Working with Matt Bird has been such a lovely experience. My partner and I are expats who just moved from California and we had many agents make outrageous requests due to not being UK citizens (months of rent up front, 3 year leases). Matt was the complete opposite. He took the time to understand our situation, and worked with us. He explained the differences in the UK versus US leasing, and helped through every step of the process. He went above and beyond to answer even the silliest of questions. I could not recommend him enough.

Very impressed with the rental experience via Matt Bird at the Clerkenwell office. During our search, we messaged out of hours and he responded very quickly. He didn’t push properties at us, rather he made good use of our little time, he didn’t just show up with keys, but with answers to questions and within our parameters he thought out of the box in terms of what to show us. Thank you Matt - you were tremendously helpful when others were just flooding us with guff!

This bad for landlords because they get poor management, bad for tenants because they get poor representation, and bad for the industry because estate / letting agents are no longer accountable.

I feel that the experience was negative

I put my flat up for sale with my Foxtons, I was going to go with another agent but they were very pushy and said how they managed to sell better than anyone so I went with them. I was under the impression my flat would go straight up but after I signed the contract it took them 2 weeks to take photos and put them up, in the meantime they put up a video of the flat from a mid-term inspection where it looked absolutely disgusting. I had never seen this video and I don't see why it would be allowed to be put up without my permission, I asked for it to be removed, they didn't and it took them nearly the 2 weeks to remove it. The photos they took were adequate but not particularly great, I was pretty disappointed. I felt that the price was extremely over inflated (like all their prices) but respected they knew better than me, but when every single person gave feedback that it was way overpriced and no one showed any interest I became quite embarrassed. I found it very hard to contact my sales agent and just gave up most times after leaving numerous messages. I heard from my agent 10 times more before I signed with them than I did during my contract. When I gave notice 28 days before the end after having no interest, I was reminded how they are the number one and warned that going to another agent would not solve the issue. Their commission is so much more than everyone else but I feel my experience with their sales agent was extremely poor and I can't believe I had no interest in my nice flat. I feel I made a mistake going with them and would caution anyone thinking of them. Also I rented my flat with them for nearly 2 decades and my last tenant emailed them notice which they said they did not receive until the next day so they extended the end date to one day beyond the end of the month, they then charged me a management fee of £9 for the one day (and she paid £1 something rent for that one day). I will never rent with them again due to the complete lack of transparency with regards to money. (As for the excuse that the housing market is quiet I put my other property up for sale at the same time and it sold within 2 weeks, but then again the photos were really good and the price was reasonable).

Extremely poor experience with Foxtons. We were left without proper cooking facilities for 25 days, which had a major impact on our daily life and forced us to spend extra money on food. A functioning cooker is a basic part of any home, yet this was not handled with the urgency it deserved.

In 12 weeks of marketing they only managed to produce 5 viewings for our flat. That is after we persuaded Foxtons to reduce the initial asking price and then persuaded them again to reduce it four weeks into the sale period. They still operate the old Foxtons model of massively inflating the asking price. They are also the only agents not prepared to reduce their 2.5% fee. Very poor service.

Outrageous and awful management service

As a landlord (don't hate me!) paying for a managed service, they tried to charge me £90 + vat to fix a meter door with two cable ties. This is typical, and I have to chase them repeatedly for everything. My tenants and I deserve better.

Greg Nickson was the estate agent for our purchase and did things quickly, politely and sympathetically. Our purchase wasn't easy for various reasons but Greg recognized what everyone needed, and held the different parties and their interests together well. Four stars rather than five because dealing with Foxtons meant we got some other annoying and intrusive sales callers from their head office, who had to be told firmly to stay away. But Greg and the Clerkenwell office were good to deal with.

I walked in at Foxtons Clerkenwell office from street desperate, after over a month of failed attempt to find a place to rent. Staff were attentive, took my application with care and found few matching options for me in a short period of time when market was very limited. Jon Hanson was particularly helpful, convening me to view an option I thought would not work was reluctant to see, but he knew it was a match. It really worked out well and I ended up renting what I was looking for in exact area where I was looking for. He also coordinated the contracting process well. Thanks to Jon and team at Foxtons!
