I recently bought a property through Darren, and he was excellent from start to finish. He is a straight-talking, no-nonsense agent who tells it like it is and doesn't waste your time. He made the entire purchasing process smooth, transparent, and completely stress-free. If you want an agent who gets the job done without the usual fluff, I highly recommend Darren from Hayes branch

Excellent experience with Hunters

We had an excellent experience with Hunters from start to finish. Richard, Brenda and Adam were fantastic throughout the entire process - always responsive, easy to contact, and happy to help with any questions we had. Everything ran smoothly with no issues at all, and their professionalism and communication made a potentially stressful process much easier. We would highly recommend Hunters to anyone looking to buy or sell a property.

5 star Estate Agents

We had issues with another local Estate Agent . Max at Hunters went above and beyond to prove good, in fact great , Trustworthy Estate Agents exist. Max went above and beyond to deliver an exceptional first class service, made everything easy to follow in laymans terms, and was a pleasure to interact with. Very efficient, superb service and exceeded our expectations. Hunters secured a buyer for our flat within 11 days and to exact Market Value they recommended.

One of my worst experience buying a house from hunters

One of my worst experience buying a house from hunters auction. House was listed on website and tenanted for a fixed amount of rent which I was told by the auction agent called Robert. Also house was in bad state but got told tenants don’t care so why do you. Only to find out later on that tenants have never paid anywhere near that amount and it’s so much lower. So was lied to first of all and then later to meet the tenants and for them to tell us all the work they was promised and they wanted the house fixing top to bottom. What an absolute joke and waste of time and money. Keep your money and go elsewhere they will tell you anything just to sell a house that is overpriced

Rude, poor service - a must avoid for renters

Rude, get passed around from pillar to post while they try to ignore your requests or questions. Tried for years to get them to fix things but just continually fell on deaf ears. Now they're trying to claim issues are my fault which are down to shoddy contractors (which they use consistently, including at one point despite having had yearly gas checks, I get told that the previous 6 years hasn't been done properly and the build up that caused a leak was because of this. Everything is everyone's issue but theirs. Renters, avoid at all costs!

Kim Jones from the Chapeltown Sheffield Hunters sold my house for me. She was extremely professional and knowledgable of every aspect of the sale. She was my rock throughout the whole process. Thank you Kim and the rest of the Hunters team for your support

Very happy with Darren Bailey who handled the sale of our house in Hayes, Middx. He was helpful, understanding and patient throughout, as well as being a good communicator. I would also like to commend Demi who did most of the viewings. Very happy to recommend Hunter’s.

Poor service & communication

As a non-UK resident landlord who had used Hunters York for their tenant-find service before, I approached their lettings manager about the criteria for a rent review in the case of referral to a tribunal . She said that she didn´t know what the criteria would be and suggested £100 pcm without any reference to the value of the property or period since the rent was last reviewed. She was quite unwilling and defensive about discussing the issue further. I found out later from ChatGPT that the criteria for rent reviews is the current market rent which in our case would have indicated an increase of at least £500pcm since last reviewed over three years ago. Several weeks later, after our tenants gave notice, I enquired for a quotation to use their tenant-find service and had no reply. It´s possible that they no longer offer a "tenant-find" service for non-UK residents landlords, (only a fully managed service which we don't need or want) even for previous clients, but it was annoying to have no reply.

Excellant service

Moving can be hectic, but Dulcie made it so simple with her support, prompt communication, and quick responses from the first viewing in Cullompton right through to the day I collected the keys. She was professional, reassuring, and always ready to help.

Awful customer service

I remain deeply disappointed in the way my most recent complaint has been handled at their Newcastle branch. The way the branch manager speaks to tenants is appalling! If you have a complaint then don’t expect any sympathy or accountability. We have rented this property for 11 years and in that time, we have been superb tenants but sadly that doesn’t mean anything to them. I anticipate a reply to this which will more than likely attempt to completely contradict what I’ve written here but just know that our experience has not been a positive one!

HUNTERS BLACKPOOL- Waste of space

If you ever need a letting agent to look after your property, give this shower a wide berth. All they do is take their commission every month. I used them for around 10 years to look after my property and they only ever carried out one inspection during that time. They never accept any responsibility for any issues, they never reply to any emails whatsoever, they are a total waste of time and space. Look elsewhere if you need a proper service provider because Hunters Blackpool most certainly is not in my opinion.

5 years renting with no issues at all

I rented an apartment through Hunters (Otley & Ilkley) for five years and honestly had a great experience the whole time. They were always quick to reply, super easy to deal with, and sorted any issues straight away - no chasing needed. Communication with the landlord was also really smooth thanks to them. Big thanks to Donna, Libby, and Leister for being so helpful and friendly over the years. Would definitely recommend Hunters if you're looking for a letting agent you can rely on.

My experience selling a property in the…

My experience selling a property in the UK with this agent was extremely frustrating. For over four months, they delayed the transaction. Despite my constant follow-ups, they kept giving me excuse after excuse, like mortgage problems or minor issues, saying it would happen next week. Eventually, I told them I would pull out and sell to another buyer, but Matthew insisted I still had to pay. I also want to warn people about this company, be very cautious, because in the contract, they include terms that are unfavorable to the client. Once you sign, they do very little to follow up, and you can’t even be sure if the buyer will complete the deal. Their main priority is just getting you to sign, and regardless of whether the sale happens, they still take your money. And when I tried to back out, Matthew actually threatened me, saying that if I didn’t pay, they would escalate it to other departments. I feel this is a form of intimidation.”

Several years ago, I rented with Hunters. In my opinion they were a negligent, contemptuous and xenophobic estate agent. My original review of them was 5 stars. The reason for this is that, a few days before estate agent fees were made illegal, rather than just implementing the law early, they told me I would be liable for fees to provide a reference for my next landlord, but that they would waive them if I gave them a positive review. My partner was not given this option and had to pay his £30 fee for a reference. We needed the money so I complied to save my £30. It was a humiliating experience, especially since our tenancy ended literally days before it would have been illegal to charge these fees, and many estate agents had already stopped charging them. It also may count as them paying for a review, which is legally murky at best. I still have emails from Corina that prove all of this. I found Hunters to be very snobby, considering there to be a wrong and right sort of tenant. They liked us (we were scared of eviction and put up with things I wouldn’t tolerate now) but would complain about how difficult other tenants were. Their contempt for most tenants shone through, and made it clear that we would be among that number if we raised concerns too much. And we weren’t short of problems. Our flat was impossible to heat adequately, often leaving us confined to one room, and the only radiator in the open-plan living area was clearly broken, as was an electric heater left behind by the last tenant. When we moved in, they knew about the issues from previous tenants, but dismissed it as because the previous tenants were foreign and ‘used to warmer temperatures’. It actually posed a severe health risk and my physical and mental health declined as a result of the inadequate heating. A few weeks after our tenancy ended, I went back to the flat to pick up some mail. The new tenant was suffering in the cold but seemed to also be struggling to convince Hunters that there was a problem. She had bought thermometers which were clearly displaying unsafe indoor temperatures while I was there to pick up the post - she was distressed and invited me in to show me. The radiator was barely warm to the touch. The gaslighting and neglect of duty towards tenants seems to have been a chronic problem in that flat alone. I hope and assume that the tenant has now moved out and won’t get in trouble for me posting this - this is the reason I didn’t change my review sooner. Tenants who complain about disrepair are statistically more likely to be evicted, and I believe that Hunters cynically take advantage of this power imbalance to get away with neglect of their duties. I paid absurdly high fees (now illegal thanks to amazing campaigning by unionised tenants) for abysmal service while with Hunters. I was worried about speaking out for fear of eviction or being given a bad reference. Now I have nothing to lose or to gain, so I wanted to write this honest review. I personally wouldn’t trust any 5 star reviews of Hunters for one second.

Agent replied

Dear Imogen, Thank you for your recent review. We are very surprised, perplexed, and disappointed to read it. Your initial 5 star review in May 2019 stated: “I have come to expect very prompt responses to maintenance issues from Hunters, in keeping with their exceptional standards. They have proven to be consistently efficient, thorough and professional.” From our file it appears that the reference written by us on your behalf on 30 May 2019 was actually sent before you gave this 5 star review. Our email to you of the same date includes and states: “Dear Imogen, thank you for agreeing to provide us with a review. This is much appreciated. Unfortunately, I was not able to find the Google review Imogen posted. I have however gone ahead and completed your references so there are no delays there.” You responded by email dated 30 May 2019 stating: “I attach a screenshot of the review. Thank you so much for completing the references so promptly! We will be very sorry to leave! We have loved the flat - our first home in Oxford - but moving forward as a couple we feel a little more space inside and out would be a good next step. We will certainly miss Hunters’ reliability. Best, Imogen.” An earlier email from you of 1 May 2019 stated: “Thank you so much for such a prompt response! (Though we have come to expect nothing less, considering Hunters’ exceptional standards.) I hope you have a lovely May Day. All best wishes, Imogen.” An email from your then partner and co-tenant (J) dated 5 November 2019 states: “I would like once again to say that Imogen and I loved our time in [address], and had a lovely experience renting the property with Hunters; everyone’s professionalism and their swift and helpful replies really put us both at ease. Best wishes.” A further email from J dated 11 November 2019 states: “Many thanks for getting back to Imogen and I so quickly. My sincere thanks again for everything Hunters has done in this process!” A final email from you of 11 November 2019 stated: “I’d like to reiterate what a joy it was to live at [address]. We always felt secure knowing Hunters to be reliable and competent. Thank you for all your assistance and professionalism. All best wishes, Imogen.” In light of all these complimentary comments (given freely by you, both before and after we provided references for you), we now cannot understand the reason for your latest uncomplimentary review, after 6 years, having had no contact or dealings with you since then. On any objective view, it cannot, in the circumstances, be because of the service you received from Hunters, which in your own words was exemplary. Your erroneous assertions of negligence, contempt, and xenophobia and other false allegations have no foundation or merit and appear, for some unknown reason, to have been wholly and totally fabricated and concocted by you. You and your co-tenant also renewed your tenancy for a further year in August 2018. We fail to understand why you would do this if you were so unhappy living at the property. You state that the tenant who moved into the property after you was also unhappy. However, that tenant also renewed her tenancy for a further year and stated in an email to us dated 16 August 2021 (after living in the property for two years): “Thank you so much for your work and kindness, kind regards…”. This behaviour and course of conduct does not indicate an unhappy tenant. You state that you have nothing to lose or gain by now giving this review. However, you had nothing to lose or gain in November 2019 after your references had been given and your full deposit (without any deductions) had been returned to you in September 2019. Yet you still wrote very complimentary emails at that time. We are finding it very difficult to reconcile and understand your two divergent positions, and although you state that you want to write an honest review, this latest review of yours is, regrettably, as far from honest as it can be. Best wishes.

Hunters estate agents York the worst I’ve come across

What a lousy estate agents the York branch is, I went to see a house but not all the keys were brought to the viewing the lady called Jenna wanted to rush me around she insisted we had to leave early. This lady was very rude. I sent a list of questions I wanted answering three weeks ago I also requested a second viewing and the keys for full access but my emails and telephone calls went unanswered. I suggest that Hunters should get out of the business of selling houses because they are a clueless bunch of people and I recommend you don’t buy or sell a house from Hunters. No wonder they get 1 stars it seems everybody else has had a bad experience with them.

Brilliant estate agent

We purchased our house through the Bishop Auckland branch of Hunters. If it hadn't been for the excellent service, help and assistance of all at the branch I doubt if the purchase would have happened. If you want to sell or buy do it through Hunters. The offer of assistance after the sale was much appreciated. I cannot recommend Hunters highly enough.

Robot refused to give me a viewing

Awful experience trying to arrange a viewing. Spent yonks on the phone with a robot. It asked me unnecessary questions and misheard things; then had to reconfirm everything. Eventually it was happy. I hung up and it started again this time by text. In the end it refused to let me have a viewing unless I told them my spending budget - which I wasn't prepared to do. Do not sell your property through these idiots.

Placed an offer of the full asking…

Placed an offer of the full asking price on a property in Sutton Coldfield. It was a one bedroom 1st floor flat in Wylde Green and I fell in love with it. The Agent said she had already had an offer in the morning. Despite the property being on the market for several weeks. She indicated that my offer was higher and she would put it to the vendor. Later that day she came back to me to say that the vendor had accepted the lower offer as the vendor stated that the buyer that visited in the morning of the same day was paying cash and that the vendor felt it was a more reliable offer as one sale had already fell through. I offered to take the full asking price around to the local branch in cash and asked if that would prove to the vendor that I was an honorable buyer. No reply from Hunters. Therefore this furthers my reluctance to use any of the “reputable” estate agents to ever sell any of my properties. Absolutely disgusting. I put my money where my mouth is and it was ignored. Don’t touch them if you’re a vendor !!!! You might get less than you expected for your property. I sometimes think it’s the estate agent who decides who’s buying the property and not the vendor.

Disappointed

Disappointed, we learned our house purchase had fallen through at the point of us being ready to exchange on our property. We found out that the office had known about it and left it to the agent, who had been looking after us, to tell us after she came back from annual leave! We never got a reason for the purchase to fall through and they even tried delaying us putting an offer in on another property. Luckily this was with another agent and we trusted our gut as the trust with Hunters had gone. 7 weeks later we were in our new home. Felt let down and disappointed with Hunters. This was our first and last time dealing with them.
