My dealings with Barney Estates particularly Patrick Quigley have been very positive. A Barney Estates for sale sign suddenly appeared on a piece of rural land overlooking my house. I was very sceptical of who Barney Estates were and expected them to be very corporate and unapproachable. The land was up for auction in 5 days time and I had no idea what that involved. I picked up the phone and it was answered by Patrick. He was very approachable and took the time to explain to me what was involved in the auction process and how to go about it. He also said that the vendors may be happy to sell pre auction. I made an offer through Patrick which the vendors accepted. Patrick then sent me the vendors legal pack which I read. Patrick called me later and asked if I had read the pack, he then asked if I had seen a couple of clauses in there which I had totally missed. Patrick then negotiated with the vendor to remove them which he did successfully. The completion deadline was very short and at one point I wasn’t sure if I could meet the timescale. Patrick contacted the vendor to see if they would extend the time limit. In the end this wasn’t necessary but, it was very reassuring that I could pick up the phone and contact Patrick when needed (he even phoned in the evening once after work had finished). Barney Estates and Auctioneers are a very reputable company and Patrick Quigely is very helpful and an asset to them.

Be very careful when dealing with this…

Be very careful when dealing with this company. They operate on the strength of some questionable clients (who use a solicitor that’s just been closed down by the Solicitor’s Regulatory Authority) and are more than happy to sell land for clients who do not hold the registered title to the land. It is perfectly legal to sell ‘back to back’ like this. However if the land sale falls through with the initial landowner, subsequent sales then collapse. This means the onward buyers have to fight to get their auction fee back and their deposit back from the seller who is not the landowner.

Land Purchase

We bought a plot of land off auction. We negotiated a purchase price and agreed to the deal - Joe and Elliot were really helpful during the entire process. The reason I have only given 3 stars is there were a lot of charges hidden in the contract (e.g. Buyers Premium, contribution to sellers solicitors) plus an overage, none of which were mentioned during all discussions or included in the invoice from Barneys. Yes, it was all in the contract but it would have been really useful if Barney's could have made ALL fees and future overage costs easily visible at the start of the process. We ended up paying about 30% more than the purchase price to cover all of the fees, some of which were visible at the start and some not. This was the first time we had purchased land through this type of process so were a bit caught out by these charges. I know a solicitor could pick this up, but Barney's could have made this all more visible.

Good company to deal with both amiee and hollie are very honest and good people to deal with they can not do enough to make the transaction go as smoothly as possible if I could give more stars I would this was for a two sales which finished near the £300,000 mark so you know you are in good hands with this company second sale completed in less than 7days they market the product good as well so weather you be a seller or a buyer you know you are in good hands

Highly recommend !

I recently completed my land purchase with Barney Estates. I had a lot of questions regarding the costs and clauses within the contracts. Be very careful

Originally I left a review and then I took it off cos I thought Amiee was actually being genuine. It’s all a scam, they sold me a parcel of land with no access, but yet on their brochure it’s shows access. Access which has no connection to my parcel of land. It’s only when I visited the site I was told I was trespassing as the road was privately owned. The owner had written to the seller (strategic holdings 1 to 9) legal that they couldn’t use his road to access the parcels of land. Yet Barney Estate concealed this information in order to obtain a sale. My advise is never use an online auction house especially one which is not transparent in their dealings and will break their own code of conduct to make money. They are ruthless, have lost 10kg in the process of dealing with these white collar criminals. The seller is now seeking £10500 through insolvency, for the two day extra to his original completion date. Who completes a sale in 6 days. I offered to walk away, allowing them keep my £31,000 and the land which they rejected. Which makes perfect sense as land is worthless to them cos there’s no access. When you deal with reputable companies you won’t experience these issues. Regardless what you think I have witnesses, both have said I don’t have access and they live there. Some much for due diligence, charging £3300 for absolutely nothing. I will leave a negative comment every week to stop you from defrauding people.
