An unfortunate attitude from Hunters

My boyfriend and I were purchasing a property through Hunters and they were pleasant enough. However, when we received the results of the independent survey two months down the line, it highlighted what we considered to be significant problems with the property, particularly the necessity of a whole new roof, and the replacement of brickwork.Naturally, we had not - and could not have - factored in the cost of these repairs, or the time it would take to carry them out, so we emailed our contact at Hunters in Sunderland, simply outlining the issues that the survey had presented, and attaching the report in full. The reply we received explained ‘The seller is not under any obligation to carry out any work or offer a reduction’. While true, this attitude seemed hostile to us, and rather unprofessional. We did not mention a negotiation of price, or the current owners carrying out the work themselves - although, to be frank, these did not seem unreasonable expectations. We had misgivings about how considerable an undertaking the repairs would be, both financially and physically, but were open to discussing options with Hunters/the sellers. However, we decided to withdraw from the sale, and Hunters’ attitude did play a big part in that. As a prospective buyer, you do not have a choice over which estate agent to deal with, but I would certainly be reticent about purchasing a property sold by Hunters in the future, and would strongly advise sellers to consider the overwhelmingly negative reviews on this page before engaging Hunters, as the wrong estate agent could scupper a sale, as in this case.

I've had a great experience with Hunters. From the very start, their team has been professional, friendly, and incredibly responsive. They made the entire renting process smooth and stress-free, always keeping me updated and answering any questions promptly. The property I rented is in great condition, and I couldn't be happier with their service. As a Student I would highly recommend.

Dishonest and unprofessional

We drove over 250 miles to view a house listed for let @ £900. We said we like it and were happy to proceed, after all similar properties down south cost £1000 a month….We were absolutely shocked when they got back to us, offering us the house for £1000 because they knew we could afford it… we were aghast! I have never ever encountered such skullduggery and dishonesty…. Of course we declined… how can one deal with such a dishonest estate agent as these!

Waste of time

As working professionals who can rarely get free time during the weekdays, it's extremely annoying to book days off to view properties to find they're by application, and we submitted our application the day we viewed, only to have the application be rejected because it wasn't processed in time before the landlord accepted an alternative application. Not worth the time.

throughout my time renting with Hunters I have had a pleasant experience. Having dealt with Corina over the past year she has been very helpful if I had any issue regarding the property and everyone else at hunters was very helpful when she was not available(rarely) .Overall I have been satisfied with hunters Oxford and would be more than happy to rent with them again.

Very helpful and patient.

Very helpful, kind and considerate. We have just moved into our new home after lots of ups and downs which started with the Covid lockdown. Without going into detail we had a lot of problems with our respective buyers and sellers. Hunters at Pocklington were so supportive, patient and understanding and were with us at every step. I have no hesitation in recommending them.

Hunters Horncastle:

Hunters Horncastle:If you are looking for an EA who keeps you updated and informed then I would NOT use Hunters, if you want the privilege of paying for doing your own work then by all means use this EA, also if you want to feel as though the EA is acting on behalf of the buyer instead of the seller… this is the one for you!!! They say the right things to get the initial business and then offer bad advise and never any follow up or conversations about the state of the market during contract period, even when requested. Also emails and WA messages were ignored. Worst Estate Agent I’ve ever used. It seems that Katherine (who did the viewings) and Susan (admin) seem to hold them just above water and do all the donkey work. Just my honest opinion!! Would have given zero rating if possible

We used hunters to put our house up for sale

We used hunters to put our house up for sale in October 2024. Despite a few problems with surveys etc Hunters manged to sell our house to a cash buyer. the communication and updates during the process were very clear and professional. Selling a home is a very stressful experience however hunters helped us throughout the journey

My partner and I rented a property in Oxford through Hunters for 2 years and overall our experience with them was continuously warm and professional. The majority of our tenancy was handled by Corina, who continuously provided support during our experience in our home. We also had the pleasure of David's hospitality and professionalism when completing our tenancy in the office, a place which we always felt welcome to. Hunters continues to be ever supportive even after are tenancy was completed and would highly recommend there brilliant services to any one who is looking to rent within Oxford.

I was buying a house through hunters

I was buying a house through hunters, wasn’t the best experience in the world. When it came to getting the keys from the bishop Auckland office, I was told to wait outside in the cold for 15 minutes, then presented with 1 key by itself, there was no congrats on your first home or any welcome gifts or anything, just here’s your key, see you later 👍🏼😂 got into the house, it wasn’t clean, the kitchen had been flooded which warped all the kitchen floor which I then had to pay to get it sorted. They should have done a check once the owners were out the house in order to make sure it was in a fit state and as seen on the viewings. I’ve since rented out houses around that area and stayed well clear of hunters, I would never use them again after the experience I had with them.

Poor overall

Poor overall! The property we were interested in was over valued by more than 10% and yet they wanted offers in excess of ?! My communication with staff was defensive and not amiable not sure why! My advice check out your move to check the property is actually worth what they say it is? Before you buy 🤗

Hunters Portishead closed suddenly…

Hunters Portishead closed suddenly leaving my listing in the hands of the Bishopsworth branch. It remains to be seen how well they can operate without a presence in the town... February 9, 2024: my house sale concluded successfully although I still feel sellers are best served by having a local presence. I also feel that as companies become more centralized and rely too much on tech and AI, customers will seek out companies that have a more human interaction.

Worst nightmare you could have if you…

Worst nightmare you could have if you deal with Hunters Abbeywood. No repair on time, always defensive and lieing even when you present them with evidences for their unresponsiveness. Always be a judge in their own case and their manager is also part of them. Please avoid them

Hunters -Ealing

Hunters -Ealing Friendly professional, I can’t thank Steve enough. The time, energy and commitment, he was the bridge between both my solicitor and the buyers and was 100% committed. Everything went through Smoove and this was due to Steve and Hunters-Ealing. I have recommended them to other sellers and they will be always highly recommended by me

Flat 75, The Edge, Salford. Cockroache infestation.

Family member & friend rented for six months via Hunters Estate Agents, Manchester City Centre.Final straw was a cockroache infestation in Dec ‘23 invoking break clause on what should have been a 12 month lease. £1,800 per month rent. This is far from standard living conditions let alone what is marketed as “luxury”. Problems included:Broken bathroom extractor fan. Damp everywhere in main bathroom. Toilet blocked. No shower screen in main bathroom.Faulty door handles. External door has 1cm gap from door to frame (draft / noise from corridor).Faulty/loose mixer tap in kitchen sink. Sub standard finishing to kitchen cupboards / skirting boards. Doors leading onto balcony wouldn’t shut properly causing major drafts / loss of heat. Wardrobes doors & internal lights in main bedroom ill-fitted / faulty. Allocated car park spot was immediately behind another car meaning daily problems with parking / access. Hunters Estate Agents defensive & aggressive responses to problems raised and blamed on tenants.

We've just moved and used Hunters of Kingswood in Bristol as our estate agents. We have nothing but praise for their excellent service, caring attitude, friendliness and helpfulness throughout the process. There were problems with our buyer's solicitors being very very slow, but both Jade and Angie at this branch did as much as they possibly could to get things through.Well Done Hunters!

I can't tell you about my experience with a recent let as the only way I could get our deposit back was to agree not to complain about any aspect of the tenancy or the process of charges negotiation. I can tell you to be very careful about using this letting agent. They issue a notice to quit towards the end of each assured short hold tenancy rather than let the tenancy run-on so that they can raise the rent, knowing you are in situ and charge new fees for the tenancy agreement. Scrutinise your inventory and the check-out report in detail. Do not suggest you have any cause for complaint.

Last year in November i sold my house with Hunters. Due to reasons beyond my control the sale process was not as easy as anticipated however the reassurance and professionalism from hunters where outstanding. I went with hunters theough word or mouth and i have already recommended Hunters to friends who i know are selling or thinking of selling their property. They are an amazing team and so friendly. Thankyou ladies for making a difficult situation so bareable. We got there in the end.

Just don't use this Estate Agent

Just don't use this Estate Agent. And really don't use them to do an Inventory. They made so many errors we had to almost redo it ourselves. They missed the Fridge Freezer. Washing machine and Dishwasher in the Kitchen. They said there was a white wooden wardrobe in the bathroom, there isn't I could go on and on. I have asked for a refund but of course not heard anything!
