent location as it is only 10-15 mins to both Uni of and Hallam by foot, plus there is a Waitrose, Aldi and Sainsburys on our doorstep. The double glazing windows do a fantastic job of blocking out a lot of noise and this is what I was most anxious about as there is still construction work being carried out next to us. The staff are friendly and very approachable. They are also very responsive to any problems that may arise, and because of this, we were able to sort out the letterbox key and bin issue within a day. I would recommend MAF properties to any students, both undergraduates and postgraduates who are looking for a shared house/flat.
Hi Jacob good to have you back with us for another year, thanks for the review. Dan@MAF

I’ve just moved into the new Ecco apartments and I am very happy with my flat. The interior is great, there’s lots of space. The building is in a great location but at the minute no visible security on site which I'm hoping will change. Some staff at MAF are also very friendly but I did have a disagreement with one of there staff and so did a friend of mine and the staff member I spoke to made the argument very heated and didn't seem like she cared about my opinion but apart from that I've not had any trouble so far.
Hi Thomas thanks for your review, I'm glad that your happy with your new apartment. I am aware of the conversation you had with one of my colleagues regarding the condition the temporary accommodation, that we provided you with, was left in. I can only apologise if you feel that you weren't listened to, it was a new member of staff that you were speaking to and they have received further training as to how we would normally have dealt with that situation. If you need anything further please contact me directly. Kind regards Dan@MAF

I stayed with them at Devonshire Point from July 2021 until June 2023. Their staff are very helpful and properties are comfortable and pleasant. Any issues are resolved quickly and smartly. A great choice for small groups (3 to 4) of students in Sheffield.

Could not recommend MAF enough! Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Devonshire point. The flat was lovely, perfect location and good value for money. The staff are friendly and very quick to respond to any queries or sort any issues. Stress free and simple - exactly what we needed in our final year of uni. Thanks MAF! 😁 …
Thanks so much for your feedback Jess, we are so happy you enjoyed your time at Devonshire point and you were wonderful tenants. All the staff at MAF wish you all the best in the future Claire & Dan @ MAF
