Condescending, snarky estate agent who spoke to me like I was an idiot - was done with this guy before we even got up to the flat, where he opens the door to discover the flat already has new tenants he didn't even know about. Waste of time.

Islington is an incredibly competitive marketplace for agents, but through a combination of determination, hard work and excellent communication, they did a great job of completing our sale. We found them to be honest, transparent and hard-working and believe they have very good momentum in the Islington market

Efficient and helpful

Tamara Price at Chestertons South West lettings was incredibly helpful during the whole process. Despite the initial flat we were interested in going to another renter, she contacted me soon after with a similar flat in the same location. Everything was done very efficiently and Tamara was approachable and provided quick responses to any questions we had, giving us a piece of mind during the stressful ordeal of moving property! She was also understanding of my delay in getting references due to company policies, and gave guidance when needed. Thank you Tamara, we're very happy with our flat.

Three years of disappointment

After 10 years of using a cheeper agent I hoped being a landlord with chestertons would be a step up. After overestimating the rental value a tenant was finally found who then could not pay the rent after the first month. I then had three months of uncertainty, with no rent while they took all of their fees upfront, until a new tenant moved in at £300 less than I had been getting 5 years before. They charged me over £700 cleaning check in on a 4 bedroom house and allowed the first tenant to get out of paying for the check out clean despite him breaking the contract after a month. Since then they have sent in contractors that overcharged and did the same job again and again such as fitting the same security light three times and each time at a different price. There was three new property managers in two years and they all seemed to struggle to keep up with the workload. My tenant waited three weeks for them to send a contractor to fix a leak and then their contractor left without attempting to fix it! The bath was allowed to leak for over a month before I was even told there was an issue, all the while water soaked through the floor and down the wall. Despite them breaking their own terms and conditions they still expect me to pay for rent that they are no longer collecting. I was lied to repeatedly about work that was done and when the rent would come through. My tenant was unhappy and the my experience was stressful and unpleasant

I have used Chestertons for our properties for many years now and always find them incredibly professional. They do that by adhering rigidly to regulations which protect both the landlord and the tenant and this means it all runs very smoothly during the rental period. A special thanks to Sarah Norton who deals with almost impossible time schedules and makes it all come together on time as well as Emma and Rufus for marketing the properties so effectively.

To whom it may concernI just wanted to write in and say what a fantastic service and experience Fergus Edwards gave us during viewings over the last week. Fergus showed us three properties on different dates including a repeat viewing.We made an offer on one of the properties but the offer was not successful as there were five other offers. However we have now secured a property and I give all the credit to Fegus. The information Fergus gave us and careful attention paid to our situation and list of objectives meant that we found the exact location we wanted.We met 5 agents from different agencies over the course of a week and Fergus was head and shoulders above everyone we met. All the agents were professional and efficient - however Fergus had other qualities on top of this. Fergus is unflappable! In the endless and testing process of viewing, matching requirements to vacant properties, and managing disappointment in what seems to be a white hot market in the Fulham area at the moment Fergus had boundless enthusiasm and patience.My son is now moving to Fulham and we will be frequent visitors and in the medium term will considering moving there ourselves. Fergus will be out first port of call in any future property transaction in the area! Positive Experience Overall

Our experience with Chesterton's was good for the most part. Viewing the rental property was seamless and Melissa is extremely personable. We had an issue with the online system in that I should have been listed as the primary tenant due to a corporate relocation but my husband was listed as the primary, which created confusion in setting up our online accounts. Also, we were under agreement to let the property two months ahead of move-in, and there were last-minute repairs that required us to move in while they were still working on the property. We managed to work around the repairmen and Melissa was great about working with the landlord to have us move in at the same time as planned without a delay. In all, our experience was positive!

Abbie was incredibly helpful from initial enquiry through to securing our property. She provided a friendly approach and was happy to answer any questions we had, doing so at great speed. Lauren saves the day

I had a fantastic experience with Lauren Mansell at Chestertons Islington office recently.We were against the clock, having been let down by another Agency/Landlord for a property were due to move in to in the area. Haven given notice already were due to be homeless within 7 days.Lauren was very empathetic to our situation and made sure she showed us properties that were available within our time period and most importantly were suitable (unlike another Agency who wanted to book us into 10 properties, most of which were not available for 2 months).Very happy to say a crisis was averted and we're due to move into a great flat on Upper Street.Thank you Lauren!!!

Great experience working with Scott Abrahams and Kevin Green! Scott has a great understanding of the market and did a good job at guiding us on sale price and process, and Kevin was a great thought partner in navigating the buy and sale process and ensuring buyer and seller expectations and understanding of things were very aligned. Kevin in particular was outstanding! With that said, not all Chestertons agents are this good. Some of them were not good and one in particular almost derailed the sale of our property so be thoughtful of who you work with. Scott and Kevin I would 100% seek to work with again!

Terrible experience …

We had a terrible experience with Chestertons. From the beginning, our lettings agent Arsida was unprofessional and extremely difficult to get in touch with. Arsida would never pick up the phone when called and would not call us back when we requested. Arsida’s primary manner of communication was texting. Sometimes, we would get a text that just said “hey”, or “how are you” and nothing after. Other times we would get a text about her calling us later but she would never actually call us. This has been especially frustrating when asking for a list of furniture (twice), such that we could negotiate what to remove (our request was ignored both times). Also, when promising to put things in an email, that promise was never fulfilled. Serious deficiencies in communications aside, the worst part of our experience has been the dishonesty. Long story short, after Arsida simply refused to send us a list of furniture in the flat, we made a verbal agreement on the phone with her that only three pieces would remain, and others (including an extremely weathered sofa) would be removed. Come moving day, all furniture was there. Upon enquiring about the mistake, she sent an email saying how she “made it very clear from the beginning that the property is furnished”. We do not know if the reason she lied was incompetence or gamesmanship, as we naturally have no access to her communications with the landlord.We believe Arsida had no intentions of rectifying our issue when we informed her. Arsida promised to contact the landlord and we haven’t heard anything for nearly a month. Hence, we have had to take matters into our own hands and paid for removals. Our guess is that Arsida was quite simply waiting for this to become somebody else’s problem (most probably ours).Please consider significant additional costs, poor communication and duplicity when dealing with Chestertons.
