We recently had the misfortune to market our property through Beresfords Shenfield office which led to one of the most stressful six months of our lives. Although the initial offer was received in a quick timeframe progress then slowed. We required a quick sale as we had a very specific property to purchase, however once we had accepted the initial offer we then felt that Beresfords were acting more for our buyer than for ourselves… We were advised the lower chain was shorter than it was in reality. The mortgage advisor that acted through Beresfords for our buyer was lax at best resulting in many delays and indeed as an exchange date was set, allowed our buyer to renegotiate their mortgage which added to the delay and almost caused the chain to collapse and us to lose the property we were purchasing. We were very lucky that the agent we were buying from was incredibly proactive and was able to communicate with the other agents lower in the chain. It was telling that we heard from the agent we were buying from nearly every day whereas we had to chase Beresfords for even the most mundane matter. Both Daniel, our agent, and Jacob, the branch manager, couldn't see the issues their incompetence had caused which is possibly the worse thing. The only time they seem to want to talk to us was when we threatened not to pay them due to the shocking service. If you value your sanity please find another agent!

Following a detailed review of the relevant file, our internal notes appear to outline a different view to your own in terms of how events unfolded throughout this transaction . These notes are recorded in real time as matters progress and cannot be amended thereafter. Time is of the essence when progressing any sale and the local office have followed up regularly throughout this transaction. Whilst it may have taken some time from sale agreed to exchange, it will depend upon how many parties are involved in the chain (we made your Mother aware of this from the outset) and any legal issues which may arise during the process. We can only be guided by information passed on to us by third parties and sometimes this can change, dependent upon circumstances. Please bear in mind also, mortgage rates have reduced recently, thus resulting in the new mortgage application for your buyer. Whilst this may have held up proceedings by a short period of time, it did not result in the long delay in which you refer to.In my opinion, based on the evidence on file, I feel we have acted in your best interests throughout this sale. However, we recognise you feel let down and have made recompense as a gesture of goodwill.
