Spent time last week at the Harron Homes development in Chesterfield with my wife. The senior sales executive on site, Nathan, was excellent. He was informative, engaging and incredibly helpful with ideas and suggestions. A genuine pleasure to spend time with and a credit to the company.Alan Pringle

Don't bother

Don't bother. Delays from signing up, 3 years of misery from moving in to unfinished house, every system in our house has been re done from roof to floors and we are lucky as we have had less than others. We actually celebrated the other day as no skips or scaffolding in sight after 3 years and only recently ie 3 months ago we got a road. That's from 2016 to nearly end of 2019 and no road, basic ask really but they can't even get that right. Prior to this I sprained my ankle and ruptured my achilles on the road full of bumps and holes and they're even contesting the payout yet accepted responsibility for the significant and long term damage caused. I am still fighting them through the legal system. To be honest why am I surprised as they just ignore you unless you involve regulators or legal. Nice now after we went to LABC numerous times but you'd expect better at the price they charge. I've bought persimmon and wimpey in past and son has wainhomes oh I wish I'd stuck with one of them. With the house and the still ongoing battle with injuries it is so tiresome. Don't get me wrong lovely now with the nicest neighbours, after all we have something in common, but don't love the house as I should because of the hassle. I just want what I paid for but no not happened and no apologies or anything. You can be sure of buying a second hand Harron home because it will have been corrected to standard which even now we continue to do as we are outside the 2 years snagging warranty but don't buy new from harron homes. You will definitely regret it. And really don't be fooled by the high reviews on here it is really clear who wrote them, you don't need to be a genius. Maybe Harron try getting it right in thr first place then you don't have to lie, oh wait that's what you specialise in isn't it? Lying yep we've heard so many of them why bother changing now.

I bought a house in 2015 at the…

I bought a house in 2015 at the Hazelmoor Fold development. I sent something in the region of 159 to 200 emails over the next three years trying to get the 148 defects / snags sorted. After more than three years of battling with Harron, I finally gave up at Easter 2019, still with about 30 outstanding. They were supposed to send someone then to replace some doors with scratched glass panels (they were actually replacements themselves that were more scratched than the originals), but, as ever, nobody turned up. The “customer service” team, and I use the term lightly, are shocking. They tell you one thing, then do another. At one poi t they sent people letters saying we were not to ring them up any more. How’s that for great service. Some of my defects were so easy to fix at the time that you really can not understand why they didn’t just sort it. Great example - our small hall carpet has a join in it. It’s only about ten feet long by six wide, so clearly no need for a join unless they just used off cuts. Four years down the line you couldn’t just replace the hall, as it would no longer match the rest of the downstairs. Anyway, I gave up. Harron, feel free to contact me (you have my details) and I will consider changing the review. But you won’t. Because you never do. It’s interesting that Harron respond to all of the positive reviews (mostly from people leaving their first TrustPilot review, with names suspiciously similar to known Harron staff members), and don’t respond to any reviews that are critical of them. They also appear to have reported many reviews - I know some of the people that submitted them, and they would have been fair and accurate accounts of the issues they have had. I love the layout and location of my house, but it is far from the luxury we were promised. Heavily reliant on MDF, poor workmanship and terrible customer service. If you have other options, avoid Harron Homes. Never has “buyer beware” been more apt. Nick Edwards.

Worst home builder of them all

Rudest, most ignorant, incompetent builder I’ve ever bought from. When I bought from Harron it was my fourth new build from my fourth builder and they are by far the worst!Even a double page spread in the Guardian didn’t elicit a response to my multiple snags. These included:1. No cavity insulation2. A sloped landing 3. Yellow foam which spilled out and hardened against the brickwork from roof to ground4. Incorrectly fitted roof5. Incorrect garden gradient than was advertised 6. 60 minor snagsOver 2 years we:1. Wrote several letters2. Emailed well over 50 times3. Called uncountable times4. Created a Guardian article about consumer rights5. Tried to arrange our own resolution by contacting Harron suppliers All of which went unanswered or worse still resulted in false promises and missed timescales. I would trust a politician over a Harron employee any day of the week.AVOID, AVOID, AVOID

Far Grange, Selby. Underhand selling tactics

We went in initially to the Far Grange showhome at Selby to see what was available and the sales lady, showed us the properties on offer. The property she was trying to push on us was the Warkworth, however we explained it was over budget so she asked how we would feel if she could get us a good deal. We looked at the figures and explained we were about £10,000 apart and we weren't too sure if it was the right area for us anyhow. After a couple of weeks we went back to see if there was any scope to close this £10k gap and the fact that we wanted to part exchange our existing property. This started the ball rolling and the estate agents came out to value etc. She then came back with a deal but it was still around £8k apart. Over the next few weeks we were backwards and forwards with different deals on offer but nothing came in at the £10k difference. We were sticking to our guns as we were already over budget. Finally she came to us with an offer which brought us down to around £4k difference but she offered to throw a patio and an extra set of wardrobes in. This was completely her idea, not ours. I explained that if she could secure the patio and the wardrobes, I was just about there to saying yes. She urged us to go and look at the show home of this house type in Ripon and get back to her. This phone call was at around 4pm on a saturday afternoon and after discussing it with my husband he urged me to call back and reserve the plot. I rang her back only 25 minutes later but it went to answerphone so I left a message stating that we wanted to reserve it and asking what the deposit would be and how to go about paying it. She never responded to our call that afternoon, or the following day. She was aware that we would be tied up in the morning but that we would be rushing through to see the show home in Ripon on the Sunday afternoon. The show home looked amazing and as soon as we left, we rang to confirm the plot had been reserved. This was when she dropped the bombshell that somebody had walked in the sales office that day and reserved her property. I cannot describe how heartbroken I was and the following day I rang her to express my disappointment that she hadn't contacted us to acknowledge my phone call asking to reserve or to let me know there was another interested party. My main argument being that if she had returned my call and I had paid the deposit, then the house would have been mine. As far as I was concerned they should be honouring the deal they had offered. She told me the other couple had already sold their property so were in a better position, but she would speak to her manager and get back to us. When she called a few days later it was to tell us that the other couple hadn't actually paid the deposit yet (something to do with her being unable to take payments in the office apparently), and if we agreed to the same deal as this other couple we could have first refusal, the extra amount being £10k of course. This is when things started sounding a little bit too fabricated and after a few more discussions saying we weren't prepared to budge we told her that unless they honoured our deal we weren't interested and not to call us again until they agreed to go with what they had offered. At this point she hung up on my husband! This was around 4 weeks ago. The property is still on the market and my friend called a few days later to see which properties they had available and plot 146 was still very much for sale. The whole thing had been a complete fabrication. She was never intending to give us the deal she offered, nor was there another couple. She was stringing us along, trying to get us to fall in love with the property, only to snatch it away so we would then pay the extra. I'm absolutely fuming that she expected us to play this game! She should have been completely honest from the start and explained that she could not meet our requests. If she had been honest we may well have revisited our finances and decided to go the extra £10k, however after the tactics that were played on us there was no way I was going to spend over £300k with them. Since this i have emailed customer services, the managing director and also a regional MD. The managing directors PA replied and gave me details for one of the regional MD's who I forwarded my complaint on to. Unfortunately I have had no response despite 3 emails in total. I'm absolutely heartbroken that I lost this property and also that this is how they treat their potential customers. Harron, you had a buyer in me and due to your underhand sales tactics you lost me. I always thought Harron had a good reputation, however this has tainted my view.

Amberwood Chase

We have been in our house at Amberwood Chase now for 10 months. We did have quite a few issues at first from day 1 but we had such excellent service from Maddie, Steph and Matt throughout who managed to get most of our niggles sorted. They are a credit to Harron Homes. The houses are well laid out and beautiful and airy. The final workmanship leaves a lot to be desired but we can decorate and rectify this in our own time. We are still waiting for the odd snag to be completed but we love living here and glad we made the move.

Avoid avoid avoid

Avoid dealing with these liars at all costs.Reserved our plot beginning of last year, before we even exchanged contracts we pointed out to the sales office and the site manager that the plot was being built the OPPOSITE way round (!?) to the plans we had given meaning that next doors plot actually now took a large chunk of our driveway away. Not only this but the drainage plans we were provided showed only one drain cover in the back garden. On having a nosey at the plot there were in fact 3, one of which is the man hole cover for the entire street where everyone else's waste would back up when there's an issue. We were reassured (promised, for months on end) that the man hole cover was being moved. Long story short, based on these promises, we agreed to exchange contracts and have now been in the property almost a year. It may come as no surprise to those of you who have dealt with Harron before but the drain covers are still nestled nicely in our back garden! After chasing and chasing and chasing for all of this time, emails going unanswered and us having to physically stop people on site for a response, and after a new site manager is employed on site we have been told there is no way to move them and that's that. No compensation, no explanation. Just blaming it on the previous site manager and washing their hands of us. Surely there is a HUGE breach here of honesty when exchanging legal contracts based on what we had been told the plot would be like once we lived there? It's very true what a lot of these reviews are saying.... Once they have your money they couldn't give a monkeys about you or any promises they make. Just don't do it. So many other people building new properties right now so there's plenty of other fish in the sea. We only wish we had headed the advice of these reviews before we were in this position.

Lost deposit money

We took the plunge and put a deposit on a Harron Home two months ago. Since then we have looked deeper into the company and have not been at all impressed. Although mixed reviews on this site, not so on facebook and twitter. Also press reviews that all are very negative. One thing that stood out was the lack of ongoing customer service and being isolated once they have your money. Unfortunately, I am not well enough to be able to cope with a house with potential defects and have to wait a long time for them to be resolved. We have now pulled out of the purchase, and although we have lost the few hundred pounds deposit, in the long run we have defiantly made the correct decision.

Save yourself the hassle and buy a Taylor Wimpy

I have owned a new build before and although they didn’t brand themselves as a luxury house builder with houses build to the highest standards they certainly exceeded Harron Homes on the build quality of my house. We moved in just over 2 years ago and have made painful progress in getting our snagging and issues dealt with. First you have to get a response from the abysmal customer service team, then you have to wait in for someone to look at your snags (if they even turn up!) then you have to chase it some more, then some more, then some more. Next someone else has to come look at your snags as the last person has left the company and with them taken any trace of your issues/existence. An ‘expert’ will then come (or maybe they won’t) look again for 30 seconds and decide it’s all ok. Matter closed. If you confront them about it, they lie. I have never experienced such a dishonest company who truly do not care about their customers. DO NOT BUY A HARRON HOME however gorgeous the plans are and perfect the design because you will be nothing but disappointed. I also find it hilarious that all the positive reviews get a thanks and yet all the negatives can not be verified as genuine! Reading the reviews I know which ones I would bet my life’s savings on for being genuine.

Where do I start they lie to get you in…

Where do I start they lie to get you in your house and when you complain about how it’s finished you seem to disappear and don’t exist, the only seem to respond when you start court action, my advise is steer clear unless you want to be constantly disappointed, the biggest purchase of your life and the experience should not be like this, I would choose anyone over Harron Homes even Bob the Builder would do a better job. Read the reviews and the Yorkshire Post stories were not wrong.

We have lived in our harron home just…

We have lived in our harron home just over 2 years now. And are completely at our wits end. All our drains are now clogged up and are overflowing, we can not use any water facilities within our house, showers, toilets, taps ect as it comes back up from our pipes back into the house and we have raw sewage seeping into our back garden. We had reported this issues months after moving into the property and has been an ongoing issue. The house is now not fit to live in as its unhygienic we and our dogs have become Ill. And we are now at the point where if we where to use the shower the water would come through our ceiling and cause even worse internal damage. The issue all stems from a cracked pipe in our neighbours garden which would sort the issue. However harron are refusing to do this! What sort of company will not deal with issue that is putting peoples health and hygiene at risk and will let further substantial damage to our property and risk of flooding by not resolving this known issue. We payed an awful lot of money for what should have been our dream forever home. But in reality its turning into a nightmare. Truly awful after care. My only option is now to seek legal advice!

As with many other reviewers

As with many other reviewers, even one star is pushing it. Five months after completing (which was six months past my estimated completion date), I'm still not in, and still have pretty much all of the 383 snags reported by independent snagging company, outstanding. Yes, the house designs look lovely. But if you employ rubbish contractors to execute them, then what is the point? There isn't a single aspect of my experience with Harron that had been positive, and I wish to heaven that I'd found the Harron Homes Hassles Facebook page before I reserved at Silsden, as I wouldn't have touched them with a bargepole. Do not buy from these people - they will not deliver the 'superior, luxury' home they promise, and what you will get, months or even years past your estimated completion date, is a sub-standard property riddled with problems that they will have no intention of rectifying. Happy to supply any supporting evidence to back up this review, just in case you want to contest it, Harron.

COWBOYS - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Reserved a Harron Home in Feb 2018 and have had nothing but hell since. Company full of lies and would not wish the experience on my worst enemy. Was told our house would be ready by June 2018, but did not move in until 21st December. The house was handed over to us as a building site - no carpets, en suite was out of use (left with stale urine in),water coming out of the plugs/ walls, holes in the walls.Came downstairs on Christmas morning to a flooded kitchen so had to move out of the property for over 2 weeks as no one turned up to fix anything.Noel Adams the Managing Director came out to view the property after apologising and promising to make things right - when he visited the property he admitted there was no way the house had been legally singed off and all he could blame was the Christmas rush.Since then we haven't heard from Noel and he has failed to rectify over 100 issues in the house. Now everyone just ignores you, passes on the blame and refuses to listen or care. The sales people are awful - but you couldn't expect any less from a scummy business! We have building control coming to conduct a full audit on the property. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID - COWBOYS.COULD NOT RUN A BATH
