I'd previously dealt with Forsyth's in Haddington and decided to engage McDougall McQueen, when they took over that practice, to handle the conveyancing for the purchase and sale of two properties in Gullane and also the updating on our wills. The conveyancing expertise, guidance and advice given by Bobby Fife and Elizabeth MacNab played a key part in allowing us to successfully complete both the house purchase and sale transactions. We received a similarly excellent level of service and support from Bethany Rafferty in the handling of our wills. Therefore, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend McDougall McQueen to anyone requiring legal advice in East Lothian.

We had a complicated sale process with the seller passing away three weeks before the sale completed. Susan went above and beyond to get us into the property showing empathy throughout. I recommend Susan. AML processes felt a bit over the top, and I feel should be more appropriate to the level for risk we present. We are not money launderers! But they had systems which attempted to make these easier.

I had the pleasure of working with Andrea and Shannon on the sale of my flat in Edinburgh, and they made the entire process seamless! Andrea was incredibly helpful with the selling and marketing, keeping me well informed every step of the way, which was a huge relief, especially since I was also planning my wedding at the time. Thanks to her, I felt far less stressed than I expected(for a bride to be with wedding planning). Shannon was my solicitor, she provided clear instructions throughout the process, so I always knew exactly what to sign and what to do at each stage. The process started very poorly. After contacting them in September about purchasing a new build, things were smooth initially and I was told on 24th October that my case would be passed to the conveyancing team and they’d be in touch within 7, 14 days. Unfortunately, I didn’t hear anything for over a month. Multiple calls resulted in promises of callbacks that never came, which was very frustrating during such a stressful process. However, once the case was eventually picked up, the service improved significantly. Communication became much clearer and the team were helpful and responsive - Rhona in particular was absolutely fantastic, went a long way to patch up the terrible start, and is the reason I am amending this review.

The estate agent, Sylvia Kuzminski, was excellent and I received an offer on my house within just a few days. The conveyancing on both my sale and onward purchase was handled by Susan Oates, who was just amazing throughout. She was professional and efficient, moving the process along and chasing up the other solicitors to minimise delays. She kept me in the loop every step of the way so I was never left wondering what was happening. Susan was also just lovely and kind - she explained things very clearly and provided reassurance whenever I felt worried about how things were progressing. My experience of using McDougal McQueen to market our flat, deal with the sale negotiations and complete the legal process has, I can honestly say, been stress free and from start to finish. From our first interaction with Angela, we felt confident with the firm. When things moved on to Caroline to deal with viewings, offers and ultimate sale we were very grateful for her detailed knowledge of the market and her sound advice. Importantly she always stayed in touch throughout the process. We also selected the firm to act as our solicitors and Bobby made the process the very straightforward and stress free and wrapped things up in a very timely manner!
