It appears I’m not the only one that…

It appears I’m not the only one that has had a terrible experience with this company!Avoid using them for student accommodation please! I entrusted them with my daughters Uni accommodation last year in Brighton. They refused to deal with health and safety issues so sadly my daughter felt she could no longer stay at Uni so she left in April. Just had an email claiming over 2k damage from the 3.5k deposit will be retained. So even though my daughter left early and was the one to report the behaviour that was causing the issues, she’s been equally apportioned in costs. Beware. You will be charged for not cleaning or weeding the garden, not dusting the skirting boards or sweeping the front step, the fire alarm overheating, any stains including mattress stains and basically anything and everything. Please take heed. Don’t use this company for Uni accommodation. I’m currently talking to a deposit lawyer so we’ll see.

Lying, useless and money grabbing

I rented a flat through Martin and Co, in Birmingham, we contacted them multiple times through our time in the flat and never got any useful advice or help. They would book viewings in without telling us, so we had multiple strangers just walk into the flat!! And now we are in dispute for our deposit which they are refusing to hand over saying it "isn't on them". They have tried to charge us for numerous expenses, such as a dishwasher clean, the dishwasher was never even opened since we were there! When asking for proof of the long list of items we had to pay for they sent photos of clean items! Even they couldn't tell us why it needed cleaning and then just said it 'wasn't their problem'. They would then not reply for days when trying to resolve the deposit issue and lie saying they already replied and fail to show any proof. Hopefully we can get some answers soon. Avoid at all costs.

Poor service with unfortunate attitude agaist landlords. Martin and Co , Brighton written as a landlord.The Brighton branch of Martin and Co not only have hit a new low in service, have introduced tenants they claim as extemporary only to find on exit that these tennants have caused extensive damage to appartment and inventory but Martin and Co interim inspections tells us "everything is fine" when its not. Issues with Martin and Co , Brighton.- Tennants clearly breaking tenancy agreement but no issues raised by Martin and Co.- communication is poor it takes ages to get a response and they act withiout checking all facts - exit inventory reports are so poor and incomplete with critical damage not listed that leaves landlord massively financially exposed- cleaning services supplied thru Martion and Co are poor, having to ask cleaners to come back multiple times but results still poor.- if you complain Martin and Co instead of dealing with the issues with tennant and thier suppliers they critisise you as an unreasonable landlord for raising complaints. - staff have an attitude and dont want to deal with issuesOver the past 4 years trhe service that Martin and Co, Brighton supply costs you more in damage and losses, your better looking for a company that actually cares.

Utterly appalling…..

Utterly appalling at the Cambridge branch.Property with significant structural issues and in a poor state of disrepair and decoration. Landlord abroad and not being managed effectively on their behalf or the tenants. Just a conveyer of continual new tenants and no funding spent to keep it habitable and in good order. The maintenance company is abysmal turning up with no replacement parts and without adequate knowledge to repair anything. Check in and check out process also a sham, trying to be charged for oil that wasn’t there on arrival. Worst experience of a rental. We are thankful we never have to rent again. Please steer clear. If not, keep evidence of everything, as you will need it.

We viewed a house to rent with Martin & Co on a Wednesday, and by Thursday the next week our references had been approved and we had been given a moving in date! Amazing service from them, no problems at all. The gentleman who showed us around the property was polite and gave us all the information we needed to make a decision, he was honest about the property and answered all our questions. They were always quick to respond to any emails that I sent, getting a quick reply was so helpful! Would recommend to anyone looking to rent.

Liam and Emily have been instrumental at helping me through the process of finding a place to rent in Penryn. Nothing has been too much hassle or too much bother. Please stop using Martin and Co

I was a tenant with Martin & Co. I gave notice in July and started moving my stuff out with my tenancy ending 20 August 2023. Since I did not stay at the property from 20th July, I came back on 1st of August to attend my inspection to find out the viewing agents left my windows open and all my lights on, which was left on for a week. When I made a complaint I got a call saying that the viewing agent was new and very sorry. I told them I am not paying a week's electricity due to their neglegence. I was told that the complaints manager will speak to a director to see what can be done. Their response was that the agent denied that she left it open and that I had no evidence. Their investigation showed I did not have a claim. The dishonesty here on director and employee level is appalling and unprofessional. They never requested my evidence for their investigation and after I said but I have train tickets to prove I was not even in Birmingham that whole week due to work related travel, now all of a sudden I need to send them the evidence. I ask all Landlords to please not use them. If they can be this corrupt with tenants, just imagine how deceitful they are to you, the owner of the property.

AVOID Rochdale Martin and Co. branch at all costs! I tried to rent a property through their office, and they said that I needed to first pass their financial check before they could proceed. They use Rightmove for their client checks, and they said that they had contacted Rightmove, and would let me know the result. They refused to even let me view a rental property until this was complete, even though I drove 4 hours to Rochdale to find a place to rent. And it's now almost than a month later and they still haven't responded to me. The property I was interested in has since been let to others...The staff were impolite and short tempered with me, as though I was wasting their time. I have never had such a bad experience with a letting agent before. Their office isn't even open to visit without a prior appointment. TERRIBLE!

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. I recently rented a Martins and Co property for two years (two one year fixed terms). Never really had anything go wrong the first year so could not comment on their services.However, second year had incompetent workmen damage a washing machine whilst fitting it which one first use flooded the property. Then, when attempting to get my deposit back from Martins and Co. They attempted to gain compensation for a worn sofa and then proceeded to lie and say the damage was caused by a lack of a cover, which I provided photographic proof of a cover constantly on in various months of my tenancy.Moreover, they charge extortionate amounts for pedantic levels of cleaning (dust on one cupboard handle), one eyelash size hair found in the sinkRather than respond to my original emails questioning the decisions they sent auto response emails saying that my email did not meet the criteria to warrant a reply. I have rented from numerous companies across Nottingham as have my partner, both student and non student accommodation and they are by far the worst I have encountered. AVOID

Very unprofessional team

Be wary of their very unprofessional team. You will pay your rent, and they wouldn't inform your landlord and keep putting pressure on you to pay additional rent, and when you insist on verifications, they tell you their system failed to pick rents you paid. You run in problems as you are reported as owing several months of rentBe ready to receive threats from their unprofessional staff on issues they should think carefully before approaching you. I reckon it you get it worse when they sense that you are racially different from them.

Martins & Co team...improvement needed

Martins & Co team especially Rob, always ready to help and quite flexible. A professional guy with patience. However I will score them less due to the fact that they literally make you figure out the apartment and associated services yourself. I think one of their staff(the lady at the door) can make do with some politeness.
