Was really interested in a property…

Was really interested in a property viewing, emailed 2x, rang 3x, no answer whatsoever. Filled out the questionnaire, no answer. When you try ring, you get passed to an AI agent who can’t help, so I ask for a human, upon that request, I get hung up on.

M&Co - Beeston, Nottingham

Martin & Co are unprofessional and blatant liars.Their Beeston Office have destroyed my life. This Firm is useless and breaches all Codes of Conduct for The Property Ombudsman.Don't bother making an Official Complaint about any Branch of Martin & Co - their blatant lies ensure that they never account for any wrong-doing.Martin & Co also remove all honest reviews that they consider 'damaging and harmful' to their Business.Martin & Co need to be completely struck-off all Estate/Letting Agency lists and preferably Liquidated.

AVOID AVOID AVOID... Saltaire Branch

AVOID AVOID AVOID.... Rented 4 Bedroom property Lightcliffe Halifax via Saltaire Branch. If I could give zero stars I would! Having worked most of my life in Management Customer Services I expect to receive a high standard like the one I provide. Customer services from Martin & Co in Saltaire have been appalling, to say the least! And having read these reviews I cannot understand how they are still in business. My initial contact (prior to signing the agreement) was very good. Found the property I wanted to rent, having never rented before. There were issues with the property - security gates didn't work correctly and therefore provided no security, garage door not working correctly, rubbish bags laying around in the grounds etc. I did make it very clear before signing the contract that I wanted all these issues addressed and I was told they would be. Once the contract was signed everything changed. I was told I didn't ask for it to be made into a stipulation on signing (how would I know to do this when I have never rented before). Within two weeks of moving in, I had a leak under the kitchen sink, followed by the washing machine didn't work. With regards to the washing machine I was accused of damaging it however when the repair man attended he found coins, hair bands, and stones in the filter from the previous owner. keys went missing from the property when I was out like someone had been in there without me present (all denied). And no keys were supplied for the juliet balcony. Then the dishwasher stopped working and the landlord wanted me to contribute 50% towards a replacement machine that was 7 years old. I refused. The person that I was then dealing with Ian Tate supported the landlord and accused me of not looking after the property (even though I have owned my own house for 30 years prior to this). The landlord requested a property inspection 3 weeks post moving in as they were concerned about 'their property' even though this was denied. I was outraged. Small problems and issues kept arising which the landlord refused to address even though they were listed in the Inventory (which I received 3 months after signing the contract). Every time there was an issue Ian supported the landlord and spoke to me like I was irrelevant. Found him to be extremely patronising and arrogant. I eventually asked to deal with the branch manager Denise who I found more supportive and actually tried to resolve issues with the landlord, albeit not successfully every time. The landlord just would not address issues with the property - unfortunately I had paid 6 months rent upfront to secure the property so it felt like because she had the money she was refusing to maintain the property. I handed my notice in to end the contract at 6 months as I was not prepared to stay in a property where I was accused that I wasn't looking after it, and not having any support from my letting manager Ian. I moved out and the keys were handed back and it took over 5 weeks to receive the deposit of £1846 back!! I did all the chasing for this. The landlord was literally retaining hold of my money and the letting agent could do nothing about it! then after 4 weeks I was informed by Denise that Ian had also cocked up and not issued me with the procedures for claiming back my deposit... again extremely poor customer services from Ian! I am absolutely appalled at the service I received and will never use this company as long as I live! Does not surprise me to notice they are not regulated or authorised by the relevant authorities so you have absolutely no come back from anywhere!

Uninterested in the Tenant - Landlords allowed to neglect property

We rented a property from Martin and Co in Prestwich. They never ever confronted the owner of the state of the property. Our property in Pine Avenue Whitefield was in a state of disrepair and even though problems were reported, they were never fixed. They let the owner wait 5 months until we left to action any repairs. The owner was allowed to neglect the property and allow the outside of the house to fall apart literally.Martin and Co were "afraid" to confront the owner instead raising issues when we left the property.Gates and fences were covered in nails and shoddy repair. The owner allowed herself to continually come check on the property, without notifying us, and would "knock on" to check the state of the house herself.

The worst estate agent ever, avoid at all costs even if you really like the property!!

Where to start...Martin & Co London Bridge were impossible to deal with during our 1.5 year tenancy, I really don't know how they are a company as they are so hopeless and completely dysfunctional. I understand this branch is now longer part of Martin & Co and is now trading as DA Property, perhaps partly due to the issues we experienced. We had numerous issues when we moved in: a toilet that wouldn't flush properly, a shower that couldn't change temperature, a leaking kitchen sink etc. It took a lot of chasing and two months for all issues to be fixed. The boiler then broke down and we spent 3 weeks in February with no heating or hot water and again it took a lot of chasing on our part for anything to be done. We also had a broken oven for a month at one point. Whenever we had problems, we would call the office and be directed to a central call centre who assured us that our issue had been marked as urgent and someone from the internal maintenance team would call us back, but that never happened once. We also had the mobile number of the Director of the London Bridge office, but he would ignore phone calls, WhatsApps and emails. I also tried to visit their office in person on several occasions, but never found anyone present. And after everything, they took a cleaning and maintenance charge from our deposit. It was truly excruciating trying to get anything done and we're glad we will never have to deal with Martin & Co / DA Property again. Avoid at all costs, even if you really like the property!

Martin and Co Westbury

Estate agents are supposed to help you find the dream. In our case it was a small plot of land not far from Salisbury. A call to the office was met with an un-informed assistant who assured us they would call back to answer our questions. They never did. We called again and advised that the relevant person was out for a couple of days, and they knew noting about the plot of land in question. A call back would be their priority as soon as the person who was dealing with it was able to. A call was booked, for few days later - nothing. Taking the initiative, we decided to call the office. The manager who knew about the land was unavailable. Busy.Whatever happened to the call back? The response from the office was un-enthusiastic. They clearly have better things to do than offer a service. Staff were oblivious of the land they were commissioned to offer up in this case, that was the responsibility of the absent staff member, ‘nothing to do with me’. It begs the question how they sell anything at all or can offer any confidence in the company. I wouldn’t sell a house or anything else with them. In my personal view it's badly run by people don’t know what they are doing and certainly have no interest in the client. The comment from Martin and Co proves my point. we viewed a plot of land near Salisbury. We did not say the office was in Salisbury. Martin and Co were selling the land from their office in Westbury.

Use the local office to let out my property. The rent has been late on several occasions, I have to chase the Tennant myself, there is zero communication or work being done on their part. The local office is never open and looks abandoned, no one ever answers any of the phone numbers I have. The property has now been up for sale for a few months and I have not once heard from them. If ypu phone the line to 'book a viewing at a property' it rings and rings until it cuts off. There is literally no one to speak to. Worst company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Martin & Co - Guarantor issue

My partner and I were through the whole process of renting a flat. Papers were signed at beginning, all information was given when asked. We were told that we'd got the place, and just needed a guarantor - moved back from Australia so they needed extra reassurance, which was fine. The guarantor gave all information needed. Even employer contact information so they could validate. We were set to move in on the 18th May, the day before we had been told we lost the flat as they didn't get a copy of the guarantor's contract of employment. It is no business of theirs to need that, everything else had been shown and was evident that he could pay if needed. We lost the holding fee of 300 pounds, and were given no other option. After trying for hours to get hold of them, none of the calls were getting through, we had to leave it and try to find somewhere to stay.We had to move out our current rental, and had nowhere to go.DO NOT USE THIS AGENT

Unreliable agent

Unreliable & Unprofessional agent everSince before our booking appointment to view this house, we clearly mentioned that we, 4 people, will share the house. We did a tenancy application form, mentioning 4 people will share and then wired holding fees. The Agent was doing reference & bank checking for all of us and got a reply that they have all passed. So, we already confirmed with our current landlord for moving date and also arranged to remove the household, book for moving agencies & deep cleaning service to this current house.1 week before our moving date, Martin & Co sent us a mail that '' I am ever so sorry but we cannot continue with the application because landlord wasn’t aware a license was required for sharers which he doesn’t hold”. I am really surprised that they did all reference check, bank check to all of us without realising the landlord has that license. Can you all imagine how much difficult for us to find a new house within a week? I just want to share my experience to everyone how unreliable this agent is.

Utterly Baffled

I have never had such an awful experience with not only a letting agent, but a professional company overall. The viewing I had with Banbury Martin and Co was a absolute shambles. When I wrote to complain about how rude and unprofessional the letting agent was, I was met with a rude and dismissive email response by the agent, whom turned out to be the owner of the branch, David Stone. David stated that he was unwell and that if I wasn’t comfortable with the viewing I should have left. David stated ‘ I am the owner of the business, and this matter is now closed’ My complaints were not addressed and they were swept under the carpet like nothing had happened. I then asked for the complaint to be handled by someone senior, only to be passed to another estate agent, whom was below David, to have the same dismissed and rude response - ‘This matter is closed, we shall not be commenting any further’ . I have repeatedly referred to their own complaints policy and asked for the complaint to be passed to senior management of Martin and Co only to be told that David is the senior management and he is not dealing with my complaint anymore. The complete lack of professionalism and customer service is just outstanding and completely baffling! I have never been treated with such disregard in my adult life. To use illness as a way to justify complete rudeness and horrendous customer service is just ridiculous! And then David tried to say that I clearly don’t understand how Covid affects peopke otherwise I would be more understanding of his lack of professionalism?!Judgemental, presumptions, rude, unprofessional, damn right pig headed! If you are looking for a new place to live, don’t even bother looking at Martin and Co in Banbury! Awful awful Awful! There are no words for my experience! And ironically STILL they refuse to acknowledge my complaints and concerns and pass it to senior management - as per their own complaint policy!!!

SLUM LANDLORDS

SLUM LANDLORDS - My partner & I rented a property through this company. My partner lived in the property for 7 years and I lived there 2 years. In April 2021 we reported damp in the bedroom coming from the old boiler. They did nothing. In October we found mushrooms growing behind our bed along with a large patch of mould. I contacted them and threatened to take the to tribunal if they didn't fix the issue. It was fixed in 3 days at that point. Then came our six months notice to leave. We were told not to rush but the company harassed us into leaving. We eventually moved out after three months and have now been advised we have to pay for multiple services. They have claimed that the oven needs cleaning, yet in their original documentation regarding the state of the property it is noted that the oven is in a poor state. They have claimed we broke a window yet as the property has not been maintained within the seven years rental the old wooden frames have rotted away. This has been reported to them on several occasions via the telephone and via email yet now they are trying to charge us for it. There was one instance where, for whatever reason, my partner paid the rent a handful of days later than usual yet this didn't stop one of their employees sending a vile and billious email threatening eviction for being late with the money. Not one seconds thought or consideration to there being a global pandemic and the possibility my partner, as a key worker, may have been ill with the virus. When challenged it was apparently an automated message, which if true, I would suggest someone with better grammar and ability at writing puts together all automated communications. In short, if you are looking to rent, avoid this business.

Fantastic!!!

This review is well overdue. I am so thankful to Cindie Shirley who dealt with my house purchase ( Rainham Kent ). She is efficient, courteous, well informed and approachable. Great customer service. There was no need for me to speak to members of her team due to her professionalism. She liaised effortlessly with solicitors, vendors etc. The entire process was flawless and stress free for me. Cindie is hardworking and I will recommend her over and over again. She is a great asset to the company. Cindie you are just fantastic!!!

Zak at the Huddersfield branch is such an asset to the company. He spent a lot of time assisting me with properties to let on a Saturday afternoon, close to closing time (sorry, Zak!). Sadly, I decided not to move to Huddersfield, but would definitely recommend using Martin & Co based on his professional and helpful advice.

Renting and selling of my uncle's house

We had to rent out my uncle's house due to the fact he was diagnosed with dementia and required looking after in a home. 3 estate agents were invited, one didn't turn up, one had no idea and seemed not bothered !! then there was Richard. As soon as he started talking I knew he was going to get my business. He explained exactly what was required and it was very obvious he knew what he was talking about. A plan was agreed and put into action. I've been in the retail trade, and like Richard and this team, I also treated my customers/clients as if they were the only ones I had. There is quite a distance between St Albans and where myself and my two brothers live, which was a concern, Richard and this team took that concern away. Sadly my uncle past away Dec 2020 so the house was made ready to be sold. Several views and it was sold for a lot more than we expected. This is a family run business who care, and are professional with an in depth knowledge of all things related to renting and selling. They have become our friends. So if you are looking for a first rate estate agent, LOOK NO FURTHER you have just found one.

Gangster

Hi,After viewing a property twice with an Agent and with the owner and after putting forward an offer .The process of providing all documents and the initiation of the Mortgage were ongoing , I found out that the Agent not the Owner had made the decision without contacting us (during the 7 days that passed) to sell it to another buyer at the same price?I have never come across this kind of a sales man concept. Never again Martin&Co .

I booked a valuation appointment with them for selling my home. Someone came to visit, but instead of clearly explaining the process, they kept talking about how quickly the house would sell. Even though I had the original written valuation in hand, they mentioned a completely different price, which was very confusing. I'm honestly glad I didn’t go ahead with them. I wouldn’t recommend their service.

Martin & Co Aberdeen: Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Despite taking their 12% monthly cut on their supposedly 'fully managed service', they take a hands-off approach to property management. Their service involves a complete lack of action in following up on remedial work throughout and between tenancies, and failure to engage with tenants and take instructions from landlord. This ultimately incurs additional costs, time and grievance to landlords. The staff shows poor competency and professionalism in acting on the client's behalf, there is no continuity in client engagement, and the management shows no accountability. There is no scope to speak to decision-makers to resolve conflict and Martin & Co is either unresponsive or always right. Their inaction has led to multiple thousands of pounds of damage to my property, while Martin & Co continue to sit on the fence. Further, they lost keys to my property that were supposedly kept safe in their office and did not have a log system to track where the keys were. They denied responsibility for their negligence with no action, leaving my property at risk and for me to fix it.They prefer to shift the blame for their poor management to tenants instead, which is unacceptable. Their service is disgraceful and dishonest. There are plenty of other good agents locally, please do not make the same mistake I did.
