Brilliant Cambridge North service from Carter Jonas

What wonderful service we have had from Sasha and the team at the Cambridge North branch of Carter Jonas. Communication was excellent as was keeping the sale information and process as swift as possible. Very unhelpful, my Husband has been looking at industrial units for rent to start up a business. We saw some advertised with Cartier Jonas so he reached out to the contact listed and he had to chase her several times before she final called him back. She said ‘the reason I didn’t come back to you is because I don’t have anything suitable’, she also recommended he use ‘Gum Tree’ to find a suitable property to start his business. I was shocked with her behaviour, if you don’t have anything suitable you still respond to people to let them know. Also how embarrassing that she would think he could find suitable business premises on gumtree! Another month passed and again we found some suitable units and so I called and left a voicemail for and also with her secretary who said she’d be in touch and to this day we’re not heard anything. Awful customer service by at Carter Jonas.

Excellent house sale experience

Selling a family home after 30 years is not simple! We did that at the end of last year and I would probably be still recovering in a darkened room had it not been for Rupert Reeves and the team in Newbury. Rupert could not have been more helpful, calm and professional throughout. He knew what we were looking for and organised everything from the photographs, the brochure and the viewings right through to completion. It was not a straightforward sale but Rupert knew exactly what needed doing, negotiated honestly and liaised between us, the solicitor and purchasers, always being friendly, approachable and kind throughout, even in the more tense moments.

Carter Jonas in Winchester recently sold my late mother's house and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From the initial visit through to completion Alison and Chris were interested, helpful and utterly professional. Other agents viewed the property but none was actually interested in doing the best for us, so this is where Carter Jonas won hands down. Although the sale process experienced a few glitches (to be expected) their careful handling of all sides kept it on track, an outcome I believe a lesser agent wouldn't have achieved. I would recommend them without reservation.

David Walker was our contact and he went above and beyond to address issues with solicitors and the estate management company that were delaying the purchase. Worst Tenancy Experience

I rented with Carter Jonas because the location of the flat was perfect for my work. My initial contact with Carter Jonas sales/rentals was very pleasant. Sadly most everything related my experience with Carter Jonas was negative. When I moved in, my mum and I spent hours (around 7 hrs each) cleaning the flat. Black dust was coating the entire living room bookshelf unit, and the shower and other appliances required extensive scrubbing. The carpet had not been vacuumed under the sofa or chairs, and when I rearranged the furniture, there was gross stuff underneath. The upholstery was so dirty that I bought covers for the chair and sofa. I spent a couple of hours completely redoing the move-in inventory because it was very incomplete and didn't make note of any of the problems with the flat. Several appliances/ lights didn't work when I moved in, and I had to deal with getting repairmen into the flat. The toilet lid was broken, and the towel heater didn't work at all. One of the living room light fixtures was noticeably cracked, the stove light didn't work, there were large cracks all over the walls, and I could keep going. That was just move-in. Thankfully I was able to get the contact information of a maintenance person (who I think worked for the landlord, not Carter Jonas), and he was very helpful. The leasing agent was unresponsive when I tried contacting her about the uncleanness/maintenance needs of the flat. I sent pictures of everything along with the completed inventory report to ensure that my deposit wouldn't be affected, but didn't receive a response. The Carter Jonas agent was also rude and ambiguous about residential parking. The common areas of the building were NEVER cleaned. And sometimes rubbish overflowed the bins. Once Carter Jonas sent a rather aggressive email to all residents of the building about this rubbish situation, which was inappropriate for those of us who were using the bins within reason. Move-out was the worst part, with Carter Jonas trying to charge more than the legal guidelines for breaking a lease (especially during a pandemic; I became unemployed, and this was why I had to break my lease). They also hassled me to keep part of my deposit for "cleaning," even though I left the flat very clean (far cleaner than I found it!). This was such a waste of my time, but I appealed on principle, and finally with the help of a third party (the deposit protection scheme) received my full deposit.I could say more, but in short, I don't plan to do business with Carter Jonas again or recommend them to anyone.

Dirty on arrival, clean on departure, still charged a extortionate cleaning fee

My daughter + 3 foreign students rented a student property in Cambridge from Carter Jonas from September 2019. From signing the contracts until the week before move in regular abrupt / threatening emails requesting details of guarantors that had already been sorted out. On moving in day, a young girl showed us around a dirty, shoddy, poorly maintained, badly repaired dump of a house. All of the furniture was old, broken, stained or missing. All the carpets we old, warn and stained. Some light fitting was from the 1950's, the bath and sinks we so badly fitted they had inch thick lumpy mouldy silicone around them. The door under the sink was rotten and all the cupboards were greasy. Water was pouring from an overflow in the roof. The bathroom floor was made of loose rotten wood tiles, the back door had a huge gap under it and a cat flap hole in the kitchen door, which didn’t close properly, that did get covered with a bit of ply when they complained about how cold it was in winter. There were items left by previous occupants, old modems, broken suitcases, the outside bins were overflowing. Many, many notes were taken by the agent detailing how dirty it was and we took photos. The fridge and freezer had mouldy food in it and it had not had an end of tenancy clean. I had to leave my daughter there, we tried to make her room liveable, cleaning surfaces and vacuuming but the vacuum cleaner was hopeless. The other girls moved in over the next few days, cleaning their own rooms so they could move their stuff in. A replacement fridge freezer was bought in. 5 days later the carpets were cleaned, still stained but a bit better, and a cleaning firm cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, it took less than an hour, the oven door was still stained and the kitchen was still greasy. Fast forward a few months, the girls did not want to stay in the house another year so it was put up to let by Carter Jonas again. They let potential tenants wonder around the house on their own, several bottles of alcohol were stolen at one time, reported to Carter Jonas but nothing was done to trace the culprits. Covid hit, many viewings still going ahead, one girl with flu symptoms in her bedroom was invaded by an agent and viewers. 2 girls left in April, the other one end of May. We collected our daughter at the end of May as well, she didn't want to leave the other girl on her own. The house was empty June, July and August but all their possessions were still there. While it was empty, the landlord had some work done, fair enough, fitted new floors in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom, which was rotten wood before. A few days before the move out day we drove up to move her out, one other tenant came back as well, not living in the house, but with her boyfriend. We packed and put everything into storage then started giving it a good clean. My daughter did her room + helped upstairs, the other girl did upstairs bedrooms and bathroom, I did the living room, kitchen and downstairs bathroom. We worked for 3 hours that day, stayed in a hotel over night the cleaned for 5 hours the next day. It was thoroughly cleaned, although the vacuum cleaner was so bad there was a few bits if fluff left. 2 weeks later when I enquired as to why the deposit had not been returned, we were told it was not clean. They sent loads of photos of tiny bits of fluff, a bit of dust on the banister, the odd cobweb that was missed, nothing major, about 10 minutes work with a duster and a decent vacuum cleaner. There was 5 photos of the same bit of dried grass on the doormat, a photo of a previously paint stained crooked shelf because it had a penny on it. Most of the photos showed disrepair, poorly fitted or previously broken on arrival things that had been cleaned but due to being broken or badly fitted still looked bad, you can't polish a t**d!The girls were charged over £400 for a cleaning fee.They were also charger £22 each for £4.50 mattress protectors as they didn’t know they had to replace them. The girls paid £24,000 + fees to stay in that tatty, cold, draughty house. It was 1000 x cleaner when they left than when they arrived but still got charged for a 'deep clean'. Avoid.
