Unfortunately, there’s no option to award zero stars, so one will have to do. Myself and three fellow students renting a house in Islington have had the worst experience of our lives because of Chestertons. As mentioned in many other reviews, the communication is absolutely atrocious, for example, when they took over another agency that was handling our property, we got nothing from them about their takeover and so we were emailing an outdated email and wondering why we couldn’t get ahold of them. The communication we do get from Chestertons is rude and poorly lacking customer service and often threatening. Because we are students we are overlooked and not taken seriously and therefore we have suffered with many problems that frankly go against basic standards of living. Communication between landlord and tenant couldn’t be slower and couldn’t be more misunderstood when going through Chestertons. I would avoid this company at all costs, both tenants and landlord.

Having dealt with Chestertons over the past couple of months regarding my lease renewal I have arrived at the conclusion that this may very well be the estate agent branch that inspired "Stath Lets Flats". I tried for over three months to renew my lease and come to an agreement on the proposed rent increase but the communication was terrible. At one point I had to email reception to ask if the agent I was speaking with was still working there as I had sent three emails over the course of two weeks and had not heard back from her. When she eventually responded, I asked the agent to see if my landlord would be open to a rolling contract as I was unsure I wanted to commit to another full year lease and she kept emailing me the terms of a full year tenancy without any background information or feedback from my landlord. I was then served a vacate notice. I didn't want the headache of trying to engage with Chesterton's anymore so found a new flat (at a much cheaper rate) down the street. I arranged for friends to visit and help me pack and started to get an influx of calls from a different estate agent at Chesterton's looking to book a viewing, I agreed and asked my friends to arrive later to accommodate the early morning viewing. The estate agent said "one of the people who booked is definitely going to take the place so this will be the only viewing". He then called 15 mins before the scheduled arrival to say that they had both cancelled.... I appreciate this is out of his control but you can imagine my surprise when 20 minutes later one of them actually did show up for the viewing - estate agent was nowhere to be found - and I had to show the girl around the flat myself! The absolute cherry on the cake of this whole experience though has to be the fact that two weeks after I moved out I continued to get multiple calls from Chesterton's asking permission to book viewings at the flat that I had been evicted from. Landlords and tenants, avoid this place at all costs. Directionless management, complete lack of organisation and unqualified staff.
