I can not thank Whittakers enough for all their help in selling my inherited home. After a stressful few years we decided to move away from the area, and Ken and Ric priced the house just right. They worked hard to get us a buyer for our property & also to get the property that we wanted to purchase. Whittaker was the 4th valuation we did for our property. Mark valued our property over one hundred grand less than the other 3 (and another since) estate agents. Which is obviously ridiculous. Either Mark has absolutely no idea what he is doing, or he did not want to sell our house and was deliberately putting us off. Either way- terrible service, so I would strongly recommend you use a more reliable and reputable estate agents to sell your property, unless you want to lose out on huge amounts of money.

I’ve had experiance with most of the estate agents in the area over the years and Whittakers have been the best by far. I love their direct, realistic and no nonsense approach. They dealt with a tricky sale and house purchase and I couldn't recommend them enough. There was never a hard sell, just facts and their honest opinion on the market. There were no games with over valuation to get your business and they negotiated well for all parties involved.

This was a probate sale. My knowledge of the property market in Harpenden was limited and out-of-date. Whittaker’s (Ric Merlo) was one of 3 agents that valued the property for probate in August 2022. Ric’s figure was 20% higher than the others, but one of my local contacts said ‘If Whittaker says he can get you that figure, he’ll get it’. I obtained probate in Feb 2023 and called back the agents to re-pitch, knowing that the market had changed for the worse since the previous summer. Ric was the only agent who stood by his original figure; the others were increasingly cautious. The deciding factor was Ric recommending that to get the figure that he proposed, some time and a modest sum had to be spent on fixing some basic flaws with the property before it went to market. None of the other agents made this recommendation, but it was the right call. Within 10 days of the property coming to market we had 8 offers, including 6 at or above the guide price, and a week later we accepted an offer that was the best compromise between price and the buyer’s readiness to move forward. Whittaker’s have been attentive and responsive during the nerve-racking period between offer acceptance and completion. I thoroughly recommend their service.
