GoogleThe agent asked me to increase my asking-price offer and enter a bidding war, and when I declined, my offer was unsurprisingly accepted. After paying a holding deposit, I was sent a referencing link that did not work, and when I chased, I was told I was too early to undergo the process. When I started referencing, nothing seemed to happen, and I had to chase them too. Referencing then came back several weeks later and said I earned 5x less than what I had stated, to which no input from my accountant or payroll firm resolved. When I then asked for a refund, the agent lied and said that I would categorically not be receiving a refund as I had failed referencing. When I asked again, I was ignored, and the only way that I was able to get my £309 back was to write a formal email stating my rights under the Tenant Fees Act. Overall, an absolute shambles and what felt like a scam. I am reporting them to Trading Standards.
