Asked to view a property on Bures Road and was told I had to provide proof of funds before even being allowed a viewing. I understand proof of funds is needed at offer stage but demanding it just to view a house is unnecessary and comes across as rude and intrusive; the tone felt more like an interrogation. And for clarity, questioning an asking price is not the same as being unable to afford a property. In a previous transaction, we declined to overpay for a house we did not believe was worth its asking price, and it later sold for significantly less. That is a valuation judgement (a mistake by the same agent), not a funding issue.
In any case, the interaction felt dismissive, rather than professional. Plenty of other agents manage to handle high-value properties professionally without treating potential buyers like time wasters. So choosing to take my business elsewhere.

For properties of this nature, we routinely confirm a buyer’s position prior to arranging viewings. This is done to ensure that viewings are offered to proceedable and suitably positioned applicants, and to protect our clients’ interests. Requesting an outline of funding or proof of funds at this stage is not intended to be intrusive, nor is it a judgement on affordability, but rather a normal part of qualifying enquiries for high-value properties.
At no point was it suggested that questioning an asking price equates to an inability to proceed. Valuation discussions are, of course, a normal part of the market. However, understanding a buyer’s position remains essential when managing demand, expectations, and access to viewings on behalf of our vendors.
We regret if the tone of the conversation did not come across as intended, but we are confident that our conduct was professional and appropriate. Many buyers appreciate this clarity and structure, particularly at the upper end of the market.

I initially approached this company after viewing a property they were marketing and considering making an offer.
However, I was told they wouldn’t take on my own property as it was “outside their remit.” This didn’t appear accurate, as I’ve since seen them advertise several similar properties in my local area, both in size and value.
When I challenged this, they reluctantly agreed to proceed. Unfortunately, their overall manner came across as rude, patronising, and unprofessional, which did not inspire confidence. As a result, I decided to instruct another estate agent.

As renter Jackson Stops decided to share my employer details & work email address with all the residents of the block of flats I lived in. Which lead to another resident using my work email, this was previously unknown to the other residents. When questioned they felt this was a minor data breach and not worthy to be referred to the ICO, as it was a staff mistake which was OK!
Six months arter moving out of the property Jackson Stops felt it was appropriate to give my personal telephone number to a contractor to organise repairs to the flat I had moved out from,
Jackson Stops did not believe this was a data breach they said it was an “inconvenience”.
I thought six months after leaving the property they would not be giving my personal data out without my consent !
