I've read some of the other reviews but I've only ever had positive experiences so far. It's been really difficult to find somewhere to rent because as soon as something comes up it's gone the next day. The team have answered my queries promptly and they have always returned my calls even on occasions when I know that they are short staffed. I have full faith that Stuart and the team will do me proud soon!

Excellent service on sales and lettings but a few hiccups on holiday lettings in 2022. Staff seemed to change and communication wasn't great. However once Arron was in post things got sorted well. He's a very reliable staff member. Stuart on the sales side worked hard to resolve issues and see the sale through with good humour and efficiency. Thank you Red House (Elspie and Ian) for a positive relationship over the years!!

Takes the biscuit! It's a shame that an estate agent don't care about tenants. We had a generally smooth transition moving to our home, and all seemed perfect. However in the period of the covid-19 pandemic Redhouse estate agents in Portland have been terrible with communication through emails. On a yearly basis there is a legal requirement for the agency to do property checks, we accept but only when we are present. So let me make this clear, you have the right to arrange an appropriate date and time for your home to be inspected. However, if you do not relpy to email, the inspection will go ahead. Simple isn't it? Well not really! Redhouse last year 2020 had arranged for an inspection of the property we reside in. We had replied and rearranged a date for a Tuesday, stating I'm always home on this day. We had a reply from another colleague at Redhouse saying they will rechedule the visit. My wife being sceptical about this inspection, we decided to adopted a low key security measure, to tell if anyone had gained access to our rented home without us knowing. At the end of day returning home from work we had noticed undoubtedly this measure had been compromised. The next day I called Redhouse and asked if the viewing had taken place. Spoke with a chap who confirmed it indeed did. I was fuming, not because they had gone ahead, but they disregarded but agreed to arrange a new date, as we wanted to be present. He denied ever seeing the email and stated the inspection will go ahead if they do not receive confirmation or to rearrange a more appropriate date and time at the time email was sent. Calmly but also angry inside, I told him I have a returned email from his colleague saying they will rearrange a new date for inspection. Chap on the phone became flustered saying 'are you calling me a liar. 'YES' I replied. He hung up! I then called again saying he was unacceptable and rude and very unprofessional. All he could do was stammer his words and get flustered on the phone as I made a complaint. Nothing was ever done nor did we get an apology. It happened for a second time in Nov 2021. Emails was exchanged, calls was made to arrange inspection, but had to be cancelled due to being positive for coronavirus. A few days later, I was still at home self isolating. And I was sceptical again and convinced someone was still going to arrive for inspection. I heard knock on the door, and I waited and watched as this person tried to gain entry. He knocked the door, letterbox and tried the door handle. Then he fumbled in his back for a few minutes as I watched through the glassed door at a distance, but couldn't see me. After the second attempt with a key I appeared at the door, shouting, who are you? How dare you break in! He knocked the door. I then opened the door slightly and angrily announced, we sent an email, I have coronavirus. He jumped back and left after apologising. My wife complained. Again emails and different colleagues at Redhouse got involved and some denied cancellation due to covid. A female colleague admitted saying she didnt understand why this happened. My wife kindly pointed out, if one person dealt with a tenant at one time, instead of others getting involved, these mistakes won't happen. Officially we made a complaint to never get an apology from the proprietor of Redhouse, nor for the mistakes made on there behalf. If this happens again our complaint and evidence will be forwarded to the local complaints commission and hopefully put them under review. Also Elspie is one unacceptable person with a poor attitude to others and has no people skills. Directly rude, never except responsibility for poor management and blames it on others to easily. Log all forms of contact if you decide to use Redhouse Estate agents on Portland, as there are two many fingers in the pie and no one person deals with tenants throughout and mistakes are easily made, as no one communicates effectively. I've never known such a poorly managed Estate agency.NegativeProfessionalism

Shame I couldn’t give them 0 stars so , Where do I start… absolutely disgusting attitude , no customer service at all and I have to say Elspie has to be the most rudest person I have ever come across in my life! They treat you like your nothing! They don’t deserve a business!!! Had endless problems with my property, boiler breaking 5 times in 2 years and basically kept bodging it back together, mould in all top bedrooms and was left without a working boiler for nearly 2 weeks over the Xmas period, no care in the world for their tenants! Every 3 months they view the property, sometimes un announced . Absolutely disgusting communication and no reply to emails or calls. Last of all they took most of our deposit from us when we left , false information saying we owed them rent , even there statement was incorrect. I have to say I wouldn’t even let these people own a dog never mind a estate agent! There an embarrassment to the local community as a business! To be honest the list goes on …. Avoid at all costs!!!!

This morning we received a decision from an independent adjudicator regarding the disputed deposit. I am very sorry you do not agree with the decision. When a dispute over a deposit goes to adjudication as part of alternative dispute resolution, each side has the opportunity to present evidence, this could be evidence of rental payments made or regarding the property condition and dilapidations. Both tenants and landlords are required to abide by this binding decision. I am sorry you feel disgruntled and I would be happy to discuss this decision with you further if you would like to contact me.

Our experience with Red House started off well, they did everything they could to help us find a rental property and I was so thankful to them. Once we were in, that’s when all the problems started. Extremely poor customer service, slow to respond, unsympathetic, rude, untrustworthy and above all else, clearly favoured the landlord above the tenants. This made us feel powerless and belittled. Despite only being in the property for 3 months and professionally cleaning it, they took £300 off the deposit. I’m so thankful to (hopefully) never have to deal with them again, as the experience of dealing with them was so anxiety provoking. Would never recommend to a potential landlord, tenant, buyer or seller.

I am sorry you feel this way. It is the landlord who makes a decision about repairs and deposits, not the agent. There is the opportunity for alternative dispute resolution under the Tenancy Deposit Scheme if you do not agree with a request for deposit retention.

I rented from this agency in 2011 and I am still very bitter about their awful service and terrible treatment of myself and friends. The agency used to arrive at the house unannounced whenever they liked and call us while at work to announce that they had entered the property (unlawfully) and then proceed to complain that it was not clean, or that something needed servicing, or to decorate. If you are looking to rent in this area, avoid this estate agent.

I am really sorry that you had a poor experience 11 years ago. We have had new staff more recently and customer service is a priority for us. if you could contact me personally I am keen to know what has prompted your review now, all these years after you dealt with us.

Awful company to rent from. Rented with them for 4 years and was glad to be rid. They would blame every problem on you and were very rude on the phone and in person. The manager had no people skills and countless times we were lied to and told would be called back but never were . We ended up living in a mould infested house as they were trying to blame the issues on us and just give us leaflets stating how it’s not the property it’s the tenants ... When we went to move out they tried to make us pay for things that were on the inventory before we moved in. Would never recommend to anyone I know !!

Agent replied · 11 June 2024

Dear Sophie Brown, Thank you for your review, I am sorry you feel this way. I personally visited the property after you left and I do not recall it being mould infested. It was re-decorated shortly before you moved in and was generally in good condition with some small signs of condensation. We act on the landlord's instructions and it is not always fair to defame the agent on social media. It is normal for agents to give tenants information on how to reduce condensation through adequate heating and ventilation and this does not mean an agent is 'blaming' the tenant. Please contact me privately if you wish to discuss this further. Kind regards, Ian Munro-Price

Reading all these reviews just confirms we are not the only ones to experience the horrific behaviour of Red House Estate Agents. They currently manage the apartment above us for Blacknoll Limited ( has the attitude of, " if they pay the rent, they can do what they like!") and for the past 3 years we have dealt with noise disturbances, vandalism, anti-social behaviour, threatening and abusive behaviour from their tenants. Most of the time we get ignored when complaining about these issues but when we do speak with someone from Red House, we are met with arrogance, abuse and indifference. Both Elspie and Ian verbally attacked my partner on the phone, Stuart regularly laughs at the situation and the lettings department (seemingly run to the ground by Caroline) refuse to take any responsibility for their tenants behaviour. They have new staff every month and we are constantly lied to! As everyone says, AVOID!!!!

O isnt low enough they are absolutely disgraceful especially elspie they are lowest of the low they don't care about the tenants, landlords or properties only money, when viewing a disgusting flat the man sat on the kitchen counter swinging his legs doing nothing when asked any questions just responded dont know not sure. it took them 1 year to have a safety lach fitted in our children's bedroom as it opened fully inwards so was unsafe and a hazard there bedroom was filled with mold and damp that caused our daughter to be hospitalised 3 times even being given letters by doctors to get it sorted but they didn't. moved into broken windows unable to be opened unclean property never coming to fix anything, always extremely rude and talk down to you had a rotting decking that was falling apart a shower that rained through the ceiling into the kitchen twice a broken boiler in December leaving no heating or hot water with 2 young children and was told they could provide 1 heater when asked how I bath my children with no hot water I was informed I could put the heater in the water. never have I had to deal with such disgusting people in my life there a disgraceful company ran by a horrible person I wouldn't wish dealing with them on anyone absolutely disgusting excuse for an estate agents

After a very emotional time in my life, I finally feel settled. Stuart listened to my needs and found me the perfect property to buy and call my home. I had other agents out to value my property and I could tell by his enthusiasm and professionalism I certainly made the right decision in instructing Red House to sale my property. A smooth and wonderful all round service covered all my needs. Well done Stuart, and also Elspie and Ian for running a tight ship.

I have rented through these guys for 5 years. They are really on top of gas safety checks. I cancelled the last one due to being in isolation. But they booked it in as soon as they could after I was out of isolation. My boiler was leaking carbon monoxide. It was condemned by gas safety engineer, it was nobodies fault. Just one of those things. The letting agents told him to go straight ahead with fixing it and we had hot water and heating and more importantly, a safe working boiler within 3 hours. If they hadn't been so hot on gas safety testing I dread to think what would have happened.

Me and my partner sought our first flat together and went through red house. Any questions we had they had a quick answer for and any queries were quickly dismayed. Tom especially was an amazing hand with the entire process, saving us a lot of stress and worry.

Really good experience, I spoke to a young chap who was very on the ball. Although he couldn't help me he was very outgoing and provided me with some very helpful information. I've been palmed off from many agents but he was speaking to me for atleast 10 minutes and made me feel important even know i was no benefit to the business. Very professional & funny too.
