I’ve been living in a Citu house for just over 3 years now and it’s been a mixed bag. I love the style, location, and convenience and the transformation of the area has been impressive to watch. Unfortunately, I’ve also had a number of snagging issues and the after sales support has been, at times, pretty poor. There’s a tile coming away from the wall and a crack in the shower tray that I would suggest are a result of settlement and/or installation issues (see photos) that Citu should be putting right, but they have deemed them maintenance issues and not their problem. Despite escalating this complaint in November, it wasn’t until after chasing them in December, February, and April that the customer service manager responded (and again refused to help). Meanwhile, I’ve now had leaks in both bathrooms, one from a toilet and one from a sink. Whilst investigating the leak from the toilet, I’ve discovered various bits of rubbish left behind the plasterboard, including an old banana skin (again, see photos). There were other issues, including some wildly out of tolerance window frames, that have been rectified but my overall impression of the quality of the workmanship is distinctly average.

I stumbled upon the Citu development by accident whilst out walking with friends. As chartered building surveyor and advocate of modern methods of construction and sustainable living I was delighted to be allowed the opportunity to look around the show home. Sharan was incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable about the scheme and the methods of construction utilised, and she made us feel incredibly welcome. As the public face of Citu she was brilliant advertisement for the company and nothing was too much trouble. If you’re curious about this type of construction and style of living go see Sharan it’s well worth your time.

3 years in a Citu home

My husband and I went to view the Citu houses and fell in love. They are gorgeous, and we love how environmentally friendly they are. Also, Sharan was a pleasure to work with and answered every one of our questions, and my husband had a million of them. Ultimately, when did not go with Citu, but it was a top contender.

Great service all round! Especially Sharan was exceptional in her approach and attitude. I wasn’t even the buyer but as a parter I was treated with the same respect and consideration. From the first viewing in June to the completion (on the eventually different property) in December, she made us both feel looked after and her flexibility of offering different options ended up in my partner getting a beautiful new home! I would recommend Citu if you want to choose a place that offers sustainability, community and outstanding service!

We have been looking for a property to retire to and were very interested in the Passivhaus standards used by Citu. Sharan showed us the Kirkstall site which we found to be too hemmed in for us. So she encouraged us to view a property at the South Leeds site. We were very tempted but have postponed our decision for a while. We need to consider the amount of storage and garden size available. Sharan has been so friendly and helpful- a great member of their team. She has booked in to call us again in a few months time

The people at CITU have been professional, helpful and supportive throughout all our dealings with them! We wanted to look at something slightly different to plan and the team supported us with our request and bent over backwards to help us, whilst giving us great input and guidance in some of our decision making. The leadership team are amazing, Lucy is amazing and the experience they've given us throughout has been some of the best we've experienced in a house purchase capacity. Wonderful Experience with Citu

When I first got to the Citu show house I met with Hannah. She was lovely to speak with and extremely knowledgable about Citu and what they offer.I then met with Sharan, whose passion and enthusiasm for all things Citu was palpable. She took me through the details of construction including a demo of the wall system. She then answered every question I had, with an impressive amount of detail.We then walked through the development and she even took the time to show me the apartments. Sharan is an absolute credit to Citu and they are extremely lucky to have her.

I have recently been supported by Citu in moving towards purchasing a property at their Leeds Stall site in Kirkstall. I was welcomed by Pete and Jane with the kind of hospitality and greeting so important to a neighbourhood. After such a warm first impression, I met with Sharan, who went through viewings with me in detail, and encouraged me in my property goals. Sharan was able to set up financial advice with advisor Coe, which helped to identify what I need to do and where I need to be to make a Citu home a reality as soon as I possibly can. The sites at Leeds City and Kirkstall are so impressive. I am drawn to living somewhere that does not have a road and cars parked immediately outside the front door. Stall has beautiful landscaping and is sheltered by trees and the adjacent waterways. I am a regular commuter by the waterways, cycling, running and walking via the towing path to then connect with road and rail as part of any journey planning I do. This kind of infrastructure to me has to be the future in reducing traffic everywhere and reprioritising how we travel, similarly to Holland. There are so many old mill sites on these waterways, I hope to see even more Citus with the Passive Haus technology alongside or in place of these in the future. And to live somewhere like this in the not so distant future. For now, Armley will stay the place for me <3 Thank you so much, and I look forward to hearing more about your work and seeing even more Citus everywhere!

One day we will buy an eco house and when we do our first choice will be with Citu. Why? Because of the incredibly high quality of service we received from Nina and her team, when we looked at one of their properties recently. We had a lot of questions! She answered them all - and then some! There was huge attention to detail in responding; no side stepping, no waffle and, what meant the most (given that my partner is seriously ill), integrity and kindness. It wasn't quite the right time for us to buy - but we will be back when it is.

Educational visit

I recently took a group of Y12 students to the CITU site in Leeds, where Charlie gave us an extensive tour of the site; highlighting the key sustainable innovations used in building homes and designing the site to enhance the well-being of residents. The visit should be incorporated into every design based educational curriculum. Charlie was engaging and highly knowledgeable, the students went away inspired by the wide variety of careers offered by the group.

Expensive mistake?

Like many other purchasors, we have many defects with our home. Citu have been made aware of the problems, but either don't reply or take months to do nothing. It's such a shame as the idea of the Climate Innovation District is a great one, but Citu themselves have somehow turned it into a disaster of leaky roofs, wobbly cladding, inadequate security, failing gates, thefts and planning contraventions.Here's their reply of 2nd July:"Sorry that you have felt the need to express your feedback with us here. We would welcome the opportunity to resolve your situation by contacting our Customer Service team at xxxx as we are unable to identify who you are. Sincerely, The Citu Team."Paraphrasing - "we're not sorry about the problems, just sorry you're complaining about them."It's disingeneous at best and probably quite dishonest to suggest you've not had the opportunity to resolve the many issues residents are experiencing as they've been raised with you many, many times both directly with your representative AB and via the residents committee.A better reply would be to :1, accept that there are many long-standing problems at CID, 2. concede that you have over the past few years done a very sub-par job at resolving them3. Publicly commit to fixing them4. Seek public confirmation that you have indeed done so5. Demonstrated how you have put in place process to ensure a better quality of workmanship, more honest feedback and were able to demonstrate you were acting with integrity rather than just coming on here and snarking at people with legitimate, serious unnresovled problems.As things stand, it's a shame that residents are resorting to legal action to address the many serious problems in design and how you built these houses.

We have recently had viewings at the Climate Innovation District and Citu's new development at Kirkstall. Thank you Nina for such enjoyable and informative viewings at both sites. Nina took time to show us different options and was enthusiastic about both the ethos of Citu and the community that is growing in the district. In a world where climate change will have such an impact on the way we live, it is heartening to find somewhere that will allow people to live more sustainably. And finally as a former lecturer in horticulture, I have to mention the amazing planting that is going on. By itself it will increase biodiversity and encourage wildlife. Very well done to Claude for his work outside. Everywhere will be abuzz with bees and butterflies.

So we visited Citu Leeds, in truth because we were nosey and wanted to learn more about these eco homes.. We were genuinely blown away by the development. We found it incredibly refreshing and unique in its approach, certainly for the UK. It has a real community feel about it, why? Because it is a community! Communal gardens and leasehold agreements. Built along the lines of the Passivhaus philosophy...highly insulated, incorporating solar and air source heating. Not a radiator in sight and very comfortable. For me the joy was that these buildings were honest and true to their materials,you will not find mock tudor here or recon stone and breeze block. A modern interpretation of terraced/back to backs and a post modern feel to the apartments. Both the hard and soft landscaping is to be commended and best of all ...the spaces between the houses weren't littered with cars blocking access and sat dominating views from the front doors...they are doomed to be parked in the underground facility. I loved details like the corten mail boxes and pedestrian foot bridge linking the sites across the River Aire, literally a stones throw from the Royal Armouries. Acess to Leeds is fast and easy..by foot and bike! Ideal for folk working in the city. Bills!! They will be waay smaller than most could possibly imagine for a similar sized trad property, clean living and pub / brewery oferring xlnt pale ale to boot. Whats not to like??. Citu deserve to be applauded for their efforts, blazing a trail that other developers ought to sit up and follow...this is the way fwd 👍🏻

I am writing to express my deep…

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with Citu and their appointed agent regarding a serious issue that has been ongoing for nearly two years. Citu and their agent (as confirmed by one of their own property representatives) took nearly £10,000 from us and subsequently altered the property deal, making it uneconomical for us to proceed with the purchase of the flat. I have raised this matter directly with Citu and even emailed the CEO, Jonathan Wilson, but have received no response. Citu has since directed me back to the agent, who has refused to assist. As a result, both Citu and their agent have effectively declined to resolve the situation. After two years of trying to reach a fair resolution, I remain extremely unhappy with how this matter has been handled and urgently request that it be properly reviewed and addressed. I would like Citu to contact me to resolve this issue. Citu were working with the agent so they bear some of the responsiblity which thay have failed to admit. The CEO said he would deal with this but failed to respond. I am unahappy with the terrible service and feel I have been SCAMMED and conned by Citu. A warning to others.

The long wait from reserving off plan to finally moving into an Aire Loft was worth it.. we love living here in our beautiful Loft. Peaceful and beautiful riverside living (despite building work still in process on the site) and 15 mins walk from all that Leeds city centre has to offer. Thank you to Andy and Danielle for helping us through the process. Any minor snags have been dealt with and Andy and the rest of the Citu team quickly & professionally deal with any minor issues. Had a great experience buying with Citu, almost nothing gone wrong with my flat after the first year and anything that did need rectifying has been done so promptly. Buying a home isn't usually a nice experience but Citu make it as easy as it can be, and the development looks great.
