We chose Gascoigne Halman in Sale to sell our house and found them to be very professional and efficient. They conducted the viewings and gave us feedback after each one. They also kept us informed of what was happening once we'd accepted an offer and matters were in the hands of solicitors. All of the staff we had contact with were lovely too - the branch manager Lewis and his team (Julie, Annie, Hannah, Joe and James) were all friendly, knowledgeable and caring. We would definitely recommend Gascoigne Halman to anyone selling their property in Sale!

After nearly a year with this agency to sell our house, I can confidently say it was one of the most frustrating experiences of our lives. Their communication was consistently poor, their organisation was non-existent, and the sale fell through three times due to their apparent inability to properly vet or stay informed about buyers’ situations. On one occasion, we waited five months only for the buyer to pull out two days before contract exchange, something that could have been avoided with basic due diligence. Throughout the entire process, they offered zero proactive advice on improving our chances of selling. Their only suggestion, every single time, was to drop the price. To make matters worse, the solicitor they recommended was equally unresponsive and unprofessional, adding even more stress to an already painful process.

I am so pleased that we asked Gascoigne Halman to sell our house. We were delighted with the way that the negotiating team handled the sale but the real bonus was the way that Julie and Annie held everything together between offer and exchange in what was quite a long chain. We have moved house a few times, although not for some years, but never experienced such a stress free move or felt the need to chase solicitors less because Annie and Julie were doing it all for us. If you want to sell a house in Sale, Gascoignes are the place to go.

We first spoke to Jodie (Sale Branch - Lettings) over the phone about letting our property. She offered to have a look at the property to suggest what rent is achievable along with any improvements needed to attract tenants. Jodie went above and beyond to take pictures on her non-working Saturday and listed the property the same day. The whole viewing process was seamless and happened while we were travelling. The viewing confirmation text is a great system which kept us up to date and gave an idea about the traction we were getting. Jodie kept us up to date with everything and responded to all our queries promptly. All documentation happened swiftly and online from start to finish. Fees were competitive. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this agency. I relocated from Liverpool a week ago, expecting the property to be habitable. Unfortunately, I encountered a series of major defects, including no proper heating, plumbing issues, and serious cleanliness problems, the driveway was full of moss and mold. Additionally, there were rats in the garden, an issue previously reported by neighbors and past tenants but never addressed. Relocating is already stressful, but dealing with these unresolved problems, especially after being misinformed about the rat infestation, made it even worse. I was told there were no rats, yet they were still present in the garden. The agents are polite when speaking, but despite my repeated calls and reports since day one, they have taken no action to resolve these serious issues.

Absolutely terrible experience with…

Absolutely terrible experience with this letting agent. After the landlord withdrew an agreed offer, we were left out of pocket and still have not had our deposit returned. Communication has been poor throughout, with constant delays and little accountability. We felt completely unsupported and ignored when trying to resolve the issue fairly. I would strongly advise others to be very cautious before dealing with this agency. They tried to make us send them thousands of pounds with no contract given then last minute withdrew the offer and are refusing to give the deposit back. Absolutely dreadful agency.

Excellent throughout

Absolutely excellent from start to finish of the house sale - one local agent kept phoning to see if we 'had come to a decision to market the property' which lost them any business, whereas GH did the visit to see the place and then said they'd leave us alone and it was up to us to give it the go-ahead or not. No pestering - excellent. Once we gave them the thumbs-up we had a string of viewers within days, and eventually exceeded the guide price by a small margin which suggests the guide price was accurate too. The staff at Gascoigne Halman were always on hand and worked brilliantly, especially Georgia who made sure everyone was kept in touch with any and all news and developments as things progressed, resulting in a sale a fortnight before Christmas which was exactly what buyers and sellers wanted. I would heartily recommend this outift.

I had a very disappointing experience with Gascoigne Halman, particularly in how they handle tenant concerns versus landlord interests. From the very beginning of the tenancy, we raised multiple issues regarding lack of proper hot water and an inadequate boiler system. We repeatedly contacted the agency, explaining that the hot water was not functioning properly and that the system required constant manual adjustment just to get basic hot water. This not only caused inconvenience for a family with children but also significantly increased our electricity costs due to repeated heating cycles. Despite clear communication and follow-ups, no effective action was taken to resolve the issue. Now, at the end of the tenancy, instead of fairly assessing the situation, the agency has aligned entirely with the landlord and is attempting to make unreasonable deductions from our deposit, including claims that are not properly supported with evidence. It is particularly concerning that: • Longstanding maintenance issues (including hot water problems) were not addressed • Property condition issues such as EPC rating of E and lack of proper heating system • Yet, at check-out, these are being indirectly used against the tenant This gives a clear impression that the agency prioritises landlords’ interests while failing to fairly represent or support tenants, even when legitimate concerns are raised during the tenancy. I would strongly advise prospective tenants to: • Document everything • Follow up in writing • Be cautious when dealing with deposit deductions Unfortunately, this experience has shown a lack of balance, accountability, and fairness in how tenant matters are handled.

Absolutely awful experience so far as a renter! We moved in early October 2025 and still as of March 13th 2026 there's STILL a load of rubbish left behind from a previous tenant/builder around the side and back of our garage. I have rang Gascoigne Halman many times to raise and chase the issue but nothing is being done about it. As renters the house should be ready to move into it shouldn't be on us to arrange and pay for the removal of this rubbish not left by us!

We recently sold our house in Sale and were very pleased that we chose Gascogne Halman, Sale, to market our property. From first to last the whole team: Andrew, Julie and Dan were very professional and helped us through what at times was a fraught process. One regret was the fact that we used the Gascoigne Halman conveyancing service. They are a national firm and we really struggled to get the conveyancing process really started. Poor service and disappointing behaviour after tenancy agreement

After completing our tenancy with Gascoigne halman. Despite leaving the property in what we believed to be a clean and acceptable condition. We received a £550 deposit claim, including charges for cleaning (£250), decoration and painting (£150), and a radiator leak (£115). I have rented this apartment for 1 year.When we first moved into the property, it was in poor condition and had a noticeable odour. We raised this with the agency several times, but no action was taken.

Awful management and communication

As per all the other negative reviews - terrible communication - poorly written emails, unprofessional in manner and just awful to deal with. From moving into property, water pressure issues and constant cold showers. After months of back and forth was told (by a manager) 'oh well you are on a rolling contract, so you can just find another property' as appose to just having the issue fixed? Turns out it was a pump needed for the boiler, and of course the landlord did not want to pay as it was 'expensive'. It wasn't. Paying over a grand a month for no hot showers and terrible management is expensive. Clearly they prioritise landlords and not tenants. We left as suggested and do not recommend for renting at all - save your self the stress and sour puss faces.

Highly recomment Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield

After 3 aborted sales with Purple Bricks which consumed 14 stressful months due to lack of support, wrong price, no vetting of purchasers, etc., etc. I decided to use Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield to sell our house. Within 1 week Matthew Clark and his team had vetted a new purchaser who was right for our property, truly had the funds, and was highly likely to follow through to completion (which they did).I can't recommend Gascoigne Halman enough for their proactive advice and follow-up, aiding the purchaser and keeping me informed. I found them friendly and easy to communicate with. No waiting for someone to answer the phone for inquiries and prompt replies on email. When the exchange of contacts and completion time came, they helped pressure crucial solicitor communication so that we met the target dates keeping me (the seller) and the purchaser happy. I can't recommend Gascoigne Halman in Macclesfield enough. Thanks, folks, you deserve the credit, and will be using you again for another property sale.
