Very disappointing experience Unfortunately, our experience with Richard James Highworth has been extremely disappointing. From the outset, we were clear that we were chain-free buyers with young children and specific completion timescales. We were repeatedly assured that the sellers were prepared to break the chain if necessary, and this was also confirmed in writing. During the process, communication became increasingly slow and difficult, particularly when completion dates were discussed. Calls were not returned, important information was not communicated promptly, and we ultimately felt pressured to accommodate changes to the sellers’ plans that were inconsistent with what had originally been presented to us. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of empathy towards our family circumstances. We were effectively told to adjust our plans around the sellers, and during one conversation we were told, in no uncertain terms, that the agent’s priority was the sellers because “that’s where they get their commission from.” Our formal complaint was also not meaningfully addressed for around a month despite being raised with senior management. Buying a home is stressful enough without feeling misled, ignored or treated as though your circumstances do not matter. We expected honesty, professionalism and basic respect throughout.

Charlie leads a brilliant team here. Laura Woolley dealt with my purchase, for both myself and the seller, and Chloe was incredibly helpful, even getting me in for a last-minute visit to show the family the place once the sale had been agreed. They made my first home-buying experience a genuine pleasure. Laura helped me navigate some of the complexities of being a first-time buyer and offered support every step of the way. When my solicitor wasn't always the best communicator, Laura stepped in to bridge that gap, which I was incredibly grateful for. This is a truly professional service that goes above and beyond, Chloe even brought out a 12v car compressor from her husband when I needed to sort out my moving van! I would highly recommend them.

We purchased our new home via Richard James and from the very beginning we recieved a fantastic service. Charlie and Joe were very helpful in finding us a property that suited our needs and budget and communicated very well between us and the sellers. We used a well known chain estate agents (out of area) for our home sale and had it not been for Richard James in particular Laura for her constant progress updates and check ins we would not have had such a good process. Laura was fundamental in helping relieve the stress of the move, she is just fantastic at what she does! It’s down to Richard James that our sale managed to go ahead after 8 long months of delays. I cannot recommend Richard James enough, they go above and beyond to help in anyway they can and you feel they truly care. Don’t trust Richard James

We made an offer on a property being sold by Richard James in early 2025. Our offer was rejected but nothing wrong with that. A few months later Richard James staff phoned us and asked if we were still interested in buying the property. They gave us some ridiculous story about the buyers splitting up and going their separate ways on the day contracts were to be exchanged. We told them we were still interested, our offer was accepted and we were told that the sellers wanted a quick sale because they had bought a property and wanted to move. There is always a delay while a solicitor is instructed, ID and money laundering checks are done, but we progressed as quickly as we could. Our surveyor gave up two days of his holiday to do the survey and produce the report. Richard James staff hassled us for weeks, emailing or phoning most days. On one day they phoned us five times between two junctions on the M5 while we were driving. Then it all went quiet. We heard nothing and we had to pursue them. The story changed again and now the sellers were stuck in legal negotiations about the property they were buying. They had been ready to move supposedly. We signed our copy of the contract and returned it to the solicitors and we transferred them the money. Out of nowhere Richard James staff contacted us and told us we needed to complete in 3 days! Richard James staff wanted to be the agents and the solicitors at the same time. By this time it was late November and we had multiple commitments we could not change including some time out of the UK in Eastern Europe. We agreed to exchange when we were back in the UK with a view to completion in late January. In early December Richard James staff contacted us and informed us that they had sold the house to someone else. Our researches revealed that they had relisted it on the market in November without telling us. We were left thousands of pounds out of pocket due to legal fees, surveyors fees, lost bank interest and fees to other professionals who had viewed the property with us. Our further researches revealed that Richard James has a habit of ‘sham listing’ properties for one day only when they have already sold them to their contacts without the properties being sold legitimately on the open market. Companies like Richard James are the reason estate agents are widely held in contempt and not trusted. They are unprofessional and untrustworthy. When we told the story to other agents without naming Richard James all of them said something along the lines of ‘that must have been Richard James’. We would never use Richard James again for buying or selling. We advise friends and family the same. Regulation of estate agents in the UK is well overdue. It is time that these unethical practices were outlawed. One star is a star too many for Richard James

What a horrendous company!! I've so far sent 4 requests (2 via right move and 2 directly through their website) to contact me for a viewing on a property in Shrivenham. As a cash buyer I am in a good position to purchase property, however they have not bothered to contact me! I'm sure the vendor would love to know about their utter incompetence to sell a property! I will avoid at all costs any property for sale with this joke of an estate agent, and will most definitely NEVER sell a property with them!

What can I say Chloe and Charlotte have been proactive, communicative and professional from day one. We could only view at 5.30 pm but no issues to them they booked in viewings to suit us even showing us other properties nearby. The waiting game once we offered felt like forever but they were on the case following up each day until we reached an amount that suited both parties. They go above and beyond nothing is too much trouble behaving as if it is their own business I always felt they had our interests at heart.
