Seymour’s have been great

Seymour’s have been very patient with us as we have touched base every few years to check out the local market. On finally finding a house we loved they helped sell our house within two days at asking price. Super friendly, easy to chat to and nice that they are local and know the area very well.

Thanks Kate. We've been in West Byfleet for 30 years or so and really feel a part of the neighborhood. Thanks for using us and if we can help with anything else, just shout!

Great experience with the sale of 2 properties this year. Both were completed quickly with good efficient buyers.

Could have been less stressful

Buying and selling properties is undoubtedly stressful. I found the initial meeting very friendly and positive. In retrospect, I think the price set was too high and I should have improved the bungalow before putting it on the market. I think the fact ‘it needed a lot of work’ led to loss of potential buyers and the drop in price needed to sell 7/8 months later was much greater than the amount of money required to upgrade. I guess we all hoped for a quick sale.Seymour’s undoubtedly worked hard to show many potential buyers the property for which I’m grateful.Once a buyer’s offer had been accepted there were many queries and I was not reassured that as a result of further surveys etc that the buyer was committed until out of the blue they wanted to complete the sale within the week. Exchange or completion dates hadn’t been discussed. Maybe a solicitor issue. However I felt forced to accept an early completion date which made things very difficult to arrange clearing and cleaning of the house and garden. We managed to do this working around the clock and I handed the keys in to Seymours and was met with frankly a disappointingly under whelming response. I thought estate agents usually made completion date a special occasion with flowers etc for the parties concerned! Clearly I am out of date.

Agent replied · 22 October 2024

Thanks for the review Alison. Whilst we try to make every property journey as pleasurable as possible, there are always bumps in the road, many of which are out of our control. Nonetheless, every completion is a success despite how hard it may have been to get there and that alone should be a celebration for all parties. Without such reviews we would never know the areas we need to improve on, so again, thank you for sharing with us, and we apologise for the disappointing completion.

Would 100% recommend

Fantastic experience start to finish. 3 months from viewing to completion thanks to fast acting staff which surpassed all expectations. Incredibly helpful and quick with emails - responding to all of my (many, and potentially silly) questions as a first time buyer. Constantly checking in to make sure everything was going smoothly, and following up quickly on enquiries.

Deceived by Seymours to proceed with purchase

Seymours tricked us with the completion date for purchasing a property, never-ending chains, etc. When we were about to pull out due to delays, they told us we would be able to store our belongings at the new property's garage the day before completion. The person who said to have arranged this (I have it written on emails) is now on annual leave and we've found ourselves stuck in the street with our belongings. No words to describe the unprofessionalism, let alone the integrity of these Seymours people.

Poor communication. Emails not responded to. Most times an automated message says they can't take your call. A lack of updates regarding buying. They need to up their game or loose customers.

Terrible Experience as a buyer

We have just pulled out of a house purchase and a large part of that was due to the incompetence of Seymours. Never told the sellers of any of our appointments to visit the house which caused so many delays, the solicitors they recommended we even more hassle to work with, any time we rang Seymours to discuss something they had no idea who we were even though we were speaking with them frequently, their manner came across as very lazy and uncaring. Im not sure what they were getting their commission for. When we pulled out they pushed the blame to us but and took no responsibility, if we had done the purchase through better agents we would probably be in the house now. Such a terrible experience and we feel so bad for the sellers as it could have been such a different story.

ER · 21 June 2023

Agent replied · 22 October 2024

Hello ER. Thanks for sharing your experience, and apologies that it's not met your or our expectations. Could you let us know which office you've been dealing with so we can look into the matter further please? At Seymours, we work very hard on all elements of communication, be they with buyers, sellers and importantly the solicitors not just acting for you but the entire chain if there is one.

BEWARE THESE FRAUDSTERS!

I rented a property from Seymours recently and when I moved out they tried the classic tactic of falsifying/ exaggerating damages in order to profit. Mark on the worktop? Replace the entire worktop.Mark on the floor? Replace the entire floor. They tried to charge me for a replacement hallway bulb that stopped working shortly after I moved in. They even had the audacity to try and charge me for the entire place to be repainted even though it needed a coat of paint when I moved in! They honestly think that if they press you enough to pay their ridiculous 'damage' fees that you'll simply give in and pay due to ignorance or them threatening you. They think they can refurbish entire properties and bill tenants for the privilege, absolutely shocking behaviour. I've made a complaint about them and sent my evidence to the deposit holding company. If you're in the same situation, email me at seymoursarecriminals at protonmail.com and I'll happily pass on the evidence I have of them lying.

Frustrating experience as a buyer

As a buyer, Seymours were difficult to deal with. They didn't show up for appointments we'd booked, and we got bounced around different points of contact, making it hard to get updates. Then when we did find a house with them, we were harassed for updates on an almost daily basis, despite it being their clients, the sellers, that were holding things up. Their various branches do not communicate with each other, as we were still getting bombarded by other branches with details about other houses after we had found ours - most of which did not meet our requirements in the slightest. It all felt quite unprofessional and frustrating, unfortunately.

House Sale in Guildford

We sold our house in Guildford through Seymours. We had a couple of roadbumps along the way however at each stage we were given practical and sound advice by engaged and enthusiastic staff. The sales progression team especially stood out for us, actively managing the legal progression and getting us to a completion date with no problems.

Sadly another disappointed landlord as well as tenants. Their communication via email is poor or non existent. They do not carry out the instructions which were agreed for letting a property and clearly their knowledge in legalities is not all it should be. Would not recommend this company at all sadly after thinking we would use them to sell my flat. One very cross Landlord.

A 12 year relationship

We worked with Seymours for over 10 years while renting our apartment, during which time they provided contract advice and assiduously collected our rent. When finalising our last tenancy (12 years) there was a slight glitch in the final reconciliation of accounts that was easily resolved because we had kept meticulous records. Susequently, Seymours found a buyer for our apartment, although their rcommended selling price for the property was somewhat above what was finally achieved. Maybe market changes got in the way!

Sharp practice or incompetence - I wonder which?

If you are a seller please be wary of these agents. We were excellent buyers downsizing, not requiring a mortgage and with no chain beyond the people buying our house who wanted a quick move.We had viewed several houses with Seymours before seeing one online with their W Byfleet office that we liked the look of and in the exact area we wanted. When we contacted them we were told by a senior partner it had been completely withdrawn from the market - so we couldn’t view it - and we then discovered a short while later that it had gone ‘under offer’ to someone else. Frustrating when we weren’t even given the opportunity to view it and the vendor was never told someone else was very interested in their property. In other words Seymours were not acting in the vendors’ interest. I’m afraid this is common practice by agents who may for example, have ‘preferred buyers’ who are also selling with them or friendly developers as ‘favoured’ buyers. If you are a seller please find agents who will act ‘solely’ for you and not in their own interests. This has happened to us several times over the years when buying previously and I’m afraid there are too many agents out there willing to indulge in this type of sharp practice. If an agent behaves improperly and you cannot get redress, please be aware that it is always open to you to complain to Propertymark (who Seymours are a member of) or ultimately to the Ombudsman.

Alice · 17 March 2023

Agent replied · 22 October 2024

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and believe we have spoken to you about the circumstances in person. After taking the property on the market to sell, the family informed us that they wouldn't be moving which is why all future viewings would be ceased, this wasn't a tactic or underhand practice as the owners made the decision not to move. The property was eventually sold off market to a buyer who insisted they wanted to pay a price significantly higher than the property was previously advertised for. Again, we're grateful for the feedback and wish you every success with your move.

Excellent, Professional Service

I bought and sold my property in Guildford from Seymour's, with a 20 year gap in between! They gave me a realistic valuation and I subsequently accepted a fair offer. The management and staff were great; I received a weekly update and they acted with urgency on my queries and instructions. The office is in a convenient location in the centre of Guildford. Highly recommended.

Wideboys and badly organized…

I found Seymours to be badly organized with endless mistakes, information lost, billing mistakes and staff with a bad attitude etc but worst of all is that I came to feel the people I was dealing with there were completely dishonest and fitted the untrustworthy "Estate Agent" stereotype exactly. Once you have been overcharged, misled, lied to then fobbed off by a wide boy "Director" who lies through his teeth and has a smart-alec answer for everything you come to realize what you are dealing with and that you have made a very serious mistake putting your trust in these people. It is a horrible realization. Wouldn't ever deal with these people again.

Great and strong understanding of the brief of our sales

When I first was looking for an estate agent, I called on 3 different companies. Seymours estate agents stood out straight away.First , the staff are so professional but they will also tell you things as they are.Second , their knowledge of the property market is second to none.Third, the marketing for the house was of a high quality and the photographer who came was reassuring and knew how to guide us , how to show the different rooms to their best appeal, he was patient and showing us the different pictures as he was taking them.Fourth , the premises of their offices are so reassuring , inviting, clean and they have a feel of slight luxury witch to me was reassuringOliver was the only one out of the 3 companies who understood the brief , the stressfulness of the situation. All the way through out the process , they were in contact with me, encouraging me , reassuring me, and even at the end of the process went out of their way , and the extra miles to conclude the sale. I definitely recommend them 200%
