I see brian has had a bad review wrote about him already. you had no intention of doing my home report today you came up with excuse after excuse not to do it and i told just get up and get done. i want the house on the market asap and the home report is the final thing to get done. So he did come and then made an excuse at the door and left so I tried calling him and he ignored my call we both know why.So I called the estate agent and we were trying to rebook it and now I have to wait till next Wednesday for an other home report because of this lazy clown they have been told under no circumstance to use this mob and if they turn up they will be getting told where to go and not in a nice way and I will be removing the house from the estate agent. Avoid at all cost

TrustpilotTerrible Service - Huge delays for no reason!
Terrible Service from ConnellsSadly I had a bad experience from Connells too! Not only did I have to wait 3 weeks for a valuation... it was a waste of time as he valued our house for £0 as he didn't understand the build method! I was desperate for it to go through as quickly as possible and rang everyday for a cancellation as they do not have a cancellation list. I was reassured that it takes 24 hours to get the report to the mortgage company.... which it does, but with a value of £0.... because "HE" doesn't understand it.... His report goes from Connells, via the mortgage company, then our broker, then to us.... then we provide info.... for it to go back again! This has caused another week delay and apparently, Connells now have another 48 hours to review this when the "valuer" could have just asked us all this at the time of valuation!! We could have cleared it up then and there!! Pointless!!

TrustpilotConnells surveyors are incompetent and…
Connells surveyors are incompetent and can't even admit when they get it wrong. They were instructed by Virgin to revalue my London flat in October 2020. They valued it at the same amount as they valued it at 2 years earlier, despite the fact that the 1980s kitchen had been replaced by a brand new one, the out of date boiler and pump system has been replaced with a top of the range boiler, the flat renovated thoroughly and the short lease extended. They refused to admit they'd got it wrong. Another lender's surveyor valued the flat yesterday at £55,000 more. So Virgin loses a customer. Moral of the story - Connells are a bunch of incompetents.

Have had a very tiring and unpleasant experience trying to rent an apartment with this agency. They and homelet are extremely frustrating when it comes to details needed in the deposit scheme and no matter what happens or what documentation is provided… there is always something else more they require.Almost as if they wouldn’t want you to rent their property and have a specific applicant in mind

TrustpilotNot proactive
Mums property went on sale with them. All they really did was advertise through Rightmove. Not at all proactive with selling, don’t even bother to show the few people interested around. Very poor agent, don’t bother

TrustpilotIf I could have given 0 stars I would
I was meant to rent a property from them. I paid my holding fee and the reference came through positive. I also got confirmation that I will be moving in after being forced by them to move in at an earlier date. I then made it aware to my previous landlord that I will be moving out. a WEEK before my moving in date they called and say that the landlord decided not to rent me the place after doing his own referencing (which I think is total bull). Now I'm left to hustle to find a new place which I did. Now its time to be reference by the new agency, turns out that connells still have a pending reference in my name and my new reference cannot happen unless they cancel theirs. Ive called a million and 1 times and requested them to cancel it seeing that its only 3 more days left before having to move. They assured me that they will get it done right away and up to now! These people will leave you homeless and not care 1 bit!!!

TrustpilotFalse accusations of arrears for 4+…
False accusations of arrears for 4+ months. Representatives have confirmed that there are no arrears, but that the data held in the system is incorrect. No one is able to correct this, and I receive arrears letters ~weekly. The offices appear to be in absolute chaos, none of the representatives take ownership of issues and pass you off to others. Emails are ignored without fail, and when calling in I have to explain the whole situation each time. The complaints procedure has been ignored, I've received no follow up or even acknowledgement.

TrustpilotTracy the happy professional
I have looked at 10 or 11 properties in Exeter and was shown 6 of them by Tracy from Connells. Always smartly dressed, she is friendly and professional, and exceedingly knowledgeable about the properties and house manufacture. Yesterday she answered a question about road noise by telling me about the Argon-filled double glazing. The 5 stars is for Tracy. I will write another review once I have bought a house.

TrustpilotNEVER use connells
I highly request people buying properties or renewing their mortgages to NEVER use Connells. They take so much time. The staffs are neither polite nor helpful. As the house was advertised by Connells, I thought using Connells mortgage would be easier but I was wrong. I was first time buyer, they delayed my paper work so much. For the house i bought, i had to chase them so much for paper works. I had to send emails, make calls constantly and chase them for more than 6 months. It should not have taken this long only if they cared about customer satisfaction. I am facing the same problem when renewing my mortgage. Therefore, this is the last time I am using Connells service. Connells need to train their staffs to be polite, helpful and especially quick with work. We, customers, if we have to chase you guys so much there is no point in paying so much fees and in return get poor customer service. Its better to use other mortgage providers who value customers and gets work done quickly and more conveniently.

Trustpilotlovely and helpful
I was a first time buyer looking for my perfect house around Exeter. When I first called Connells, a very lovely and helpful woman called Molly answered the phone helping me to find my perfect home. She took all my details down and asked what kind of property I was searching for.Within 2 days she had found my perfect house and showed me around. It was at this first viewing I decided this was the house! Molly showed me all the aspects of the house and really made me imagine what it would be like living in this house and also with all the activities and pros of living in Exeter.

TrustpilotDo not allow these in your property.
Please do not use. These are terrible, rude, heavy handed and disrespectful surveyors. Two surveyors turned up to my elderly parents property during lockdown, my parents agreed to a 15 minute appointment in which 1 surveyor would be present. My parents agreed in the understanding that they could stand in the garden whilst the survey was carried out. Two surveyors turned up to the property and were present together during Covid restrictions for over 2 hours! I believe Connells withheld information regarding the appointment to gain access to my parents property. They would, in the restrictions, never have agreed to 2 people being in their house for a prolonged period of time. They were disrespectful and very heavy handled. Pulling and dragging at windows and walls, to the point my mum was in tears. I am surprised they did not cause damage. My father is partially sighted and they are quiet people. They were treat terribly. I placed an official complain to which the response was complete denial! Insulting my parents as being liars!! Stay well clear if this company. Do not give these people your money. But most importantly, I plead, DO NOT agreed to these people entering your property.

TrustpilotA despicable company. AVOID AVOID AVIOD!
My personal experience is: that once connells have your contact details, they simply will not leave you alone, should they see potential profit in contacting you. Your wishes will be ignored.I seldome leave negative reviews, but this, in my humble opinion, is well deserved.A recent quote fro Elon Musk, may be appropriate...

GoogleI used Connells to sell my late sisters property and this was such a sad situation to be in. Connells were amazing. They provided a first class, quick and efficient service and never ever did I feel the sensitivity of the situation was lost. James (the Manager) was a wealth of knowledge and Jack who dealt with me in the initial stages was able to help me through a very difficult initial period with such maturity and empathy. Really would recommend using Connells.

TrustpilotTerrible agent
Terrible agent! My agent has been unprofessional starting from the flat viewing stage. Made mistakes on the contract (contracting starting date, move in date etc), being difficult about me opting out the 'default' energy supplier, not being helpful to solve the problems unless I challenged them from legal perspectives. Even though I opted out that energy supplier, I still got a bill from them! And they are reluctant to help whatsoever. It is a pain to deal with such terrible letting agent!

TrustpilotSELLERS BEWARE
SELLERS BEWARE! WHY I CANCELLED WITHIN 14 DAYS:- They only care about you instructing them. - They will OVERVALUE your property to make you happy and tell you you'll sell quick, do not believe it.- If you say you're unhappy you will be told by James the branch manager that he disagrees rather than apologising. - If you're told you'll get a call with feedback, don't expect to get the call. - They allowed a family of 5 (3 children) into my home, inc the agent, myself and my parterner that makes 8, the current government rules is 6 people. The children were running around my garden and touching a lot around my house. Gives me no faith in the control they maintain (or lack thereof) during viewings and I would NEVER let them show someone around without me there.- If you complain about something (such as the above) they will not reply to your email, apologise or even acknowledge your complaint. - For the 1.2% they want in fees you'd expect some sort of common courtesy and a reasonable level customer service, you wont get it.- If you say you're considering cancelling within the 14 day cooling off period, they won't ask what they can do to keep your business, they will just let you go, showing they don't really care about their customers or business and they only want you to instruct them for their numbers. We cancelled within our 14 day cooling off period after the property being live for less than a week and have decided to take the purplebricks route so we can handle everything ourselves because they gave us no faith in the service they provide.Lesson learnt. I will be avoiding Connells as a seller and as a buyer.

TrustpilotCouldn't even attend a property viewing
I booked a property viewing, confirmed on the site, made an account as they requested to confirm it again, and yet they felt the need to call me four hours before the viewing when I was busy to confirm it yet again. And since I didn't pick up the phone, they assumed I was not attending and bailed on me. I spent a lot of time, effort, and money to arrive there, but somehow they felt like I was a customer wasn't worth their time.

TrustpilotLow quality surveyors
Over the past 3 years, have had 2 valuations carried out by Connells:The first (a buy to let remortgage) said that the tenancy agreement didn't look correct and we would be lucky to achieve a rental of £2,500 per month - we've just completed 2 years with a rental of £2,850 per month. The second valued a property at almost £70k below an exact same property in the block that had sold for a month previously They clearly employ poor quality surveyors with no experience and low intelligence. Unless you're forced to use this company by a bank (request an alternative) avoid.I can only assume they're the cheapest on the market.

TrustpilotUnprofessional and not trust worthy
I arranged to rent a flat which the tenancy would start on 3rd of October. I was told that the tenant will leave the property on 30th of September. I called them on the 2nd of October in order to arrange a time to hand me the keys for the moving. They then informed me that the current tenant still hasn't given back the keys and refuses to leave. I asked what should I do since I had arranged to leave the property I currently live in order to move to the new property. Simply their response was that was my problem and they can't do anything. I asked why wasn't I informed for that earlier the tenant should have left the property at least 3 days ago and they said that they didn't know... I asked for my deposit back, as I wanted to find a different flat since there is no guarantee that the tenant will leave and they refused... Verdict: they postponed my moving in day, they cost me £40 per day (£600 so far) as I have to rent a hotel room to stay and refused my deposit back... Never again with Connells...

TrustpilotAppalling from Start to Finish
Genuinely the worst Estate Agent we had to deal with during our property search and one half of the reason we missed our completion date - on the actual day of completion.Firstly their properties are massively over valued hence why they generally stay on the market for longer than they should. They give sellers an unrealistic expectation of what they can achieve. Speaking to a neighbour and friend who both had Connells round to value their house backs this up as the valuation given was significantly above what other agents valued them at.Secondly and most importantly they actually block potential buyers from viewing your house by demanding that they speak to their in house mortgage consultant before they can arrange a viewing. We were told we needed a DIP before viewing a house - was the only agent who asked for this (and we've viewed almost 20 houses with various agents) and then when I arranged this with my provider they said that I would still need to speak to their in house consultant before offering on the house to "sense check" the numbers - essentially saying I could have lied about the numbers to my provider! They claimed the vendor insisted on this however my understanding from other buyers are that they are saying this to everybody. I learnt later that staff commissions are actually paid on selling mortgages rather than houses hence the aggressive tactics. Most unfortunately our buyer chose to use Connells as their mortgage consultant. The mortgage offer took an age to come through - I completely understand we're in Covid times and everything takes longer however we ourselves had our main offer through and also a revised offer before our buyer had theirs, and ours took longer than normal. Also bear in mind that we applied for ours two weeks after the buyer had their offer accepted on our house... As it turned out Connells had put the wrong solicitors details on the buyers offer. So even when it eventually came through the solicitors side went to the wrong place. Cannot even get the basics right.Lastly our buyers solicitor (JS Law) were terrible throughout the process, together with Connells (due to the mortgage offer) they managed to miss our completion date on the actual day, meaning at least 4 people in the chain had to pay twice for removals services. We strongly suspect that Connells recommended the solicitors to the buyer although we have no proof of this.Appalling from start to finish. My recommendation to potential sellers would be to avoid Connells like the plague and pray your buyer has nothing to do with them either!

TrustpilotIncompetent time wasters
Initially they were great. They talked the talk. Had no problem ‘selling’ our house. The follow up was awful though. We had an offer accepted on a property that we had fallen in love with at the beginning of February 2020, having ‘sold’ ours with Connells. Great. Not a lot happened over those few weeks as the buyers were apparently getting their mortgage in place. Then lockdown happened and so we expected that things may go a bit slower but we were all sorted paperwork wise on the other side on the house we were buying. So we hoped that once lockdown was lifted we would all be ready to move.No communication from Connells whatsoever. And then in June we found out actually our buyer didn’t have a mortgage in place and had pulled out.We were gutted but we went straight back on the market and made it clear to Connells that we must have a buyer that has a mortgage ready and be able to move fast. Again it ‘sold’ in under a week but they clearly didn’t do all their checks/ and or lied to us because again a couple of weeks later still no mortgage. So we pulled out and told them again, find us a suitable buyer. In the meantime the people from the house we were buying are becoming increasingly frustrated as you can imagine.Backwards and forwards, the people were having trouble getting a mortgage (which they should’ve had in place already for agreement to the sale! Again we were misled!!!) finally had a survey done at end of august then to be told 2 weeks later they are taking 6 weeks to action.Monday 28th September buyer can’t afford the mortgage and is pulling out.We have lost the house we were buying. Not to mention time, money and lots of stress. So angry and do not recommend these incompetent time wasters at all!!!

TrustpilotBought a house from Ashley Adams Derby…
Bought a house from Ashley Adams Derby part of Connells ... the only reason this is a one star is because the lady who did my mortgage was great. The rest of the staff were awful and quite rude. They pressure you to sign up to their processes and chosen conveyancer ... No correspondence throughout once the sale had been agreed, I was left in the dark for the entire sale with no contact for at least 3 months. Even on the final day of contracts been exchanged I wasn’t contacted and when collecting the keys, they were merely in an envelope by the door. No customer service and no compassion!

TrustpilotTerrible experience
We paid for a mortgage broker service with WH Brown 5 years ago and then were contacted by Connells when our term was up (assuming they’ve taken over). Had one telephone appt with one guy, sent all documents through then arranged another for 2 weeks later as the guy was on leave. I put the appt straight in my phone so sure I got the time right. Anyway, the day came and he never rang (I had 11am in my phone), he didn’t ring until 1pm and by then I was busy with work. Finally spoke to them and gave them the benefit of the doubt and rearranged to 4pm the following week with a different person as the original guy was on leave again. Received 2 text messages and an email from the guy (Anthony) confirming appt at 4pm. 4pm came and no call until 4:35pm which I did not answer. Then sent an email to Anthony explaining his cock up to which he replied ‘I’ll check what’s happened because it was definitely in my diary for 4;30pm’ even though he sent me an email from his own account detailing the appt was at 4pm!!! Now our buyers are using them for their mortgage and trying to arrange a valuation of our property with them and once again they are rubbish. They can’t speak to me apparently because they never took our details down at the start of the process. Avoid!!!!!

TrustpilotIncompetent
Incompetent. Made an offer on a property, which they wrote up and sent me an email confirming my offer etc. After that, I didn’t hear from them again. I made numerous phone calls over the space of a few weeks to chase it up (was it accepted or not?, do I keep looking? And so on...). Nothing. This was about 8 months ago. Started looking elsewhere, then obviously lockdown happened. Since lockdown I have started looking again. Tonight I went to a viewing I had booked in via email (I have the email thread to prove it) and the viewing agent never showed. So I called the office and they had forgotten to book it in (this is a different branch to the first incident as well). Absolute joke of an estate agents. Will NEVER sell a property with them, and am reluctant to buy through them too.
