We recently bought our first home through John German and I couldn’t rate their professionalism and helpfulness more highly. We were able to have several viewings after having our offer accepted, so that we could show our parents and have a final check round before we exchanged. They also gave access to our carpet fitter, so he could measure up before we moved in. Gemma, showed us round on our first viewing and was so lovely, so we were really pleased to see she was in the office when we picked the keys up! Vicky was the main person I spoke with during the buying process, she was incredibly patient, warm and kind. Especially as this was our first purchase, so everything felt quite overwhelming. She really reassured us and was excellent at chasing our seller and their solicitors. I don’t think we’ll ever sell our house as we hope it’s our forever home, but if we were to in the future, we’d definitely use them!

I was very disappointed with this letting estate agent for three main reasons. First, we signed a compulsory 10-week sole agency agreement, meaning I couldn’t instruct another agent even when they failed to find a tenant. After 2,5 months when I asked to appoint a second company as I urgently needed the flat rented, they refused to be flexible, and we had to terminate the contract. Second, when my new agent collected the keys (door fobs, two sets of keys and a postal box key that I personally paid for and delivered), they handed over only one key and refused to acknowledge the others, completely ignoring my messages (thanks Beth) Finally, an important repair appointment with the developer was cancelled the night before. I had driven overnight to attend. Given the ongoing issues, the lack of communication and consideration was extremely disappointing.

Couldn’t rate the team at Derby any higher. Right from Alex coming to value our house there was no pressure to sell with them which we liked. Once we had our house on the market Gemma, Flo and Lisa kept us informed of viewings. Alex even rang us after a couple of weeks to see if we were happy with how things were progressing and whether we’d like to make any changes. Vicky is now handling our file to progress the sale and she is also keeping us informed at each stage, she’s even tried to help when we’ve had issues with the agent we’re buying through. Having now had experience with other agents in the area whilst looking for a house to buy it proves that John German offer a superior service. We have found the team go above and beyond to help you. We couldn’t be happier with our choice of agent and have been recommending them to friends.

The sales side was handled excellently but our review is to thank Ian for all the hard work and effort he put into progressing our sale during the last few weeks of the process. Although some claim it doesn't matter which agent you use as long as you're on Rightmove, the team at John German Derby blew me away at every step of the sale process, delivering real value and getting a great price and speedy sale. From the outset, their experienced Senior Valuer, Alex, shared expert local market insights (not just the usual blah blah blah blurb printed off Rightmove) and took time to give really detailed advice on how best to prepare and present the property for sale. Once preparations were complete, she returned to take photos and create a virtual tour - both of which were to a very high standard. I was somewhat sceptical about the virtual tour beforehand, but it turned out to be a real game-changer, with prospective buyers saying they'd already had a good look round when coming for a 'physical' viewing! This is something not many agents offer (certainly not as standard) and I believe a real differentiator for John German - they should probably make more of a fuss about it. Once the house went on the market, Lisa, Flo and Gemma in the Derby office called potential clients already on their books and arranged several viewings. Thereafter, the service and communication with the sales team was great, and it didn't matter who you spoke to, they always knew exactly what was happening and got on with stuff in a friendly way. Once we found a buyer, there was a handover to Vicky, our dedicated Sales Progressor, who was also absolutely brilliant! She was always proactively keeping things moving, providing concise updates and handling all the little details which made for a smooth, speedy and successful completion. They're undoubtedly not the cheapest agent and don't have shops on every corner like some, but if you want expert market knowledge and advice, proactive and personal service from a small tight-knit team, high-quality photography, an awesome virtual tour, great communication and truly brilliant sales progression, then I'd highly recommend John German, and as the most demanding and unforgiving person I know, that's praise indeed!

We didn’t sell with John German but dealt with them in purchasing a property. From the moment we enquired the staff were very attentive. They work with their ‘clients best interest’ and when the chain fell through they were acting in our sellers best interest which showed how dedicated they were, whilst trying to manage disappointed buyers. The post sale support was brilliant. Communication channels were open and again very attentive with returning calls etc. we won’t be moving any time soon but should we do we would 100% consider using John German as we had such a positive experience!

Highly recommended! Best services. I have recently rented a house through John German, highly satisfied with their professional approach and services they are providing. Their Property file service is very useful. you don't have to make calls to report any maintenance issue, you just have to write and concerned department will respond promptly. Thank you for your response, Tracey. I appreciate your perspective; however, I feel it’s important to clarify a few points. Firstly, regarding the keys: I personally delivered all sets of keys, including door fobs and the postal box key, at my own expense. I have photographic evidence showing they were handed over to your office. It is disappointing that this has not been acknowledged, again. As shown in the attached photo, I am still trying to recover the postal box key, which was left at your office on the same day, 24/10/2025. Regarding the sole agency agreement, I had no issue with the contract initially. However, after 2.5 months with no tenant secured, I informed you that I would be approaching a second agent. This decision was not taken lightly but became necessary due to a loss of confidence in the process. The second agent successfully found a tenant within the second week, which speaks for itself. On the asking price, the property ultimately rented at the amount originally listed, which aligns with the market rate, contrary to the point made in your response. Finally, concerning the developer appointment, I was not informed in advance that attending would require 24 hours’ notice. Even if that had been the case, knowing we were traveling from London, I would have expected a courtesy call or acknowledgment around 5 pm so that alternative arrangements could be made. The lack of communication and consideration in this instance was extremely disappointing. While I acknowledge your efforts with viewings and other activities, these issues highlight why I was unable to continue with your agency. Kind regards,

Where do we start! It’s been the most stressful and emotional journey we have ever been on with the sale of our house. After 5/6 months of waiting around in the middle of a difficult chain, John German helped us get it over the line and to completion. Special thanks for Alex for coming out at short notice to value the house and list it as we had somewhere we wanted to buy. I cannot thank Maddie at Derby/Ashbourne enough for everything she has done for us. Listened to me have meltdown after meltdown and being so very helpful, even helping us out of hours. Even taking ownership of the sale so we had just one port of contact to make things easier: A lot of city centre agents talk the talk and say they’re brilliant but we honestly wouldn’t work with another agent ever again!
