As I was purchasing an apartment I had no other choice than to use JCP as the agent, that being said I couldn’t fault my experience with them. From initial viewing to picking up my keys they were the consummate professionals throughout. My go to during the process was Elizabeth Baddley who was friendly, knowledgeable and always approachable. I’ve had agents in the past who will get back to you after the second or third call, that never happened with Elizabeth who was on the case at all times. when I come to sell my property and have a choice of agents I’ll have no need to shop around. Well done to you and the team at JCP.

Poor experience as a potential tenant: our details were not logged in the system, and the elderly resident of the property had not received notification that we were coming to view, making for an embarrassing viewing experience. The agent showing us the property was not able to answer most of our questions e.g. age of boiler, garden access arrangements, and did not follow up with any paperwork as promised.

I have tried to discuss purchasing a property via this agency, they ignored my emails, when I chased and got a reply they were monosyllabic and unhelpful. I am quite sad for their lovely vendors and really hope they get a better service from their end *Edit as I seem unable to respond to your reply directly* Thank you for taking the time to reply. The things that interest me especially are these….. You believe that me having to send 3 emails to obtain one reply is acceptable You believe that one word emails are professional You believe that not following up a viewing from a potential buyer is ok That you have reviewed the emails yet it is still for me to contact you to discuss? If you have reviewed them - then hey - why not reach out to me. We rented a flat in Foundry with JCP and they took **5 weeks** to fix our heating which broke down in the middle of a bitterly cold covid winter. The landlords who put up a nice front on one hand, turned out to be extremely extractive and kept charging us for new damages even **two months after** we vacated. Instead of ensuring proper protocol was followed, JCP silently stood by as the landlords did this (since ultimately the landlords pay JCP). The deposit negotiation was started months late such that renovation costs could be realised and passed on. Now we're with NOPS and it's so much better: people reply to our emails, they fix broken things and there's a level of professionalism that's just completely absent in JCP.

My experience with James C. Penny Estate Agents has been emphatically the worst I have ever experienced. Myself and housemates entered our newly rented property yesterday to find that JCP and the landlord they represent had done absolutely nothing to turn over the property since the previous tenants had left. This meant the house was filthy, uninhabitable, and unfit for purpose as several of the fittings in the property were broken, dangerous, and unusable. In addition, they had not removed the rubbish left behind by the previous tenants. All of this meant we could not inhabit a property we had paid over £3000 (so far) to live in. It is shockingly unacceptable for a letting agent to allow a tenancy to commence without even having checked that a property under their management is in a suitable condition. The service they have provided to us as from the beginning has demonstrated their utter disdain for tenants. The agent who showed us around the property could not answer a single question about it and had clearly done no research before conducting the viewing. However, she was perfectly capable of haggling extra money out of us for the rent on the landlord's behalf. The individual responsible for maintaining correspondence with us before the tenancy commenced was unresponsive and unorganised. Then finally, we enter our property to find they have done nothing to prepare for our arrival. As a result, we have had to dump our belongings on top of beds whilst we wait for JCP to carry out the end of tenancy processes that they should have completed before we arrived. We cannot currently live in a property that we are paying rent for and one of us has had to take time off of work to accommodate the maintenance that needs to be conducted. We still do not have an inventory to even report the condition we are faced with. Having failed to do any of the above, it begs the question what is a letting agent even for? Other than to copy and paste the same washed up tenancy agreements and cream off the top of every stakeholder's cash. I am angry, perturbed, distressed, and saddened. This is yet another example of how tenants are at the mercy of landlords and letting agents who have the monopoly on property in the United Kingdom, and sap everyday people of their money whilst doing the bare minimum in return. JCP will have to go a long way to change my opinion of them.

By far the worst experience we've ever had from an estate agent! It took over a month and a half to get our deposit back, meaning we very nearly could not pay the rent on our new flat and faced eviction. Typically deposits should be given back in 10 days, but this was not the case here. We were also charged over £300 in cleaning fees despite the fact we left the flat in a much better state than when we found it. They even tried to charge us for lightbulbs that were missing when we got there. They also used the classic strategy of charging us exorbitant cleaning fees and then trying to look reasonable by saying that we could meet them 'halfway' when there should have been no fees in the first place! The communication in particular was dire. We were constantly ringing and emailing trying to get hold of the office and being ignored. On the other hand, when it was time to get money from us the service suddenly became marvellously efficient! They also attempted to get us to pay 2 months rent in advance despite the fact that this was not in our original contract. If we had not disputed this and gone into their office I have no doubt they would have been happy to be in breach of contract and take the two months rent from us. Fortunately, our experience with Paramount Estate Agents in London has been far superior. There are good estate agents out there no doubt, but I definitely recommend avoiding this one!

I have been working with Zsofia with regards to renting a property (as a tenant), and so far the process has been very smooth and very easy. She has replied promptly to all of our doubts and concerns at every stage of the process, and has gone out of her way to make us feel comfortable and to clarify anything we requested. She is extremely professional and diligent in her work, and I am very grateful that I got to work with such a delightful person. In general, JCP as a whole seems to be a very well organised agency, with whom working is an easy process, in which all information is offered in a very transparent manner, and who are going to make sure you are understanding all the process you will go through from the first minute. I definitely recommend working with JCP Estate Agents if you're looking for a place to rent in Oxford!
