Marvellous and highly recommended service. From the time Ken Whittaker valued our property it was very clear that there was a clear direction and confidence that our property would sell quickly, and it did on the first weekend of viewing thanks to their marketing. Following the acceptance of the offer we had regular informative calls from Ric Merlo, to guide and support the sale process. Without the liaison of the team, especially Ric Merlo, we would have struggled to keep a long chain in place. Credit to Ric that he kept the entire chain supported and informed and above all else intact to the end and for this we are deeply grateful. My association with Ric Merlo started when my husband and I moved to Harpenden in 1968 when we visited John Curtis Estate Agent and Ric was a member of his team. We have moved several times within Harpenden and have always called on Ric and Ken Whittaker. Without a doubt they know Harpenden and the surrounding villages without exception. Time has moved on and I have recommended both Ric and Ken to many of my friends they have always been delighted with valuations, advice and prompt service from the Company (now Whittakers). Appointments to view and regular updates take the stress out of both selling and buying. The staff at Whittaker's are both friendly and efficient and the communication with the team provide confidence and re-assurance. More recently, Ric Merlo has found me a new build in Wheathampstead (before the property was officially marketed). My home was sold this year and my new house will be completed next year (2022). Whittaker & co recently sold my property in Harpenden and made what could have been a stressful experience into a smooth seamless one. From start to finish the team were delightful to deal with keeping me updated all the way through the process. Ken was spot on with his valuation and two days after the launch the team had arranged an open day with nineteen viewings, many of which had been generated prior to the property being launched on Rightmove resulting in a sale agreed at the full asking price. Six weeks later the sale was exchanged and completed. The team were professional and helpful throughout and the service I received by far exceeded any other estate agent that I have used over many years. A special thanks in particular goes to Jack who's expertise and patience progressed the sale and bought it to a speedy conclusion along with Evie for being so professional on the open day. I found Whittaker & Co's new approach to estate agency refreshing and more in tune with what is required in this day and age. I would not hesitate to recommend them or use them again in the future.

Whittaker are hands down the best agent in Harpenden to both sell through and to buy through. The amount of time Ken would spend with us getting to know our needs meant he could add considerable value and insight to when we were looking to purchase a house. In fact they were so good on that side at finding properties and helping us we didn’t even bother seeing properties with other agents as they could not compete on any level. On the sale side they were super proactive, it felt like they really marketed the property more than just putting it on Rightmove. We had a weekend of viewings and got great offers and detailed feedback on every single viewing - Gabe really did a great job on that part. Working with an agent to exchange contracts is an often overlooked service. Ric has been faultless in our dealings, he has kept everything moving and always been positive and responsive when we asked him to help us. Both my partner and I do customer facing jobs and sometimes have unrealistic expectations on the level of service we can expect from others. It’s been a long journey to get to exchange but we know of all the agents in Harpenden Whittaker’s has the greatest tenacity in securing a sale. Gabe is a fantastic and personable and his warm manner helped us to secure asking price offers each and every time our sale fell through and he did so with little effort and time. It is daunting to now face the prospect of securing our onward purchase but with the unparalleled local connections and responsiveness (the team work all hours and are not your finish at 4.30pm and shut up shop type of establishment), we’re in capable and willing hands. Ken has shown us a greater selection of premium houses than any other agent in Harpenden and so we’re confident and hopeful we’ll find our dream home soon. UPDATED REVIEW Our faith in Ken was well founded as soon after we exchanged on our sale, Ken found us our dream home in our dream location. Ric was in charge of our purchase process and I just want to convey our sincere gratitude for his patience and perseverance in getting us through to exchange dealing with two very different sets of clients along the way! He have been kind, reassuring and calm throughout despite our growing nervousness as the delays kept coming. I suspect Ric’s handling of the situation has in no small part encouraged our vendors along and kept us sane as we have tried to manage the knock on implications. We can now breathe and let our kids know where our forever home will be which thanks to Ken we are sure we would never have found and we were loathe to let the opportunity pass us by. L’s proactive chasing throughout has been brilliant too and of course Gabe has been a friendly observer keeping me in good spirits every time I call the office to hound you again. In all seriousness it’s wonderful to know we now have our dream home and can make of it a future for our children to grow up in, the very bubble of Harpenden our hearts have desired for so long! A little late, but we felt it important to acknowledge a team that worked very hard for us. We sold our house through Whittaker’s last year. They were very challenging times, with both the constraints of Covid and the frenzy caused by the stamp duty holiday deadlines. However despite all this, Ken and the team were great and our house was sold in record time. The team communicated well and went out of their way to make sure all parties were kept informed and in the loop at all times. We recommend them highly.

We could not be happier with the service provided by Whittakers. We had a house in Harpenden and wanted to move locally. Our belief that Ken and Ric and the team really know this market was confirmed by our experience. We started the process in May 2021 and, with no stress, moved in September. Something a bit special was the way that Whittaker’s quietly and professionally seemed to facilitate a good relationship between us and our purchaser, and with the people we were buying from. Would recommend over and over! Harpenden has been my home for over 50 years. I have bought and sold over five times in the last twenty years and always ended up using Ken and his team. Using an independent agent for us has been key. They know the market because they know the town and surrounding villages like the back of their hands. This doesn’t mean we haven’t gone to other agents, we have and got valuations but always gone back to Ken and his team. Without a doubt our last experience was made far less stressful as we sold through Whittaker’s and bought through Whittaker’s. Our house sold over a weekend whereas other agents worried we may take a while (and they valued at more than 15% less!). During the sale / purchase, whenever we called the office for an update, who ever we spoke to could either help (they always knew the minimum of who we were, our property and the one we were buying) or passed on an accurate message, which was responded to very quickly. Even though we know how incredibly busy they are as an agent, we still felt very important to them. And finally, Whittaker's are honest and good to their word.
